I think I agree with what most people are saying. She probably thought if she sent you a store-bought card you would be insulted that she didn't use one of yours. I personally would be flattered that she thought of you enough to send you a handmade card. (some people, me included sometimes, especially at Xmas) go down the list and figure out "who" gets the handmade card and who gets the store bought card. I know it's rude - but sometimes time is an issue and you just have to make choices!

I have a dear friend who I just rec'd a postcard from. It was one of my cards I made her over 5 years ago and she had cut off the bottom of the card and used the top 1/2 as a postcard. I thought it was very clever!

I give my cards to my kids and MIL and SIL as part of their Christmas gift from me. They have often used them to give back to me on holidays or birthdays. I LOVE it! Sometimes it is sad for me to see the last one of a certain creation leave my posession. Maybe it is because I'm a hoarder at heart. When I receive it back, it is like getting an old friend back! Then I can save it and not feel bad about it! ;-) This year was funny.....for my bday my DH gave me some of those bag clips that I love. Then I opened one of my cards from my oldest daughter. When it came time for my youngest daughter's gift......she said....."Well, it is just a repeat!" First I opened the card....it was the same one the other daughter had picked. Then I opened her gift and part of it was more of the clippies I love! We all had a good laugh!

I'm glad that they use them even if it is to give them back to me. That way I know they had more to spend on other things!

I give my mother cards for her birthday and Christmas but I know she rarely sends them out. She is a hoarder and never gets rid of something that someone gave her as a gift.

That said, she needed to send a thank you card to my MIL and she planned on using one of the cards I gave her. She said it was OK because she was sending a "special card to a special lady."

I have had this happen to me. Normally I don't mind. I take it as a compliment. Like my MIL paid me to make a pack of cards for her MIL's (my DH's grandma) birthday a few years ago. She told her MIL that I had made them. A few months later I got a card from DH's grandma that was one of the ones I made her saying how much she appreciated the effort I went to and how she loves them and sends them to special people. It was very sweet. Now my MIL on the other hand, she had me make her a matching set of cards because she liked the ones I had done for the gift so much. She has sent me, I kid you not, 15 of the 30 cards I did. She told DH that she only sends them to me because she doesn't think anyone else will like them. So why did I go to the trouble of making them if she didn't think anyone else would like them? My MIL is a "special" case though.

I haven't gotten enough cards made to be able to gift blank ones yet- I'm still struggling to get cards made for each occasion on time. But, if I got one of my own back, I'd take it as a compliment.

I've gotten a lot of my cards back. I have made many card sets for friends/family over the years and will often receive one of those cards for my birthday, as a thinking of you card, or as a thank you (for baby/wedding showers when I make them a batch of TY cards). It is a little funny when I say hey, I made that! but I love that my friends are sending cards AND thinking of me so I'm cool with whatever form it takes

I would definitely take it as a compliment. I would rather receive one of my own back than nothing at all.

I received one of my own cards in the mail recently, but I thought it was fun! I never get handmade cards.

This same relative also asked me to make her more for her upcoming birthday, so at least I know she's enjoying the ones I gave her last year!
