Default Glue Issues - Help!

I need some help finding the right glue for card-making. I have found the two-way glue (zig) to be quite good in the past as well as UHU glue sticks when I am making cards but it's been so dry here lately that my cards are falling apart after a day or two. What kind of glue/techniques should I use to make sure my cards stay together? (it's the layers on the card front that are popping off - especially when there are many layers.)

TIA

I use double sided tape or some sort of roll on tape dispenser.
When I need a glue, I typically use Fabric Tac or monoaqua glue

I almost always use double sided tape for my cards. I get the cheap stuff at our local Family Dollar store costs a buck a roll. I also use mono adhesive if it's more than one layer. Pressing down on the two layers to make sure there is good contact also helps.

I'm not sure, as I am also searching for the holy grail of adhesives, but I can tell you not to use a glue stick. I've tried several different brands & it seems that they all eventually lose their hold.

Well, there seems to be a consensus. Glue stick bad (but soooo cheap!) and double-sided tape/roll on adhesive good...Guess I need to find a good source for both (I am in a fairly isolated area as far as stores are concerned - we only got a Michael's last month!!!)

Thanks for the suggestions.

Default glue

Try Viking. It's online and they have some super deals on double sided tape.. I think there is usually a thread that lists the specials... check there before you order and you will save a bundle.

Sadly, Viking does not ship to Canada. Sigh! Thanks anyway. I'm going to try to find an online source that does ship to Canada and see if I can get a good price on a fairly large purchase (I make a lot of cards!)

Default adhesive supplier in Canada

Kelly Bee,

You may want to check out the Scrapbook Cottage at www.scrapbookcottage.ca. I haven't used them myself, but I notice they have free shipping on orders over $100. They are based in Alberta, near Edmonton.

Happy shopping.

You can also use rubber cement. But you have to apply it to both pieces of card stock and let it dry. Then you stick it together for a permenant bond. I only use rubber cement for those heavy duty jobs.

I use either double sided tape or Art Institue's Designer Dries Clear glue. It's the only glue I've ever used without rumpled paper problems from the moisture.

Smile Glue

I have used both mono-adhesive and glue. I prefer the mon-adhesive by far. It keeps everything together better. I go through ton's of it, but at least my cards stay together...........I hope!!!!

I have been using Thermo Web's Memory Tape runner that I found at Walmart and I really like it. There's another brand there that I hate, but Thermo Web is great. And I don't seem to go thru it as fast as some other tapes.

Default Hermafix

I'm a scramper (scrapbooker/stamper) and my very favorite adhesive is hermafix. The dotto dispenser is one of their products I use for very fine pieces where nothing else will work. It's really cool cause it will rub off and is repositionable until you leave it for an extended period of time. However, the refill dots can get expensive after quite a while. My very favorite for sticking layers together is the tab dispenser. It dispenses the little white squares without the blue tabs and if anyone has ever scrapbooked they know that is well worth the price. here is a link so you can look at both I haven't ever ordered from them though http://www.cropaholics.com/page258.html
As far as glue sticks I find that the most common problem I've seen is when people put too much glue on a thin layer works best for most projects. I'm just too impatient to use it on a regular basis. ;)

I cannot use Herma products because I am not smart enough to get the tape refills to go in correctly.. I actually almost threw mine across the rooma nd my husband had to figure it out and fix it for me... I just refuse to touch it,... I know I will have it all screwed up.

Try using the Doto on pg.220 in the catty. It usually does not loose it's stick in the heat.

I use mono adhesive (thanks viking.com!) but I'm also a firm believer in my Xyron. At stamp camp, I'm known as the adhesive hog so the Xyron is great because I get total adhesive coverage. It's really great for layers. It's also great for ribbon. Refills can also get expensive but I just catch them when they're 40% off at Michael's or use the 40% off coupon out of the paper.

I'm in complete agreement with SilverDragoness, I love my Hermafix. I don't have the tab sticker but I do have the glue dot roll. It is so much better than mono adhesive which I have but hate.

I am a big fan of SU's Anywhere gluestick...this from the woman who gave up gluesticks a long time ago. I recently did a make-n-take at an expo, where the demo used "another" brand of gluestick (gasp!)...I came home and the entire top two layers popped off the card...can't do that w/ SU's (at least not in the dry western US). Another real favorite is SU's mini glue dots...they will hold just about anything!

I have a Family Dollar near me and I once looked for this tape, and couldn't find it. Where is it typically located? (I usually buy Scotch permanent double-sided but this would be way cheaper if it's just as good.)

I've had good luck with the Duck brand tape runner at walmart as well as Scrapbook Adhesives tape runner. My mom keeps every card I send her and they live in an RV and travel around the country, so the climate is always changing and so far all the cards have stayed together. HTH

I'm a dollar store tape girl too!!!!!------for the cards why not? Sticks as well as anything else I have used. You do have to search for it sometimes--even if the clerk says they don't have it they often do....

As a follow up, I've started using a combination of UHU glue stick, the something-tec tape runner at my local Wal-Mart and Scotch double-sided tape. I'm trying to keep costs down so I use the glue stick if it's paper-to-paper, double sided tape for mounting cardstock to cardstock and the tape runner for any tricky bits. I don't seem to be having the same problem I had before with the glue stick but I was using Elmers (don't buy it!!!) and the weather is not as humid as it was when I originally started this thread.

Thanks for all the input. It's been very educational.

Double stick tape(scoth) by the single roll, refills at Wal-Mart, staples, Office Depot and Office Max. I just bought a cheap tape dispenser at Wal_mart and use that for the refills. No problems with unsticking here. Linda

I buy glue squares at the Dollar General Store they are only 1.00 for 250 squares and they work great but, they do stick once they are down they are down. They are cheap and work great a wonderful combination. I also use the tape from WalMart and have had little to no trouble with it.
