Does anyone have advice or opinion on using glue sticks instead of monoadhesives? I'm trying to cut costs wherever so I can spend more on SU stamps etc.
Well, I like 'em both! I think the mono is a bit quicker, definitely, but I'm beginning to lean towards the glue stick because it gives me a few seconds to straighten the paper, since I INVARIABLY put it down a bit crooked the first time. Mono doesn't really give me that leeway... I find that when I burnish well, the glue stick holds just as well as the mono.
Mono for me too. Glue sticks are too messy for me. If you lay the paper down without pressing you can pick it back up easily with the Mono if you don't get the position right the first time. I love the convenience of Mono, and with the Viking specials it's pretty inexpensive.
I had problems with layers falling off my cards in the mail when I used glue sticks. I'm so happy my family friends and family told me about it   After that happened, I gave all my glue sticks to the kiddos!

Mine have done the same!!! And some samples I have had have done the same thing after only a couple of months. I use the mono and also scotch double sided tape (cheap at Viking)
I've found that there is definitely a quality difference with various brands of glue sticks. The only brand that seems to hold consistently well in Savannah's humid climate is UHU. I like the purple ones because you can see where you've applied the glue, and then it dries clear.

I prefer the mono adhesive. However, you need to make sure you use enough of that also because I've even had layers fall off with mono. I used to use glue stick a lot in the "beginning" but really never use them anymore. I did find that if you make cards and keep them for awhile until an occasion arises then things would fall off and it is pretty messy too.
But everyone has there own likes and dislikes.
I don't care for glue sticks either. The only brand that I would consider using is Duck brand. I will stick with my mono anyday.. quicker, easier, less messier.
I actually read not too long ago that the SNAIL is listed as "initially repositionable."
This didn't used to be true.
Remember how there were complaints about the mono not sticking the way it used to? This was maybe last summer. Well - perhaps part of the change they made was to make it less sticky. You know how it was always gumming up the applicator?
Anyway, I got past the lesser stickiness by pressing down when I put things together now (didn't used to). Also, you can't layer anything under - like fold over a ribbon - and expect the mono to stick. It will likely pop up. I use 3M double sided tape or some other stickie things then.

It depends on what the project is. For delicate projects, such as working with light vellums, and tissue paper I will use a glue stick. However I mostly use the monoadhesive, and then when I need even a stronger hold I used Tacky Tape or my good ole glue gun.
