I'm altering an "old" tin recipe box, that I had and never used, for my mom. It's just a plain old box - no handle on the lid. What can I do to the top of the cover? I've mod podged with Daisy D's French Market paper - chickens on the sides and weathered "fence" with red polka dots on the top - and added some Primas, chipboard, buttons and ribbon to the front. The buttons are actually very old vintage buttons that belonged to my great grandma, then my grandma, then my mom and now me (mom gave me the jar of the buttons to use in my scrapbooking) so they do have sentimental value. I used 2 very pretty ones as centers on the Primas and 3 others as part of a border. (I'd take pictures and post them but the battery in my camera is dead at the moment... figures...)
Anyone have any suggestions of what I could do to the top? Prima's and buttons galore? How about a frenzy of ribbons? Nada? HELP!!!
TIA!!!

You could wrap ribbon around the edge of the top cover...you could add a book plate or something similar but larger with a saying or stating what the tin will be used for (if you know) and then add more primas and/or buttons around or in one corner...

About the only thing I have come up with is maybe a little clip of some sort so that while she is baking/cooking, she can clip the recipe to the recipe box so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle... *dunno*
What about the sides? Would you do anything with them?

I like it the way it is too. But if you want to add something to the top, you could try to put on your own 'handle'. The craft stores sell wooden knobs (and I think there are wooden eggs too if this box is rooster themed) and you could either glue or screw that to the stop. Paint/stain the knob first.
I LOVE IT! It is really really cute! Maybe like the poster above a little faux handle on top would add character to your tin! She will love it!
