DH has a business meeting all day and I am tagging along to go shopping. I know I am going to Ikea to pick up some more ink pad holders.
I would also like to go to Archiver's while I am up in the area. I guess what I am looking for is local stamping or scrapbook stores that I wouldn't know about. TIA
Unfortunately, there are not a ton of local stores around here. We used to have a stamp store, but it closed recently. But if someone has suggestions, I'd love to hear about them too! FYI - the trip to IKEA will take around 30 minutes and it's easy to get lost there - so plan on allowing some time. Other thoughts - there are great Nordstron Rack and Off Fifth stores really close to IKEA.
In Naperville, see if you can get time to wander the downtown and the Riverwalk a bit. It's a fun downtown with nice restarurants and stores. There are few local businesses left, but it is more and more national chains.
I've lived here 8 years (almost 9) and really like the area.
If you're going to IKEA then you'll be near the Woodfield mall - you could spend all day in there. Also, there is a Dick Blick art store in one of the outlots there by the mall.
I don't know where the Archiver's are up there (we have one in Orland Park and a stamp store in Lockport) but if you go on their website it will give their locations.
I agree, the downtown area of Naperville is very nice to walk around in and by the river if it's a nice day.
Paula - yes it was the Stamp Shack. I think the owner retired and moved. Dissappointing to lose another local shop - especially as one as nice as that one. But I can completely understand the economics of it.
Yes Stamp Shack has closed as has Memory Book Lane. But at the corner of Aurora and 59 you will have Archivers, Michaels and Joannes!!! If you go up a little farther to 75th, take a left, and go to Rickert there is a new place called Memories and Beyond. Very nice store. There is also a Create and Barrell outlet in Naperville behind the Target on 59. I have lived in Naperville since June and love it!

I don't remember what hotel we are staying in Wed. night but I know I am dropping him off in Naperville. Whenever we get up that way I go to Ikea so I can find that in my sleep.
I have drove past the Dick Blick store before but didn't know what it was.
Thanks for all the hints! Last time I went with him for something like this I went to Gurnee Mills. I don't think I will have that much time this visit.
Hate to hyjack this thread, but when I read the "title" all I could think of is you can stop in neighboring Auroa and visit my loney college son. He's 19, a freshman, 5 hours from home and surprising miserable!
In my searching today I found a couple of places listed online and wondering if anyone knows if they are still open or if these are only online stores.
Downers Grove- More than Memories, Front Porch Memories, & Memories and Beyond (Is this the one previously mentioned?)
Schaumburg- More than memories, Blick Art & Craft
Naperville-Scrapbook Junction
Villa Park- Scrappers Dream
Orland Park-Scrapbook station, paper creations
I know this is a lot for one day but I would rather have to much to go to than not enough.
I am in the Orland Park area and both Scrapbook Station and Paper Creations are still open. There is also a Michael's, JoAnn's and Archiver's in the same area.
The BEST LSS, in my humble opinion, however is in the city of Chicago - Windy City Scrapbooking. Well worth the trip if you can make it. THey have things I have never seen anywhere else. Like I said, I am in the Orland area but make sure to make time to get Windy City every couple months.
I am in Orland too! I wasn't sure if Scrapbook Station had re-opened. Didn't they close for a while?
I don't know if either of those has much for stamping. I haven't been in Paper Creations in a while, although I've been meaning to, so maybe that's changed.
There's also Stamp Thyme in Lockport - they have a pretty nice selection of stamps and ink. Not as strong on paper though.
I'm going to have to check out that store you mentioned!

HTH! Have fun!

That was coming up in a lot of my searches. I will have to get there but I think I am going to wait for another trip. But thanks again for the good advice!
Not a stamp or a scrap place, but Cookie Dough Creations-absolutely wonderful cookie dough made without egg-so does not need to be refrigerated. Totally awesome. They have website too-to get the address and stuff. www.cookiedoughcreations.com. Yum!
