I made and sent 20 hand stamped invitations for my DD's birthday party. They were shaped like library pocket cards and they looked pretty cute. Not one mother even mentioned the invitation. The only person who seemed to notice that the invitations were not the massed produced type was a father of one of the girls I invited. I guess I should be grateful that someone noticed regardless of the gender.
My biggest fan of my stamping is my Dad. I think women overlook these things sometimes, Or maybe they are just Jealous of your beautiful handstamped cards!! LOL!

I think it is GREAT that one of the dads noticed your card was handmade AND that he commented on it!!!! Very nice! Dont worry about the women not saying anything, I'm sure they really liked the invitation and wished that they could make something half as nice!
I agree, you probably intimidated them!!! My DH is my biggest fan, and when I used to do online swaps, he would be able to pick out my card out of all the ones that I got!! He got used to my style of card.
My BIL is the only one who ever comments on the cards I send. He is an ex-military man - very reserved, so I feel quite honored that he appreciates the cards.
I think people just get so self involved that they forget what a kind word could mean to someone else. Good for him for making a point to tell you he noticed and what he thought.
Although some of the posts here suggest jealousy as the reason for no comments by the moms at the party, my opinion is that many people just have no concept of creativity. I found a good quote the other day that fits this situation rather well....
"Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity."

(and honestly, I do think some women are sometimes a tinsy bit catty and jealous... enough not to say something nice to another about a handmade item).
I often get from lady friends who don't craft, "Boy, you must have a lot of free time on your hands"...
to which I reply, "we all get the same 24 hours per day. It's up to us how we choose to use them".....
And then I laugh my butt off when they turn a lovely shade of rage red!
I think that this just proves the point that, when working on something creative, it's more important to make yourself happy than worry about what anyone else thinks. If you stamp and craft to please yourself first, you'll never be disappointed.
If you're seeking a bunch of praise for your cards, you may be barking up a cold tree -- I have people look at me like I'm insane when I tell them I actually take the time and effort (and expense!) to hand-make cards. Many people just don't get it, and that's their right, too.

I was actually thinking that the men notice more because this tends to be in general something a lot more women do, or are into. Perhaps women just expect us all to be supermoms and making homemade everything....so they didnt even bat an eye over it? Though, I would be bummed too! Yay for the dad for saying something!
Guys can certainly come through in a pinch. I brought in some altered mailboxes for a mom of a coworker, from a recent sale I had, they were on her desk and a male attorney in our office went to her office to drop something off, and came in to me and asked if I made the mailboxes. He said they were very nice - and then I gave him crap for not coming to my craft sale in person! But he is so unobservant it made me feel really good that he noticed the mailboxes. Really, he will come in to my office, talk to me about a case and then I look at him and ask, 'do you think I'm an attorney' and then he gets flustered because he meant to talk to someone else, but stopped in on me instead. So when he observes something, it truly means something!
It also could be that people expect you to be creative, so they didn't think to comment on it. I've noticed that with my mum. She's talented in so many ways: writing, art, sewing, quilting, and so on. She'll create something new, and people will just say something like, "Well of course it's good, we wouldn't expect anything less from her." Which on the surface seems really nice, but on the other hand, what she makes seems to lose its impact on people.
