Smile HELP

I'm pretty new to SCS, just kinda jumping in here and there. I'm thinking about becoming a SU consultant , but I have a question. Do you all use exclusively SU stuff at your parties?? I have some stuff, and of course with the kit will have more, but my paper cutter isn't SU, and some other stuff? Is this ok? Any advice to really kick this into gear would be greatly appreciated. Also, any advice on what to teach at the parties. I've only ever been to 1 party! Am I getting in over my head?? Thanks.

Julie,

I just signed up and received my kit about a week ago. It is very exciting. Your business is what you make of it. The things that you demo at your workshops are to be SU, but things like a trimmer would be ok. The only thing you really 'need' is a passion for what you do. Your kit contains everything you would need to get started. The SU demo site, as well as the demo side of things here have great resources as to ideas for workshops.

Good luck with your decision.

Hi Julie,
Go for it! No, you won't have everything SU at first. But use what you do have at your workshops. Focus on the SU items, talk about them - let your stampin' enthusiasm shine! It will be your best asset
The kit will come with a video showing samples and stuff you can make with your kit contents. (And of course right now is a great time to sign up because you get an extra free stamp set in your kit!)
On a more personal note, I really love being a demo. I got in it just for the discount (as do most) but it's given me a lot besides more stamps I've learned lots, made great friends, met neat people (and even earned a cruise and grew a team - Who knew I had it in me?! Not me - until I did it.) You may be surprised at what you get out of it too.

I hope that helps,
Susan Epler

I've been a demo for 2 years now and I'm still weeding out the non-SU stuff. I would never use anything but SU stamps ink or paper though. But things like my heat tool (Marvy) I'm still using. I usually whip them out and say something like I was too cheap to stop using all my stuff when I became a demo, but I really love SU's (whatever) when I used it so you guys need to buy a whole bunch so I can buy more stuff! If I don't have personal experience with the SU product I don't glow about it. But like the heat tool , I love SU's and I tell them exactly why.

It's true though, the customers are more likely to buy what they get to play with.

I always use SU items at workshops.

However, I didn't actually replace all my non-SU stuff and over the years, SU discontinues stuff and I still use that stuff for my own use.

When I started, I replaced what I could afford to and then down the road gradually SU-ized my stash.

Just tell anyone who asks that you just started and you are working your way to obtaining better things!

I use as much SU product as I can. When I first started out I used something that was non SU and everyone wanted to buy it and of course I couldn't sell it. You sure learn as you go along! I have only been a demo since August and it's a blast. I love looking at everyones orders when it comes in and invariably always say "Oh I just have to get that". I don't think you are getting in over your head. Your business is what you make of it. That's the beauty of it - you get to be the captain of the ship and do as much as you want to.... There is all kinds of stuff you can teach and my advise is to start out with simple cards and as you get more confident you will graduate to the more involved ones. I also always had a "backup" card of what I was demonstrating so that if I screwed my demo up somehow I always had a nice one to give to the hostess. Sometimes people lift stuff off to see underneath and so the sample one can get a little tired looking from the handling. Hope these tips help - Also you can sign up to the demo part of the SCS site. That is a HUGE help and everyone is so awesome!!! Have fun! Good luck!!
