I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question, so let me know if I should move it elsewhere....
I'm working on a page where i want to have the journaling form to a shape. (in this case a circle, but im sure in the future id try other shapes too!) I dont want the text to fill up the whole circle, i just want it inline with the curve on one side. Hopefully someone will know what im trying to describe. I've seen it done in magazines but I just cant figure out how to do it! I've spent hours over the past 3 days clicking on every option I can think of but no luck. There has got to be an easy way to do this. Someone please help me!!
It's not an easy thing to do in Word, but it can be done. Word was not really made for fancy text placement. I will write out the instruction for you and post them later. I have a Birthday party this afternoon and don't have the time right now. I'll try to get them done tomorrow.

Thanks for your reply Cyndi. I was actually wanting to put my text inside of the circle. I was trying to find an example in the gallery but of course I oculdnt. After many hours of messing around on Word, I got frustrated and gave up. Then I changed my layout and used regular shaped text. So I finished the page I was working on, but I would still love to figure it out for next time if anyone knows how.
I don't think there's an easy way to do this. I have a separate program called "Creative Lettering" by Creating Keepsakes that will do this. I bought it on eBay for about $8 although I have seen this at Michael's for about $30.
But a work-around is this:
Draw the shape using the Shape Toolbar.
Create a text box that is just over the shape you've drawn.
Set the background color of the text box to None.
Set the line color of the text box to None.
Use your space bar and Enter key to fit the lines of text to the image behind.
See my attached example that I just did with a heart shape.
Kimberly a question about your Creative Lettering software
Do you use it a lot? Do you do it right on your scrapbook page or on another piece and add it to your scrapbook page? I have looked at these programs at Michaels and just wondered if I would ever actually use them. Thanks.
Hi Simplystampin123, no need to go out and buy any software. MS word is capable of doing alot of things. Hope this helps, if it's unclear pm me and I'll walk you through it.
1. Write out what you want to type
2. Select the shape that you want to put this in (ie/ circle) If this is not available already: go to your tool bar
Select “VIEW”, “TOOLBARS” and then “DRAWING” and select your shape.
3. The rest is close ot what CPW3431 says: Select “VIEW”, “TOOLBARS”, “WORDART”, then TEXT WRAPPING icon (it looks like a picture of a dog) , and the select “BEHIND TEXT”.
So you should now have the circle behind the words. Don't worry about placing your shape. Just select the oval shape and you can turn it into a circle, just adjust it to make it round. Once you do that you can drag it to anywhere on the page.

I haven't started scrapbooking yet. I'm actually more interested in digital scrapbooking -- but I'm kind of still in the "acquiring" stage (and I don't have anything to scrapbook yet). Actually, DH thinks that four gigabytes of scrapbooking stuff is a lot. Digital appeals to me because I never actually run out of supplies. ;)
So... to answer your question.. No, I don't use it a lot, but I can see how handy it can be.

I don't think this was what was originally asked.... I think she wanted the text to fill the shape. So that the text in the circle would be like the shape of the circle (fewer words at the top, more words in the center, and fewer words at the bottom) -- wrapped in a circle format. Not in a "square" format.
Although I did just find (in Word 2003) that once I add a shape to my document I can right-click and then select "Add Text." This doesn't wrap the text in the shape of the form though... just square. Saves a few steps.
So it alters my original directions to this:
Draw the shape using the Shape Toolbar.
Right click on the shape and select Add Text.
Use your space bar and Enter key to fit the lines of text to the image behind.
I mis-understood too! I thought she wanted to have the text curved up like a half circle. Glad I re-read the post save me from writing up instruction that weren't needed.

Sorry it took me so long to get around to replying to my thread :-) Thanks for your input everyone. I finally figured it out! I used Kimberly's method. I just played around with it, but hopefully next time I'll be able to use it for an actual layout!
