Default HELP!!! friend wants me to make her wedding invites!

OMG! I'm thrilled and terrified all at the same time! She/they want an envelopment type style. Does anyone know anything about mygatssby.com (http://www.mygatsby.com/product.jsp?ProductID=394199?) Any tips? Other resources? They are an amazing couple, but at this point are pretty penniless (both in master's degree programs). Help!!!! Y'all are awesome! I know you'll have great ideas. TIA!

I made wedding invitations and/or wedding programs for all of my kids. It was not bad at all. I bought the paper on sale. I used all my own stuff. If you dry emboss, it does a LOT on an RSVP card or envelope. I have made literally about a thousand wedding invitations or programs in the last two years (all my sons got married within 1 1/2 years and I made a friend at work's programs as well). Do some designs, check things out in the gallery -- you'll do great. I buy my Vellum in packages at Michael's with a coupon so that it's not bad at all. I think I fit four of the wording part of the invitation on one sheet of vellum and it's a package of 50. One idea is to use whatever colors are in the wedding as a background cardstock, using good paper like SU or Bazzill, stamping something with VersaMark or a matching color, folding over the top to fit ribbon underneath (SU grosgrain is an incredible value, and Michael's always has good sales on their ribbon), with the vellum wording taped or whatever underneath with the cardstock over it, covering the tape. Last year I used that beautiful flower set from Sell-a-Bration last year with the three long stem flowers, stamped in VersaMark on pink, had pink polkadot ribbon and vellum fronts, then ripped and sponged the bottom in pink. They went over well. Best wishes to you!

Wink

Given the pennilessness of this particular couple, they have chosen quite a complicated design..As many invites we have had from well to do, none have been quite this labor intensive...
Unless someones knows something I don't know. I think some beautiful wedding paper, vellum etc....could make a gorgeous invite, without all the mechanics of this particular card....

http://www.designedbychance.com/pock.../templates.htm

Here are some templates for some of those style invites.

Keep in mind you may have to downsize the invite, OR special order larger cardstock because of the size of the envelopement.

Good luck!

You can also do a search on theknot.com. At lot of girls on there have done their own invitations and have tons of templetes to use.

Thanks all! Appreciate the template link, thanks PF! Will head over to theknot next. GV, what size envies did you use and where did they come from? Y'all are SO wonderful -- I can't tell you enough!

Anyone know anything about thegatsby place? Quality, price comparisons?

I found theknot's mainpage and found wedding invite info but couldn't find my way to this area. Can you tell me how to access this or send a link? Thanks so much!

She's a dolly, and one of the things that's important to her is that this be fun and not a hardship. If she thought it was difficult, she'd drop it like a hot potato. This type of card design is one of the few things in the land-of-a-thousand-choices that they both really like, and if I can, I'd like to make it happen for them. They're very OK with the idea that it may be too difficult for me to manage or become too costly.

here's a few more for ideas and info:

http://www.wedoinvites.com/index.html

http://www.designedbychance.com/pock...directions.htm

*** for the large paper you'll need to make pocketfolds, here's a good one... i wasn't sure if you were talking about envelopements that are Petal-like or the pocketfold that folds out.

good luck and post pics!!

Thanks leanne! I had the same thought -- get the paper pre-cut if possible. Where we're at right now is looking into paper quality and color options (and of course -- finding the best choices while keeping it within budget!) Thanks for the great links -- I'll check them out.

As it looks right now, we may be getting 12x12 sheets (Either SU! or LSS where we can see and touch) and cutting them in half, using a fold line to join them (the couple would like an envelopment card that is long not wide -- does that make sense?). Looking at cutting in into two 6x12s. Still playing around with dimensions and how to reuse the leftover CS, how to gracefully conceal the join line.

Not sure if this will be less expensive than pre-cut. We've sent off for some samples from mygatsby and the magnificentbliss places. Pre-cut sure will save time, but it may save $$ too -- just wondering about quality.

Thanks all -- your cards and your collective wisdom are great! I'd never have attempted this project if I didn't have y'all as a resource!

once you play with it and figure out your cuts, you can take it to Kinko's and they laser cut it and it is perfect. They charge $1.50 per cut and it is so worth it. There is no "cut line".....you know like with some cutters, you have to use a certain side? They can cut up to 100 sheets at a time so it is not that spendy, but well worth the cost. I had over 1100 pieces cut for holiday cards and it was just over $25. I just figured out how to get the most cuts fromone sheet and drew a picture for them. Good luck

The reply cards were cut to the wrong size - I ordered the coordinating return envelopes with them at the same time and the cards did not fit in the envelopes... I could go on and on... overall, it was a AWFUL experience that I would not wish on anyone else. The price was good but service was BAD. JMHO - HTH

Thank you all who've given links and tips! We've ordered CS samples from both Marco's Paper and Anchor Paper and have been very impressed with the customer service and how fast they shipped. We'll be going with the 11x17" paper for the outer "folio" piece. So many pretties to choose from!

OMG - you are a rockstar! I would be too scared to even try! I love that you're jumping right in there! Please, please will you share what you wind up doing?

I wish I was so fearless ... I've turned down three requests over the years for wedding, shower and announcements. I couldn't even muster up the courage to do birthday invites for a 5 year old (I do for my kids but no pressure there, KWIM?)

Good luck with everything!

OK TJ, now you're totally freakin me out! LOL Actually, I keep letting the bride-to-be know that I'm really not too experienced, etc -- and she keeps reminding me that she isn't after perfection, but the memories connected to the experience, the process, and the bringing together of friends. The cool thing is, she really means it! And the groom-to-be is just as awesome!

Right now, we're totally loving Anchor Paper. Marco Paper comes in as a close second. We're loving the Stardream papers with matching envies.

Just put in an order for Stardream papers (saphire blue on the outside, quartz on the inside) through Anchor for approx 100 invites and all the rest (RSVPs, Thank yous, programs) -- will come to under $150.

I just finished my neice's wedding invitations this week. Here is the original three choices I posted for peoples opinions..She picked them up today, the cuttlebug makes some very classy looking backgrounds for weddings......Here are what I worked from.

Those envelope ones they want seem to be a pretty difficult option!

Mygatsby has great example for wording the invite. Click on word wizard and follow the directions from there.

Thanks to all who've shared links, ideas, cards, etc. If I ever figure out how to do a download, I'll show ya the card we came up with. It's Saphire Blue Stardream CS on the outside, long-wise envie style (17 x 20"), with Quartz Stardream on the inside. We're using the Watercolor Vine wheel (SU!) in Brocade Blue (SU!) along one side, and a small butterfly stamp (Inkadinkadoo) integrated in the text. We got the font from a free download for the wording. We'll use ribbon for a belly band of some sort. So far, the paper for approx 100 (invites, all the inserts, all the envies, thanks yous with envies, and programs is under $140. We're pretty happy!) Can't say thank you enough for all the wonderful help and inspiration y'all gave!

I'd love to see what you created and designed also!! My sister would like to make her own wedding invitations and I've offered to help. This thread has been such a great resource for ideas! Thank you to everyone.

I've started on some sample wedding invitations for my cousin's wedding (I'm also a bridesmaid). There are pictures in my gallery. I'll be making several more samples later this week. Hope she likes one of them!!
