Default Help!! My aching back!

The computer chair I sit in at my stamping table is killing my back. What do you sit on when you are crafting to avoid back pain?

I stand most of the time too. My countertop and table are both kitchen countertop height, so it is easier for me to stand than sit. It has helped me from getting a kink in my neck too!

I have a bad back, so my hubby bought me a expensive office chair. It is leather, and very soft fits perfect. I also have a kitchen table in my craft room so it works perfect together. I cant wait to get back to stamping.

I have two desks, two different heights...I use a Drafting chair with a back, no arms, I can stand and rest my bums on it or adjust it to any height...

Default my aching back

I replaced my cheap computer roller chair with a Moses chair from Ikea. It costs around $40 and is so comfortable. I love it.

You might try a FitBall disc on your chair. I use mine when I sew to get me up a bit higher, to allow me to move so my back doesn't stiffen up, and all that stuff. It really helps. I've even put it in the car when going for longer drives.

Diane, the fitball looks great! I'm not exactly petite... (my butt is as wide as my chair, LOL!) so would I want the 15" one? Sounds like something worth trying.

Lydia, I have a balance ball but it also hurts my back.

sparci, I'll check that chair out, too.

THanks everyone. Any more suggestions?

I mostly stand while I stamp due to back issues. I use a tall shop stool and had my friend build a 'stage' so my stamping table is high like a drafting table. I can sit on the stool and rest my feet on the 'stage' or stand while I work. The tables that hold most of my supplies are regular height and are arranged in a semi-cirlce around the main stamping table so I just have to turn on my stool and reach for my supplies. Good luck with your back issues!

I'm with the "standers" as my craft table is counter height. I also have an adjustable backless chair and a footstool for when I choose to sit.

I do stand quite a lot but I have a very comfy office chair that I purchased from Office Depot on clearance. However, I find that I lean forward when I stamp so I have a small pillow just at the small of my back-seems to help.

A tip given to me while I was still in the Air Force for 'office ergonomics' (since I flew a desk and not a jet ;) ) : try to pick a chair that doesn't force your knees higher than your behind - if it's adjustable, crank it up! The best chair I ever found for my back was a hand-me-down from a co-worker - when I first sat in it, I constantly felt like I was going to slide out of it, but after a couple hours in it I fell in love. Also, the chair-height should allow your elbows to 'graze' the table top, so you're not straining up higher (lower back pain) or slumping down lower (shoulder and neck pain).

HTH!

And the balance ball chair looks like fun!!

I have a bad back and neck and a few months ago I changed my computer and craft area to stand up only and I can now stand all day without getting sore one little bit!! When I go to use the computer in the other room that is a sit down one I am sore within 15mins - so have proven that standing is really good for you hope this helps!
