HELP!! Ribbon Storage
What do you all use for ribbon storage?? I've seen some of those 'homemade' boxes on here, and I've heard of the craftlocker (but have also heard they aren't so sturdy)...what do YOU do for your ribbon storage, and what are the pros and cons???
I'm really trying to get organized, and I'm having a heck of a time with my ribbons!!!

I just bought some great ribbon storage @ Target. They were in near Christmas stuff and cost only $5.99. Its been a life saver for me! I was overflowing with ribbon. It also has a clear storage bin in the bottom ?for extra rolls, or stray pieces-whatever!
My DH installed a piece of plastic gutter on my craft room wall. I LOVE it. Pros--can see all my ribbon, doesn't unroll when I don't want it to, easy to remove whole spool and take with me or empty, doesn't make spool next to it unroll also, cheap ($4 for 8 ft at Lowes).
Cons--Can't take all ribbon with you, puts whole in walls, not covered from dust.
I love it though, and wouldn't trade it for anything. In fact it is almost time for another piece.

oooh, I like that gutter idea. I was looking maybe for a spice rack, but none of the ones I've seen are deep enough. THanks for the ideas, please share more if anyone has them! Thanks!!!
...it's worked great for me so far, and only required 2 holes in the wall to mount since it is fairly lightweight. It was suggested that you put a piece of CS on the bottom of each shelf to prevent the spools from falling through the cracks, and that has helped a ton. There are so many solutions, though - hope you find the one that works best for you!
If you do a search in this forum you will come up with a lot of threads where this has been discussed before. There are a gazillion solutions!

I bought the craft locker craft box and I wrapped ribbon around cardboard and then just put them in the draw of the craft locker. This is great for on the go (like at crops). I also bought one of those boxes mentioned at target. It is clear and has a green lid that snaps on plus a draw at bottom for loose ribbon and has a handle on top for carrying. I also have some ribbon in baby food jars those are the loose ribbons that I only have like 1 yard of.
I have the rain gutter system, too...I LOVE it...I had them all on long hanging dowels, and I always wanted the one it the middle...now I can just take off the one I need! Kerilou
My friend uses a gutter for storage and it works great. Everything is only display for you to choose. You can even cut the gutter to the length that you want and cap the ends. The only drawback is that the larger spools of ribbon, such as the SU! grosgrain, do not sit in the gutter as well as the organdy ribbons and smaller spools. Just a thought....

Ribbon Storage box
Here's an idea. This a ribbon storage box. I made 2 of them. They work great. My ribbons are all together and don;t get dusty. They are also portable. Also great for cutting just the right length.
I did have the help of DH and the drill. It did take time, but well worth it!
I use expanding drapery rods (like the thin kitchen ones) and attached a screw hook to either side of my wall (28" deep- my stamp table is in my closet) and then slide the spools on. When I want to remove a spool or *add* one I simply life one end of the rod of the screw hook and add away. Initially I was worried that the ribbon would just unwind- so I take a piece of twine (or even thread) and pull it through the center of the spool and tie a little knot. This way my ribbon stays right in place, the little twine doesn't get in the way, and it was super CHEAP!
Cost:
Drapery rod $2.19
box of 4 hooks $1.19
twine/thread $ nothing, I have tons everywhere.
I keep mine in a rather deep drawer in one of my Iris Carts. Just one of those little plastic chests that you can keep sweaters in. I like that it's very accessible, but it's not going to get dusty. I have most of the grograin colors, so those fit in one row, then the organdys, ginghams, and cording. Works well for me! I'll try to upload a picture sometime.
Well, I have a couple of different ways that I store mine...
I have some on spools in 2 photo storage boxes that I keep right next to my table. Keeps them dust free...
I also have a big glass jar, and in it are doll pins wrapped with different ribbons. I rolled ribbons that I had that were 1-2 yards, and they fit on there nicely. So - I have a whole bunch in there - because it all fits compact...
Then, my SU ribbon that I use for demonstrations & samples, I have on my desk in one of those 3 drawer things (that fit the 8.5x11 paper) and have my scraps/pieces in the other drawers.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ribbon... I have way more than I'll ever use, but my strange little system does work for me...
