I'm trying to make a board to hang on the wall to hang my cards on. I have the idea, but not quite sure how to do it. I have attached a pic of someone's scrapbook page. This is similar to what I want to make. I know you cover the front with fabric and than add the ribbon and tacks. What do you put in between the fabric and the backing as far as foam, corkboard?? And what do you use for a backing?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Jenn you are too good too me!!! Thank you!! Thank you!! I've seen the ones at Walmart and Target, but I wanna make a great biggie!!
Thank you again!!
I bought a fairly cheap pre-streched canvas when Mike's had them on sale, then covered it with some quilt batting I had, which I stapled onto the frame in the back using a staple gun. Then I covered it with fabric & did the ribbon thing, again stapling to the back of the frame.
The pre-stretched canvases are already framed, come in a variety of sizes & are lightweight so they will hang easily.

You can make these with fabric, foam core board, ribbon, buttons and tacky glue. Cover a double thickness of foamcore with fabric, glue down with tacky glue. When glue is dry add ribbon, gluing where ribbon intersects. To finish glue buttons to cover ribbbon intersections. I glued thumbtacks onto the buttons. Hope this helps, with this you can make it as big as you want.
I knew there had to be some way to keep things on display without it looking cluttered. This is a great idea and I have so much fabric ( I quilt) and other sewing items that alls I need is the canvas. The link with directions is great.
Thanks
Jenn
I just made one these for my room. Sorry no digital camera, and the board doesn't that fit on my scanner. :) My board measures 3 feet x 4 feet. It hangs horizontally.
I took two pieces of cardboard from a heavy duty shipping box. I taped them together. Layered thin quilt batting on top of them.
Layered fabric over that. I glued the fabric to the backside using hot glue. Do opposite sides one after the other to get a smooth finish.
I then pinned the ribbon where I wanted it to cross and glued that to the backside.(There is a lot of flipping front to back to see progress.)
I glued buttons where ribbon intersected. You could hot glue tacks into fabric/cardboard by putting dots of hot glue on intersections then pushing tacks down hard into cardboard. Be careful don’t burn yourself. Glue buttons over tacks.
To hang it I hot glued a ribbon onto the top edge. I used a massive amount of hot glue and pressed a square of cardboard over the top of the ribbon and glue, the square was larger than the ribbon/glue area so some cardboard would bond with the cardboard on the back of the board. I hung it from a dragonfly coat hook that I secured into the wall with one of those expandable inserts.
The fabric is so cool. It is the inspiration for my color scheme for my stamp room. I’m going to paint Pale Plum upper and Sage Shadow lower or as close as possible, on my walls. I’m going to paint all the shelving to match the color wall behind it. That way the room won’t seem so closed in.
I did a super simple one for DH. I bought a cork board, he picked the fabric (a dark plaid). I used a staple gun to attach it to the frame with no backing between the material and the board. Instead of ribbon I used 1/4" elastic that I dyed with ritz dye to compliment the fabric. I stretched it a little taunt and stapled that as well. I didn't use any buttons. But besides using the elastic to hold pictures, you can stick in some large decorative tacks and rest items on top of them to prop them up. (Not through the paper, does that make sense?) I think it helps make use of the open spaces.
I just made my own on Sunday. I saw a vertical ribbon board at Target I liked, but I knew I could make my own with leftover fabric, ribbon and a cork I never liked due to it being plain. picture of my board
I have a couple of Boards that I purchased at Target. I will say they really dress up the walls in my Stamp Room. We are currently in the process of designing our next home and I have given my DH the plans for a large photo board I would like him to create for me. I will PM you a photo of the current boards I am using that have worked well for my current space.
I used to display my cards like that, but I found that it bends them. Could be the AZ heat that does it too, not sure. I put up a large sheet of metal (hopefully one day it will be trimmed with moulding) so I can magnet my cards up. I use a magnetic sticky back biz card & stick that to one of the clear bags that the cards fit in. It stays on the board & no warping. If I want to swap the card out, I can!
The sheet of metal was only $10.00 at Home Depot, and is about 3'x5'

I saw an idea in the gallery where the cards were hung over string that was tacked directly to a wall. I bought some really cute clothespins at WalMart for cards that have side folds, and I'm planning on putting two rows up in my stamping area this weekend.
