I never heard of it either but I will be going the next time I'm in vegas

Wow, you are all so fantastic. I have some great info, especially about all the places with food, I best start exercising now to lose some of the weight. LOL
I am so glad that this thread seems to have helped several other people as well.
I keep checking back every couple of days, if you think of anything new
Best wishes to you all
I live in Vegas and absolutely LOVE Viva Las Vegas Stamps. The owner and his pets are wonderful. The store is hidden on a side street just east of the Sahara Hotel and Casino and the monorail. The neighborhood is older but it isn't as bad of a section of town as one of the previous posters stated. He's only open 10 am to 4 pm so being there at night isn't an issue. As a "near native" of 16 years I find the strip to be scarier than VLV's neck of the woods.
I only have one caution - if you are picking through the pile of unmounted rubber watch your basket. The black persian cat likes to take things OUT of your basket. Maybe the owner should train him to put things IN your basket. LOL.
Don't let the section of town deter you from visiting and supporting the only stamp store left in Las Vegas. The selection is great with lots of Vegas themed stamps for great souvenirs. And I appreciate anyone that supports his store. I can't do this by myself. (Although I have tried on many occasions...)
Have a fun trip.......:-D

Hi Michelle,
When are you going on your trip? Please when you return could you give a rundown of your touring experiences. I can't walk in your shoes so please share your memories so that we can go along ! Later on maybe when I am retired or really tired I could go for a trip there to see the sights! Thanks! Helen
I've recently read (on another thread) that Viva Las Vegas has a dispenser that fits most brands of really sticky tape, including (of course) the one they carry (Miracle Tape?). I think that would make it so much easier to apply adhesive (esp. for those of us that find an ATG gun too unwieldy).
Oh wow....I leave for vegas in approximately 7-1/2 days....sould be at Viva Las Vegas stamps a wk from tomorrow!!!
Can't wait for you to go! Please come back and give us a report and let us know what you bring back in your basket! ( watch out for the kittycat! )
I just got back from San Francisco and Berkeley. My boyfriend's son lived in Sf and now the East Bay so we go there about once a year. Besides the other places people have mentioned, I went to the East Bay Reuse Depot. This is one of those places that may be great or may be a bust just depending on what is there when you show up. I got eight or nine hanks of loose fibers for $1.25. They had several boxes of wood mounted Hero Arts stamps-maybe these are discontinued or overstock since Hero Arts is headquarted in this area. A pound of stamps was 5.00. There is a similar place in SF called Scraps, but I have never been there.
If you love paper, I recommend Flax Art Supply. They have an entire large room of all sorts of specialty papers at good prices plus they also have a big selection of prescored cards, envelopes of all sizes, Fabriano brands, tons of ribbons, and all sorts of art supplies to boot. I told my BF that I want to stay at the Travelodge next door to Flax on our next visit lol.
Is it really cold in SF now...I visited last year about this time and froze me buns off...I was not prepared...it was cold!
Really???? I was in SF last year the last week of Feb and going into the first week of March and the temp were in the 70 every day......tulips were blooming...it was wonderful weather

If you like hand made art jewelry, there is a WONDERFUL store in SF called 'Velvet Da Vinci' that I love. Also, Josef Schmidt chocolates is in SF and is really fun.
As for eating, SF is great. Check out Zagats for recommendations.

Ohh! good idea to stay at the Travelodge next door cause you could go and shop for a few hours and bring back your haul.... Have a snack and a bathroom break and then go back again! Is it a big store where you could stay for a while? I know it could be dangerous going home..... might be a be tight for space or the back end of the car might be dragging a bit from shopping!
Thanks for sharing!
to the best of my knowledge there are no scrapbooking stores in SF :o(
however, if you are willing to take a short drive over to Berkeley ( about 20 min East of SF) you will find Scrapbook Territory. THe store is HUGE has 100's of different patterned papers, 100's of unique stamps you will not find elsewhere (seriously) and of course the entire line of Technique Tuesday Stamps as well as others, the entire Tim Holtz line and all sorts of doodads that are so much fun to play with. I love the store, beware they are closed on Mondays. The shops all along the quaint street are eclectic with unique shops and wonderful eateries.
hth and have fun fun fun!
I so agree about Scrapbook Territory, wonderful store. In fact you will love that entire street as there is also 2 other paper stores, great resturants, and other wonderful shopping. Here is the link to ST: http://www.scrapbookterritory.com/
The weather is usually nicer in SF than here in the valley this time of year. It's the summer that is usually cold in the bay area. But, we been having weird weather this year so who knows, one week it's like spring and the next you can freeze your buns off. If time allows they reopened the Museum of Natural History, it's amazing. I know this might sound bad, but I had to pick between the museum and Berkley, I'd take Berkley, it's a really fun way to spend the day.
Ok....just returned from Vegas and took a taxi over to Viva Las Vegas stamps....then we walked back to the strip! We saw no murders and didn't get mugged. It was worth checking out.
I live in SF too,
and go to Daiso in Serramonte Center, JoAnn's in Colma, Beverly's in Westlake Mall in Daly City.
NO lss in SF (rents too high);
I buy my washi paper in Japantown, at the Kinokiniya Stationery Store, across from Kinokiniya Bookstore.
Scharfenberger may be closed now, due to the economy (rumor has it that Hersheys will produce from East Coast);
I like Scrapbook Nook in San Bruno,
I haven't been to Scrapbook Territory yet.
When are you coming? March 20 and 21 is the scrapbook expo in Pleasanton CA. I buy lots of my supplies there, good deals.
Favorite place for dim sum in Chinatown is at City View, in Commercial Alley.
Seafood is best at R & G on Kearney....
(ask me how I know *grin*)
Hope you can visit North Beach, Asian fusion best at HOUSE,
Bring an empty suitcase with you!
Just for fun go to the top of Macy's at Union Square and have a beverage and/or snack/dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. It's got a great view of the square. Love it at Christmas time. I like Yank Sing at Rincon Center for dimsum. And Gordon Biersch near Pac Bell for garlic fries. But what do I know? I'm always a tourist when I come to the city!! ;) Going to Vegas next week, can't wait to check out Viva Las Vegas!!
There is a Paper Source in the Marina and on Fillmore in San Francisco. I like the one the Marina better, and there are lots of other cute boutiques around it.
We'll try to have the red carpet rolled out for your visit, Jennik... I've always wanted to have the Yellow Brick Road painted up our street... still might do it as it's a weird situaiton where I actually own the streets around my property!

Only 3 weeks until my vacation. Thanks for all the info, I'll keep popping back to check any last minute info.
I am looking forward to Viva Las Vegas Stamps, do I get the red carpet too? I'll be the one with the Australian accent.
Is VLVS open every day from 10-4? Will there be any special hours or anything I need to know about for the Easter weekend?
If I have walked from Excalibur to the Hilton (with a couple casino stops on the way of course) will I be able to walk to the store?
Could someone tell me exactly where it is, near the Sahara, right?
TIA!
See you soon Stampo
Monday-Friday 10-4... other hours by appointment... if you're a walker, you can do it... I'm too fat... we're one mile east of the Sahara Hotel and you should get the directions at www.stampo.com/map.html See you soon!
Oh my gosh, I am so glad our Aussie friends started this thread. I frequent Vegas and I am always and forever pulling out the yellow pages looking for stamps. I have never heard of VLVS! Sorry owners, that must be frustrating. But I heard of it now. I am so excited, I hope I can find it. I plan to come in May. Well first I have to convince dh to let me go, but he is gonna have to just drop my butt off cuz I can see by the blog photos its not gonna be a quick in and out!!! I am really looking forward to the visit. WHAAAWHOOO
OK dh just walked by, showed him the thread, he said I can go!!! I think he said he would make one of those calls to the store and say "my wife can buy whatever she wants"
