Default Hook and Loop Tape?

Okay, am I'm the only who's never heard Velcro referred to as hook and loop tape. It actually made me do the HUH? thing when it was first said.

A lot of manufacturers refer to it as that so they don't get sued because Velcro is a trademark (at least that's my guess!)

I've heard of it refered to as hook and loop. But we used to do work for the garment industry.

Yup, that's the very reason why other manufacturers won't use the name Velcro. If you've paid close attention to any of the craft shows, including kids shows that have crafts segments, you'll notice that they never refer to the Velcro they use as actual Velcro unless that's the brand name they are using. They usually say something like: ... use this hook and loop closure/tape like Velcro ...

I went to buy some velcro 2 days ago and thought it was too expensive, I also saw the hook and loop tape too, but didn't buy it because I wasn't sure if it was the same thing. Boy was I stupid, I paid 3 times as much for the velcro  . Next time.....
