I will be in Houston, actually at the Space Center and staying in La Porte, next week for a few days and wanted to know if there are any scrapbooking stores I should know about and the best places to eat - nothing fancy, just good food, good service, and a good place to go. The Aquarium Restaurant looks interesting, but the reviews I've read haven't been good.
Thanks!

I love Houston! My DBF is from here. They have an Archivers at the Katy mall. I think they have some other scrapping stores...I'll look into it! As to a place to go eat, they just built a Kona Grill by the First Colony Mall in Sugarland and also have one downtown, love that place (its on the pricey side, but if you go during happy hour, they have AWESOME deals)...There's also the Canyon Cafe on Westheimer which my DBF loves, Saltgrass is really good - authentic Texan steakhouse and not too expensive. I'll ask him for other recommendations. If you have time, check out the Galleria - its an awesome mall that has both high end (Louis Vitton) and "normal" stores. I think its better than the Mall of America!
houstonareascrapbookroundup dot com has a list of stores in Houston with a map. Apparently I can't post links yet. By Design Scrapbook Boutique, Croppin Bug, Just 4 Fun Scrapbooking, Scrapbook Junkie and Novel Approach are all pretty close to where you will be staying. I've only been to Just 4 Fun and it is a good store.
The Lone Star Scrapbook Co is my favorite but is in The Woodlands. Archivers is in Katy and isn't featured on that list/map.
As far as restaurants go the Aquarium is really cool but the food is just okay. I highly recommend any of the Pappas restaurants - Pappas Seafood is just that, Pappadeaux is cajun seafood and Pappasitos is mexican. If you go to Kemah Boardwalk keep in mind that all the restaurants on the Boardwalk are owned by the same company and are all pretty much the same quality wise. However it is a fun place to visit. There is also a Kona Grill in the Galleria which is good and a Cheesecake Factory (yummy).
Oooh - forgot about Goode Company - only the best BBQ - if you go don't forget to save room for Pecan Pie - the one on Kirby is frequented by ZZ Top and other famous locals.

You're going to have a ball. I'm over an hour away just on the other side of Houston but I worked in the NASA area for 3 years. The Aquarium Restaurant does look interesting. The food is average and the price is a little high but the Aquarium part of it is beautiful. Instead eat along the boardwalk and watch the boats. I also want to steer you away from the Joe's Crabshack down there. It's no longer part of the main chain and I found out why by mistakenly eating there once. The boardwalk itself is quite entertaining for kids.
There are a number of scrapbooking shops down there but there are other posts to help you with that
Let's see: cadillac bar and saltgrass would be good - I haven't eaten in those locations but saltgrass is a chain and quite good. cadillac is mexican and the in-town location is wonderful.
Thanks for all the great suggestions. Since this trip is primary all about/for my DD, Iwant to make the eating experience good too. But, I did tell her I get at least 1 scrapbooking store and she didn't have a problem with that.

There's several really good scrapbook stores in Houston. Archiver's in Katy is on Fry Rd. There's several down near Just4Fun (which is really in Pearland). Down the road there's one with a lot more stamping stuff called Novel Approach. I think there's a couple in the Kemah area too.
