I know about that!!! My mother and I actually got blisters from the glue and rubbing it off. I tried goo gone and un du and nothing worked as much as just rubbing it off...

What kind of investment would you say it is to go unmounted- ez mount, blocks, everything? I have maybe 50 sets.
You can get many, many stamps on a sheet of EZ. You won't have that big of expense. Buy from one of the places that offers free shipping, like Cornish. In the end it is more than worth the cost to switch over. You will save so much buying from UM companies!
I agree with housefan's suggestion to not just buy from the place with the lowest price on EZ Mount. IIRC I got my batch of EZ Mount from Joann.com; not the cheapest price out there, but I was ordering from them anyways and got free shipping with that order.
Thanks for the tip on the gummy gummed up stamps, ladies! Guess I will take the slow but sure route of eventaully rubbing the glue off with my fingers, and next time I UM stamps with adhesive still on the back of the rubber, if it's smooth I won't mess with it!
I subscribed to this thread ages ago and have yet to unmount a single SU set. However, I just purchased HL alpha and would like to leave it unmounted and never use the wood blocks. What product do I need to do this--ez mount, or is there something else? Thanks, ld
TAC (The Angel Company) sells it as "Creative Cling" but it's the same product. I haven't seen it at any of the local stores (like Joann's, Michael's or LSS) but you can find it online too.
I am SOOO excited about joining the unmounted crowd. I have about 75 sets to do but I'm sure I will get there eventually.... I purchased a box of 24 jewel cases from Staples yesterday for $9.99 and just unmounted my FIRST set tonight. Can't wait to see how much space I save and how convenient my sets are. Is anyone/everyone also unmounting their stamps from other companies ...like Penny Black, Hero Arts, M's $1, etc ?? Just wondering. Thanks for all the helpful info and advise on going unmounted!!

I'm about 2/3 finished unmounting everything I have. You're going to love the space savings! I measured the other day - one of my shelves holds 22 SU sets in their plastic boxes, on their sides like books. That shelf measures a little over 24 inches long. The same number of CD cases takes up just over 8 inches of shelf space. Huge difference!
Still wondering if you unmounted gals are also doing non-su! stamps. If so, how are you putting together "sets". Are you matching companies or themes, etc.

Yes, I'm unmounting the non-SU stamps as well. I didn't have that many non-SU on wood, but the ones that I have are being arranged mostly by company. I have a few from early on that I don't know what company they're from, so they get grouped together. Most of my non-SU wood mounted stamps are sentiments, so they go together pretty well. Not sure what I'd do if I had a lot of random image stamps to store.
would you unmount retired sets? you can't demo with unmounted stamps? the ones you unmount are only for personal use then? do you think you would be able to resell if you ever decide to get rid of a specific set you had unmounted, or would you keep the wood to mount it and then sell?

Personally, I'm unmounting everything, current or not. I am a demonstrator, but I don't do workshops. I have a monthly stamping night at my house and that's it. I don't think the resale will be an issue. The audience is different, that's all. Some people only buy unmounted. And there's no way I'm saving the blocks! I'm unmounting for the space savings, and I have enough junk in my garage as it is. (We have no basements in Texas, but that's a gripe for another day...)
