Default How do you do the Definitely Decorative stamps on walls?

I have a friend and potential customer that wants to stamp on her kitchen walls. What kind of paint should she use? How do you get the paint on the stamps without it being too much? Are there any tricks or tips to doing it? How do you clean your stamps when done? What do you clean them with? Keep in mind, the woman who wants to stamp on her walls has NEVER stamped on ANYTHING! And I've never stamped or stenciled on any walls, so can someone walk me thru this? And any visual aids you have would be great too! TIA!!!! ~Pam

Here's a good post with several ideas...

Forums at Splitcoaststampers

I stamped in my bathroom using regular semi-gloss paint (my method is in the above post and there is a picture in my gallery).

Since it wasn't oil-based or anything, I just washed them off with water and a cloth.

I know a lot of people use acrylic paint for this...

Hope this helps!

Jess

Stamping on walls is easy and in many ways more forgiving than stencils.
Use acrylic paint. If you make a mistake, it wipes off the walls. Just a bit of soap and water will clean up the stamps. I use a sponge brush to apply the paint and an artist brush to add flecks of other colored paint to the stamps when I want variation. For instance, on my pinecone stamp I used a darker brown and put in lighter brown flecks here and there. It terms of placing a pattern on the wall, simply measure up from the counter xx inches and place pencil dots every so often. Connect the dots with masking tape for your line. Use shapes around the house to make other patterns. For instance, I have a medium sized oval picture frame which I use to make an arc pattern on the wall.

Now I have to confess, I have helped 3 friends stamp a variety of rooms in their houses and I have yet to stamp my own walls! Yikes! I am truly ashamed. Although I have finally decided on the fern leafs for my front bathroom, I have the set ready and waiting to go! Just need the time.

Oooh, I'm so glad you asked this. My mom ordered Roses in Winter and wanted to try stamping one of her bathrooms with it, and I promised her I'd come here and get some tips for her. I'd forgotten all about it until I saw this post!

Thanks for the tips, ladies!

I just have to say, I used regular flat wall paint to do leapfrogs in my sons room. It worked just fine, though my stamps are now a mess. ( I couldn't get just the color I wanted with acryllics) Just so you know, its an option.

I just got Bold Butterfly and while I was mounting the stamps I saw there were 2 papers in the case so I pulled them out and there were instructions on how to use paints with stamps.

I've used acrylic paint and had good luck with it. If you're scared to go right on the wall, stamp on clear contact paper and then apply to your wall. I did this for a border around the bathroom mirror, and also on sections of my wood doors. This also lets you stamp on a flat surface.

I'm glad that I saw this thread tonight. My (soon to be) SIL is interested in getting into SU specifically b/c she wants to stamp on the walls. I thought that she was supposed to you use craft ink  i have to get better educated about what paints to use, so that i can help guide SIL when she wants to start on her project. ~Maria
