I used the Canvas BG stamp for the first time yesterday and had all sorts of problems getting it to ink evenly. Anyone have any tips on this?
TIA,
Barbara

I have better luck using a Stampin' Spot than a big pad. I just go in lines with the Spot and cover the stamp. Personally I think it looks better if it's a bit "imperfect".
Are you sure it's not when you stamp that it ends up uneven? I have to lay the inked Canvas down, rubber side up, and put my cardstock on top of it, then rub.
I first rub accross my BG stamp with the ink pad and then tap it on the pad...I do not have a brayer. Never thought I would need one until recently and I have tons of ideas and tips for making everyday stamping easier so...now I have one ordered. I do this with either my classic pads or a stampin spot...I had to do a bit of trial and error to learn how to get an even inked image.
I do have to agree that the "imperfect" look is definitely the best way to go and very popular!
Rubbing the pad across and then have the stamp sit on it's back with the rubber up set your paper on top and then have a scratch piece of paper like computer paper to gently rub with your fingers or a bone folder. That seems to help for me. It takes a little practice and that particular background seems to be harder for me than the others. Good luck.
I know alot of people will say not to do this, but it is what works for me. I first tap the ink pad on the stamp, then swipe it across in both directions. Then I put the paper on top of the stamp along with a piece of scrap paper and use the brayer. If I am sitting at the table I will stand up and put the paper under the stamp and press down, but most of the time I am on the floor, so the brayer method is what I use.

Exactly what she said. I have found with all of my background stamps that this is the easiest for me.
I rub my pad on the big stamp and then tap it on nay spots that seem like they are not all glossy. Then I place my cardstock on the stamp, then a piece of scrap paper and pat and rub gently without moving the cs or paper . . .
Thanks for all of your help. I will get a brayer next order and give that a try. I tapped, I swiped, I rubbed, I tried the stamp facing up and facing down and still didn't like the results. I liked the unevenness of the stamp but didn't like the fact that it seemed I could see where I actually put ink on the stamp. I 'll keep practicing though it is an awesome background.

So those of your that are using a brayer, are you inking the brayer and then using it to ink the stamp? Or are you using the brayer to press on the cardstock to get better cardstock/stamp contact?
I run the ink across the stamp and I put the cs on the stamp and rub. I also don't think the canvas stamp is made to be completly stamped on the cs, the gaps give it an atiky look. This is my favorite bs I use it often.

I ink my brayer to apply the ink to the stamp, which I place rubber side up on my table. Then I place my cardstock over top, put a piece of scrap paper over top, and rub it with my hand. Works great for me.

I have been using the bone folder technique... works really really good. I have a brayer, but have not tried that...try the bone folder or a straight edge in the meantine before your next order.
