Default How Old Is Too Old?

This is my first post but I have been a member since July of this year. I get the feeling that everyone on SCS (which I love, love) is young or a least younger than me. I was sixty six on my last birthday. Just curious if there are any other older stampers out there. My daughter is the demonstrator and I believe, although she would deny it, I am her only customer. At least I am her best customer!

Hello - I am not as old as you but don't consider myself young (just young at heart). I am just this side of 50 so there are a few of us out here that areolder. We have all age groups here and I don't think anyone actually thinks about it - we all just love stamping!

Default How old is too old?

I feel that there is never a point in ones life that you can be too old.
I am 42 and been stamping about 8 or 9 years now, and feel that if I live as my grandmother did I'll be blessed.
She passed away in 1999 at the young age of 103.
She survived the death of 3 children, two boys and my mom, and 4 or more wars, I can't seem to remember how many there were.
My grandmother and one of her sisters came to America just months before WWII with their husbands who were brothers and started a new life here in Minnesota.
She was an avid knitter and quilter up until just a few months before her death. She's the one who passed on the crafting bug to my mom and to me and I thanked her every time I saw her.
I am very lucky to have known her and hope I live just as long to enjoy life too. I enjoy many crafts but stamping is my all time favorite.

Hi, APandi!

First, to answer your question, there is no "too old"! There was a post a while back asking about people's birthdays, and there really is a nice representative of ages here. Second, this is truly an ageless hobby - I plan to be stamping my own cards when I'm 90, and judging by the addicts (oops, I mean members) on this site, I'm betting I won't be alone!

Good for you for sharing your support and love of stamping with your daughter - my dream is to one day get my mother or my mother-in-law hooked - I think it's a great way to bond!

Welcome!!!

I agree, there is no "too old" for stamping. I am 45 and my Mom who is a stamper too, is 70. Although she doesn't have much time for stamping since she started scuba diving two years ago!

I am a 65 year old demo and my customer ages are from 50 - 74 years old. None of us feel "old" but just have a great time stamping.

You guys are depressing me. You're not old! I'm 52 but I don't want to think of myself as old. I started stamping about three yrs. ago and I love it so much. It's nice at this age because I don't have little children to tend to. Carol

I'm 44 but there are days I feel 24 and days I feel 94.

I've found that even though I'm getting on in years, the kid is grown and gone so I don't have to feel guilty about stamping/scrapping, etc. when I should be spending quality time with DD. Plus, I no longer feel guilty about spending money on supplies to support my habit.

Default Never Too Old

Hi all,

I'm turning 57 this Saturday and I just started stamping this past year and I'm also a S.U. demo. We have a card group where the members are 48-70 and we have a blast.

I sure don't feel old, even though the years say otherwise. I hope to be stampin when I'm 90-100, with all you younger ladies.

One of the great things about stamping is that there are no age limits - at either end!!! I am 62 and am fairly new at it. My daughter is more avid about it than I am (not to mention much better also) and it is another thing I love about it - something to do with her and her friends. For Christmas my 8 year old granddaughter said she wanted some stamping stuff! YES!!!! One of them is interested. Of course, not that I went overboard buying stuff for her or anything. Now I have to match up for the other ones! Enjoy your stamping and creating.

My mom also stamps, and she is almost 65. She is a member here but not too computer savvy, so she doesn't get on too much.

I'll turn 47 next month and love the creative avenue of stamping. My niece who is 9 asked me to make her a stamping kit for Christmas because she thinks my cards are so much fun! I too don't feel guilty about taking time away from DS who is 14 1/2. like someone else said. Just enjoy and have fun.

Default How old is too old?

Hi APandi: I've been posting like crazy on here since I joined up in October 2004. I'm 51. Gee, it sounds old when I say it, but I don't think of myself that way. I'll bet you don't, either. My best friends range from their 20's to their 60's and I have fun with all of them. There's a lady in my stamping group who is 70. I don't even begin to think about her age when I'm with her. I goof around with her just like I do with everybody else! I work with a girl who just graduated from high school and we go on breaks together, laugh, chat, share life's concerns. A very good friend is 60, just started stamping this year, discovered a talent she didn't know she had (she's very good at it) and is absolutely giddy with each accomplishment!

So, you see! There's no age here! We're just a band of happy stampers doing our thing and loving every minute of it! Let's hear more from you -- post comments on some of these wonderful cards. We'll see if we can detect the 60+ years in your voice. I'll bet we can't! And it wouldn't matter anyway. Diversity is good. That's what this site is all about! Glad to hear from you!

When I was 48 I was introduced to stamping...I had only done one other creative/artistic thing (photo montage)...age is no longer an option...stamping has brought out the child and now she rules!!!! I have met so many wonderful women of all ages and yet of no age...we have no time for that, only for positive FUN and SHARING and living life in color!

And Leslie...I stamp with a woman of 82...and she's amazing...and full of spirit. I hope I am that full of wonder when I'm 82!

Gosh, my screen woke me up with an automatic update so I did the thing with restart and since I was up I thought I would check out SCS so this forum, thought it looked interesting and there I am mentioned.

Ususlly I don't think about my age but when I do I usually think I shoudn't be feeling this good because after all I am 71

Then there are those times I shouldn't be treated as if I am young because after all I am 71, give me a break.

Then I look in the mirror and yikes, I am 71

Then I thank God because He has cared for me and got me this far despite myself. Like the one set of footprints.

I love stampin', went to my first workshop in 1999, signed up in 2000. I am a hobby stamper with a great studio and love to share what I have with friends and the community. I do live on the shores of beautiful Medina Lake NW of San Antonio TX. I am the next to last house on my lane, this lane ends at the water and I have a cove in my front yard and the lake at my back door which is on a cliff or I would be in trouble when it floods.

Well you got this "lil ol'lady" started but I will have to stop myself with a
"take care and stay warm."

I have a customer who is 84 and a very talented stamper - she amazes me with her creativity and use of new techniques. The group she is in are from a small rural farm community and range in ages from 55-84.

I would love to get my Grandmother involved in stamping, she has always been an avid crafter and loves to write letters, it would be a perfect medium for her. Her passion is quilting and she is on her 3rd quilt this winter, she's bound that she is going to beat last winters total of 8 quilts - all hand sewn! She doesn't quilt in the spring or summer as she is busy tending her gardens and in the fall she is canning. My Grandmother turned 94 last July - now that's inspirational to me!

too old?????? phhhffffft!! As others have posted.....never too old. I didn't start stamping until I was in my 50's. I've been a demo for 2 years now and I love it. My music specialist job gets in the way some but I still have about 2-3 workshops a month. I'm expecting my very first granddaughter in the next 2 weeks. I'm married to a guy who totally supports my stamping. Life is good at 56 yrs old. Stamping is a joy of creative splurging and sharing at any age.
I'm glad you posted....when I realized how many 20's and 30's there were on SCS, it did give me a bit of a pause. finally, the greyhaired segment has been brave enough to out themselves.

You absolutely can't be too old. My mom is 70 and just learned to stamp this year. She gazes at the gallery here, but doesn't get on the forums. That's more of a computer issue, though.

I started stamping when I was a teenager (and now I'm farrrrr from that!!!). I'm thankful that this is a hobby that I can enjoy as long as my hands will move and my mind will create.

I am so energized reading all these posts from my peers!! I am 62 and have been stamping for at least 18 years. It has been so interesting to see the changes in this craft. So many stores and companies have folded, but SU just keeps getting stronger and better.

Now I have to go have breakfast...and then stamp!!

Well, Oldstmpr, we've been stamping for about the same number of years but you got started younger than I did! You are right, it is interesting to see all the changes, and improvements, over the years in the world of stamping. We remember when it was difficult to find raised ink pads, don't we? Most of my customers are also 50+, many of them new stampers, some of them purchasing for their younger relatives. Aren't we glad that SU! has such a diversity of designs to meet the interests and tastes of such a diverse clientele. Happy Stamping.

Kathy Hill -- you're a good lookin' 56 youngster; assuming that's an up to date picture :>) I'm heading toward 61 in Feb and love stamping. I only got into it 3-4 years ago and have managed to accumulate all sorts of things and am way ahead of those who have been stamping longer than I have. What fun. Let's keep it up.

Come on down to Cold (to me) Texas. It is beautiful, the sun sets across the lake behind a hill. I wish I could get the colors in a polished stone piece of background. I have a brother in Lakeville, a Minneaplois suburb, I got to visit him when I attended Convention 2000. I fell in love with Minneapolis.

The lake helps me stay "young". I swim almost everyday during the summer.

Default you're all making me smile.

When my MIL signed me on, my own mother said she wouldn't stamp much other than helping me on weekends w/ ideas for parties. Now, almost 2 yrs later, she stamps all of the time. She is 51. She IS my biggest customer, and my biggest recruiter. She is a teacher at a k-12 school and has really made all of her coworkers interested in stamping also. We just made ornaments, beaded pens, boxes and gift bags last night for her school gifts for classroom helpers, secretaries, and friends. It's such a great bonding experience and I'm sure we will do it for years. I myself am only 25, 26 dec. 27th. But as a mother of 3 (all 3 and younger) sometimes I feel older. But this brings me back to my own age and self. It lets me be ME and not just mom. Stamping is truly a great hobby for everyone and anyone, young and old, male and female!!!

It has been just great reading all of your comments. When I sent the original message I didn't think of myself as old, not at all! I just wondered if there were any older SCS on this site. Well, now I know and I don't feel so alone. I think we seniors are an untapped source for demonstrators. Many of us have time plus a little extra money to spend.

Merry Christmas, Wanda!!!! You made my day. Yes, it's a picture taken this year. The face may be okay.....just don't watch me walk with an arthritic hip or you would think I was about 80 or more....

Yeah for the wisdom and perspective of many years.....survival, too

Enjoy!!!!!!!!

You're never too old to stamp - it's a hobby that transcends generations. I am a young 'un... though not as young as some of the people reading the forums, but my mother stamps (60 years old), and my husbands grandmother stamps (85). She sells cards to raise money for the hospital that she does charity work for! I think it's awesome! She doesn't own a computer, or she'd be onto this site in an instant!

Default How old is too old?

I've been stamping for about 8 years now and I just recently turned 55. And I agree with you -- many of us "older" ones have a few more $$ to spend on fun things (like stamps) than we did when we were younger -- and (for some of us) way more time on our hands, too! I'd probably say the only down side to being older is that I can't stay up very late anymore, which is one of the reasons why I'm not a demo. (Ever notice how late those workshops can go??? And I'm usually one of the first to leave.) LOL.

Anyhow, I love the mix of ages on this site and the differences in talents and ideas it generates. Glad you posted this question -- I've enjoyed reading the comments. Thanks! Linda.

I'm 56 and feel it's never too old to enjoy stamping.

You know....looking at some of these avatars....I'd say stamping must be the common thread that keeps us looking younger too.

Default Too Old

Stampers have no age limit! I just turned 59, and am just now getting into it and am a demonstrator.
