I wouldn't be surprised if her people put that spin on paper crafting. I just thought that as someone relatively new to the paper crafting industry (meaning she hasn't previously sold paper crafting items), she should probably be more complimentary towards her consumer!! Or she should have her people be more complimentary! LOL!
just a quick FYI....I have had some of Martha' punches for years and have never had any problem with them....mine was a set of 4 punches each of a different type of leaf.....small punch area but very strong punch...

Well I have to admit, after I saw the review on Julie's blog I had to go over there yesterday to check her stuff out. I really like the ribbons and punches. I don't understand the extra large cardstock , I don't know how I would cut it. The papers are beautiful though, and overall I thought the product was really pretty, and the price was good.
Anyway, I purchased four spools of ribbon, a flower punch, and a black writing pen. I want to go back tomorrow, take even more time looking and get more. (I am so bad!)

I loooved the new Martha stuff, and the 18x18 album I'm sure is for newspaper clippings for all our sporting events! I for one can hardly wait to gather up my pennies to buy an item or two a week!
I was at M's today. All MS's stuff was there. I didn't buy anything this time, but I did like her stuff, especially the ribbon, punches and the bird stamps.
M's said that we won't be able to use the coupons for her stuff and it will never go on sale. So the price you see is the price you will always pay.

You know that's retail speak " I am telling you a big fat lie, because no one from corporate will give a straight answer." I worked for a prominent retailer for a long time....that's what we told our customers when we wanted to push new product. Then the product bombs...watch the prices go down.
Think about it...if her line stays with the same color palette, marketing and selection for too long, people will lose interest and will not buy. Martha is in it for the money...guaranteed...the patterns and colors will change with the seasons. I doubt the staples like punches, markers, tags, some ribbons, and glitter will remain consistant. Be patient...Martha is not above a markdown.

I really liked a lot of the MS stuff. The ribbon I thought was a good price and I loved the bird stamps. I think the 18x18 sb is pretty darn cool but I don't think it is something that I would buy myself. Overall I was pretty impressed.

I purchased two punches ( a flower and a "seal") They are VERY nice. I also got a set of clear stamps (an alphabet) I think the prices were good on all of them. I LOVE all of the little boxes, bags etc. Those kinds of things are hard to find (hopefully Michaels will keep up the stocking...but I won't hold my breath) I would definately purchase more of the Martha line. It is very nice. I don't know what all of the negative is on her line...did I miss something?

Blue_Gal, just a lot of bitterness. Apparently some people think a 10% markup on a brand-new line is the only way to do business. In the retail industry, a company running on 10% markup is not going to survive, regardless of how many items they sell.
I guess the pricing should have been 40% higher and then people could use their goofy coupons. It might stop the whining and the abuse the poor Michael's employees are taking.
I thought Martha's products were nice too. I think the price is reasonable as well. I purchased two punches, ribbon, and twine. If I cannot use the 40% coupon that is OK, I think the product is worth it. You pay just as much if not more for SU product, I think some of her products are comparable in quality.

i just got back for the store and wow Martha! I love the huge albums! The paper is sized to fit that's why they are so big. It's the size of a school desk. i can't wait to start seeing the sketches that come out for that thing.
I have most of those glitter colors so i don't need to buy all her special browns and such. I really do like everything.
I do understand the pricing issue both ways. And I'm sure they will be on special soon enough. NSB day is coming and you know her line had to coe out in time to hit us in the pocket book. She even has rolls of vellum and paper.
If you have checked it out it is worth the jaunt through the isle.
I had to see it for myself, so I drug the kids out earlier this morning. I didn't think anything was ridiculously priced (well, except for those ginormous albums), but I honestly was a bit disappointed in the offerings. The punches were smaller than I had envisioned, and I didn't care for the style of the drawn stamps. I did snag a single spool of ribbon though - I do like that the package is square at the bottom so it will stand on its own!
I may go back for more when it's marked down later.
Ta da! I tried the glue pens and they are SPECTACULAR!!! They are precise, easy to work with and not messy. Plus, the glitter is extra fine so it looks nice instead of ...well...tacky. Love it!
I went to Mike's last night and dumped $124 bucks on ribbon, glitter, glitter glue, glue pen, all purpose glue, an acrylic block and handle, punches, and patterned paper. This stuff is very high quality and I love it all.

Good for you Sarah!! I think I am going to buy the ribbon boxes. I keep thinking about them and they work perfect in my craft room.
Did you know there's another new Bella coming out?
Have fun with your new stuff!!

I bought a couple of things, I love the 12x12 paper pack called Bandana. It has 24 sheets of paper 2 of each color of bandana looking paper. I also got a paper punch that is a tear drop and a roll of ribbon. Some prices werent too bad but most of the stuff isnt my style.

Hey girls I was reading another thread about this Martha stuff and some ladies from Japan were wondering if it was exclusive to Mike's ( they don't have any in Japan) and I did a little surfing the net and found a web page called www.marthastewartcrafts.com and it had some scappin stuff on it. I live about 2 hours from a Mike's so I haven't saw any of the things in the stores and I was wondering if this is the same stuff.
The punches look cute and the narrow ribbon is pretty, some of it looks a little to elegant for my kids scap books, which is what I am heavy into right now. I think it would be very pretty for a wedding scapbook or something formal. Most of the prices didn't look to bad except for the big 18 x 18 album that was $80....holy cow....that is a lot of cash for a blank book.
I am sure when I get to Mike's sometime hopefully soon, I will have to pick up a few things..I have an addiction to ribbon so I am sure I will find some that I have to have.....I really like the design of the ribbon spool, it sits by itself without rolling away, very nice since my ribbon storage rod is kinda full

And I totally respect the fact that her stuff is not your style...that's why I think she will shake things up every now and then...this is just a test run...I also think Martha lives in a dream world that everyone can live her life on a shoe string budget compared to hers.

I popped in for a look and nothing grabbed my eye as must-haves, but the papers were really nice. I also liked the look of the rolls of vellum wrapping paper - very soft and pretty. If I were doing a large number of favours or something where I wanted it all to look nice, I would get some. I really liked the look of the glitter - amazingly beautiful colours and nice big bottles of it. I managed to restrain self, not sure how. Will probably break down at some point and get some glitter. It's just too pretty not to.
I asked about the gloves at my Michael's and they told me they only had to wear them to put up the sign because it scratches easily. They also told me that coupons and sales will be allowed after the first year.
I *gulp* got two punches...cornflower and another flower that looks like cornflower I forgot the name... I also got one of Brenda Walton's clear stamp sets. The Garden set, one of the flowers from that set matches the cornflower punch!

Yikes! You went to town girl! Good for you!!! I have found that the few things I have bought are better quality than most. I still love SU materials more so than MS but I don't have any other stores except Mikes so I'm happy that they included Martha's line and updated everything else to include K and Co, etc. I don't find it anymore expensive than plopping down $$$ on SU stuff.

I did it...bought the glitter...
granted I don't NEED anymore glitter. Miabel, I blame you...wait I made you the "lab rat" didn't I?
VERY SAD ABOUT THE RIBBON BOXES!!! My SU GROGRAIN won't fit. I took a spool with me before I purchased. I am sending my disappointment to Martha I think...we'll see what happens. ;)
Have a great weekend all!

Well I've been to Mike's twice so far to check out the Martha line -- I've bought stuff both time and I think I might head over there again today to get that punch I resisted last trip. Compared to all my local scrap stores I think the prices are right in line (regardless of the coupon thing). Lots of beautiful colors, very elegant and clean -- nothing *cutesy* which I think is great. I'm loving the punches -- especially that they stand where I put 'em -- wish all my lever punches did that!
Hmmmm, brown glitter . . . guess I need to check out the glitter!
Is the 18x18 paper sturdy? It must be if it is made for an 18x18 scrapbook. I think this large size of paper would open up some possibilities for making the fancy pocket folded wedding invite cards everyone seems to want to make these days.
I had to go to petsmart yesterday so I popped next door to Mike's to see the new MS stuff. I loved it. Although, most of it is stuff that I would buy with specific projects in mind. Of course, I've been spoiled by the coupons but I didn't think the prices were all that bad, especially if you are buying for a specific project. There is a lot of stuff that you will not find from other lines, which I love. I think it will be perfect for those times when I want something a little bit nicer than usual, to really take it to the next level.
The 18" scrapbooks are expensive but they are definitely "occassion" books. I think it would be perfect to use for a wedding or 50th anniversay, when you want something extra special, and when a few people are chipping in. I like the food packaging, as a pastry chef/chocolatier, I am always looking for that kind of stuff. I also love the bird stamps! These are what I would consider "luxury items," so I probably will not be buying a lot of it. I will definitely treat myself if I get a gift card for mothers day!

That one's called the Cosmo. I held both in my hand, weighing which one to get . . . I went for the cornflower, but, will prolly get the cosmo one eventually, too.
Criminy--the day Martha launched her site, I went back and ordered the starburst, rose leaf and classic butterfly punches . . . *chuckle*

The price of the twill is hard to beat, and its nice soft stuff. I couldnt help it everything was so pretty and shiny. Who am I kidding Im just weak.
I popped in to Michaels to see Martha's stuff. I was quite excited because - even if she is not a very nice person (I thought I liked her before her show aired) - I do believe that her "team" has great ideas and distinct taste in colors, etc. I was kinda dissapointed :-( The stuff was all out (no white gloves in site) but I couldn't find anything that I would actually buy. Now, I didn't look really close at the paper -- but I was not really impressed by the stamps (lots of similar and nicer ones in SU and the other current companies) and the punches were quite small -- nothing really big enough to do much with....
Sorry to all those who did purchase some of her stuff, I guess her style of stamping stuff just doesn't fit with mine. I did, however, like her display boxes -- I thought they were a great idea.
