YAY! I just got an email about it! Here's what the email said:
"Clear mounted Stamps- Not acrylic stamps, still the same awesome rubber we love but now you have the option to get most new stamp sets in the tradional rubber/wood mounted or you can get them without the block for cheaper and then use them on our new clear blocks."
So it appears that SU is finally going to offer us the option of wood blocks or no wood blocks. So now I won't have to pay for wood blocks that I don't use.
Best of both worlds, IMO.

April Thanks for the information. I have one stamp that is Clear Rubber. And I think it's wonderful.
It's deeply etched just like the Rubber is now that SU uses.
So do you think they will drop the wood mounted stamps all together?
I know when I started demoing for The Angel Company. We had wood mounted and unmounted Stamps.
Soon they started selling just unmounted Rubber stamps.

From what I understand, they'll be red rubber not clear rubber so they won't be all that different than the die-cut stamps we get now (except I think there may be an image sticker that can go on the back). It's just that we won't have to pay for the blocks if we don't want to and they've come up with a way for the rubber to stick to the clear block so I won't have to buy cling mount stuff anymore. I've not liked 'wasting' the blocks every time I ordered SU stamps.
Because so many people still love wood mounted stamps and SU seems to listen to their customers, (although this has been a long time coming, hey, they listened lol!) I would be surprised if they cut out the block option. I hope they don't because I don't want those who love wood mounted to be sad, so like I said, this option is the best of both worlds. :-) I've not bought a lot of stamps from them lately so it'll be interesting to see the new stuff.
How on earth is that going to work with the catalog running through July? Are they going to phase it in with minis until they issue a new main catalog?
For now (well, beginning with the new mini/sab catalogs in January) it'll be the new stamps as they are introduced. Beyond that, whether they'll go retroactive with older sets, I don't think they've said. I'm just so pleased at this that I can wait for more details.
The stamps themselves will still be red rubber, yes...it's the mounts that will be clear. But the stamps for the clear mounts will be more closely trimmed than the normal die-cut woodmounted stamps to facilitate placement. Then the label is provided as an option for those that want to put it on the backside of the stamp for even greater control.
Wow. I often held my hand up in the vibrant discussions on this board and said I have had no interest in SU because I like unmounted options and gotten blasted for saying that even as recently as the IDA discussions. It was explained to me in detail why this would be a non-starter for SU.
Might have to give them a look in the future... GinaK just got all my stamp money for the foreseeable future yesterday!!!
what fantastic news! I am thrilled to death! Now I don't have to feel guilty about buying and then not using the wood! I hope the UM version is cheaper too! YAHOO for SU for going green!

Yes the unmounted stamps are less.

Actually they have always been a really green company. They've even won awards for their headquarters' green design. All the wood mounts came from sustainable-practice tree farms and all the rubber is recycled. So, no worries there, if you still like wood mounts!

I am SO stinkin' excited about this!!! Yay for better storage and clean crisp images still! I think this is going to help my storage issues alot as my stamp "hankering" is not going away anytime soon, lol. My sister has been cling mounting her SU! sets for years and will be thrilled to hear the news! Even my husband was impressed when I told him about it. Which, he humours me in my excitement over stamping and scrapping but when I pointe dout the storage benefit, he was allllll smiles.
I am very happy to hear that, too! You figure they already send you the rubber and blocks seperately, makes sense to offer the stamps without the wood blocks all together.
I was a very stingy SU customer specifically because I just don't have room for wood mounted stamps, now I can change that!:-D
I wonder what kind of storage they will be using for the cling rubber, doesn't make sense to use the clamshell boxes for them. Although I will continue using CD cases...

I know that The Angel Company still sends out the Unmounted Rubber stamps in Clam Shell boxes. Which I kinda think is silly.
Since I store all of my Unmounted Rubber stamps inside 3 Ringed Zippered Notebooks (on White Plastic Storage boards.) I can only find so much to do with those Clam shells.
They will use DVD sized cases with artwork on the front (100% size) and spine (thumbnails). If a set doesn't fit in one case, they will come in two cases and be labeled 1 of 2, 2 of 2, etc.

I would be very sad if there wasn't a wood mount option. I like to stamp and go. I don't like fooling with taking the stamp off the storage case, mounting it on the block, cleaning it and taking it back off, etc. I think it's really great for everyone who loves unmounted. I'm surprised they did it now, part way through the year but I think it's a SMART move for SU. I just love when I see a few LOVERS of wood mounted!

The moderators ask that anyone in search of a demonstrator contact the company directly. For SU, go to www.stampinup.com and you can locate 10 demonstrators near you. Demos can order the minis starting Dec 1 and start sending them out. It cannot be posted it online until Jan 5.
(Do you think they might redesign their stamp pads? Maybe too much to ask all at once?)

Hmmm... I am wondering how these labels will affect the cling mount. I know Hero Arts has recently gone to cling but the image is already on the cling side of the stamp. Wouldn't a sticker/label cover up the cling mount?

Could be double sided. One side to stick to the stamp, one side to cling.
The stamps are regular red rubber. It's the mounts - the blocks - that are clear. The back of the stamp will have vinyl adhered to it that will cling to the clear block. This allows for much more compact storage of stamp sets, since there's no wood blocks to deal with. You just have one set of blocks and interchange the stamps as needed.
There is no such thing as clear 'rubber' stamps. Clear stamps are not made of rubber. There are rubber stamps mounted on cling backing to be used with an acrylic block or rubber stamps mounted a foam backing and a wood mount, or there are rubber stamps that are unmounted. I like they way CTMH's clear stamps are packaged in a nice frosted envelope with a snap closure. I really wish SU would use this method as it takes up less space but still keeps things organized. SU would have to make the envelope a little thicker to account for the rubber being slightly thicker than clear stamps. I have purchased just the envelopes from CTMH for some clear sets I own; like PTI. I don't like CD cases because I always seem to break them. I guess I'm a klutz.
This is such great news! I've just finished unmounting my old SU sets and what a job...but...so much more shelf space!

WOW!!! now that really is good news. I love unmounted stamps. I don't mount my SU when I get them anyway. Now I won't have some many pieces of wood to try to get rid of. LOL I love that it will be an optional thing. The best of both worlds...........
