I love it when a gift you make is really appreciated!
I just got home from Christmas with my family and I am so excited I thought I would share. I made my dad a calendar filled with pictures of my daughter and my sister's two girls (dad's only grandchildren).
He loved it so much it made him cry! That sure made the three weeks and all those long hours I worked on it worth it.
Way to go!! I am sure he will cherish everytime he looks at it, not only because it is filled with his grandchildren but because you took the time to make it yourself! The best gift!!
Last year I made my dad an easel calendar with the boys pictures on every page. It ended up in the living room, not his office. I had purposefully searched high and low to find a cherry stained easel to match his desk, but mom said she wanted everyone to see it so she hijacked it and put it by the entry.
Very primitive, but I had only been stamping a few months and it was before I found SU and SCS!
That is so nice. I made my mom and his parents a bunch of cards (kids bday, adult bday, thank you, and some Chrismas ones for next year) I can't wait to see their reaction when they open them!!
I know the one present that made me cry was when my daughter was 6. My mother had found a printed poem I'm sure many of you have seen... it says something about how even though I make messes and all that, here are my handprints so that when I grow up, you will remember how little I was. They inked up Kym's little hands, put her prints on the paper, and then had to use the hair dryer to get it dry fast enough to frame it! lol THEN... they couldn't get the ink off her hands! lol They were madly scrubbing her poor little mitts so that I wouldn't see any traces of the ink and question it. lol Finally, they got it wrapped. It was Christmas Eve, and we had a tradition of opening one present on Christmas Eve. Well, of course, they insisted that was the one I open. So they barely got it wrapped and then had me unwrap it. Well, I was immediately a little puddle of tears. In fact, they've come to me again, just writing this. I can totally relate to your father's reaction to the calendar. Nothing like pictures of your kids/grandkids to get the emotions going. Never have enough of those!

That is so awesome! I made my father a scrapbook full of him and my three daughters (his only grandkids) for his bday back in november...I loved that I was able to make a grown man cry!
My parents made the same type of handprints/messy framed poem with my two oldest daughters too a few years back...boy did I cry, so I know what you mean!
I'm going to try and resort back to the homemade gifts for birthdays this year....they mean so much more really!
