I need to make a card for my daughters MIL who has cancer and may or may not make it home from the hospital. I don't think a Get Well Soon card will work but Thinking Of You doesn't quite do it for me either. Maybe someone here has been in this situation and could lend some help. I'd sure appreciate it.

"Thinking of you" seems appropriate or "because I care." Maybe you don't need a sentiment at all, just a beautiful card and a heartfelt personal message.
It's a difficult situation. Just knowing someone cares is enough.

Art is intended to provoke an emotion from a total stranger. If youve succeeded in this, consider yourself an artist. Paper Shanks Blog. Love me or hate me, you are still talking about me
I have made cards that says, "keeping you in my prayers" ...I have a saying also that I use alot for these circumstances that says " may the Lord bless you today in a very special way"
SU's All Year Cheer I set has a stamps that say From the Heart, for you, Hugs and Kisses, Warmest Wishes, Thinking of You and with the All About U set you can make Bless U, Words of Wisdom has a couple of good phrases also.
What about just a beautiful floral upbeat kind of card with no sentiment at all. Maybe some pretty ribbon, embellishments, etc. And then just write inside of it for instance...We love you or Our thoughts are with you!

I agree with this wholeheartedly especially since you don't know whether she'll even be able to go home. Just the receipt of the card will show her how much she is thought of and each cancer patient deals with their situation in their own way.
I just made a card for my Aunt who is going through Chemo right now due to Breast Cancer. I used the SU Hope Is set because I just love the saying about "Hope Is ...... a brighter tomorrow". I think that we can always have hope. There have been many, mighty miracles brought about by Faith and Hope. I also used Pixie Pink & Black. A very pretty card but I didn't take a pic of it before I sent it.
How about Words of Wisdom (page 179)? Maybe just a floral, decorative cardfront with one of these sentiment on the inside? There's a few good ones there. And sometimes, especially when I need to make cards in Spanish, I simply make a nice cardfront, hijack a sentiment from Hallmark.com and print it up on my computer! ;) HTH and prayers for your daughter's MIL.
I have one from Endless Creations that says "Kind words to comfort you, peace to quiet you, care to encourage you, one day at a time" or they have another that says "caring about how you are doing and thinking about you often".
I made cards for an aunt with terminal cancer, and had the same dilemma. I alternated between sending her humorous cards (everyone needs a laugh) and "warm wishes/hugs" types of cards.
I don't think the message is as important as the thought. I'm sure she will appreciate any card you send her.
