I have a few hostess $'s to spend and I need to decide. Can anyone steer me in the right direction, or will this cause a huge debate? lol. Also, I want to thank everyone for their generous help. Every ? I have asked has rec'd many useful and helpful answers. Thank you!
I would vote for the pencils....I love watercolor pencils, but maybe that's just because I don't have any crayons....I have to borrow them from my mom (we share a lot of supplies because that makes it easier to justify the purchase) when I need them for something.
I had the watercolor crayons and pretty much only used them by picking up color directly off the crayons with the aquapainter.
I recently got the watercolor pencils and totally LOVE them!! It is so easy to blend and I feel like I have more control. I use watercolor paper and the aquapainter. I kept one of my sets of watercolor crayons just in case I find some inspiration or hit on a technique that I love with them - but sold the others once I got my watercolor pencils!
I hope that helps... I'd also love to hear what others like about the watercolor crayons ;)
ETA: I just saw the other replies and I'm off to see if there are samples in their galleries!! Thanks for asking the question!
WC pencils, the crayons are too big to color with, they are more difficult to use than I thought. My two customers find it easier to use watercoloring pencils but wish there were different colors. I would go with pencils. Markers are my True favorites.
Well, shoot. If I'm already getting the markers in my order, does it make sense for me to get the crayons, too? Or is that like having duplicates for no reason?

both the markers and the crayons are wonderful in their own way...they will each give you different looks. I love watercolouring, it's so forgiving. I also like the markers for colouring on my stamps and for writing with. The WWC are great...they are what I grab if I am going away and want to bring something along to work on...compact...all the colours...LOVE them! I have tried the pencils and they are horrible.

My demo says she loves the crayons, so after I have purchased all the ink refills (buying a family each month) I plan on buying all the crayons (one family a month). I have water color pencils (not SU) and I have prismacolor pencils, so I figured that I should get the crayons so that I can have a variety to chose from when I color.
crayons hands down. the greens in the pencils dont match su colors. and i love SU! celery and artichoke! youll love them. you can use them directly on the stamps, or to color, or take a wet paint brush to them to get color, many more possibilities with the crayons.

Yes, it makes sense to get both. They will give you very different effects.
We don't have the SU watercolour pencils here yet, but the crayons are fantastic.
You can take colour off the crayon
You can scribble on the lid, mix colours and use, either to colour or as a type of ink pad
You can use a spritzer technique on a shiny surface, take glossy paper and create unique backgrounds that you can co-ordinate with your coloured images.
Give Thanks - crayons - great set, retiring, for coloring in!
City of David - pencils - when I stamp in bulk (ie, Christmas cards - I do think that the pencils with a blender pen are the fastest option. Becuase I chose only vanilla cardstock - matching the colors wasn't a problem)
hope that helps. You will love whatever you get, just practice with them first!

I don't have the pencils but I do use Prisma Pencils and love them........but I have the crayons and love them also. They give a really great water color effect. And you can lift the color right off the crayon. Crayons are more versatile. Good luck
Crayons! They are more versatile. Pencils - just coloring paper and adding water... Crayons - color images directly and add water. Color on stamp and spritz. Use aqua painter and pull from crayon. Those are just a few = I'm sure others have other ways!

Wow! You gals have given me some great info! I can't wait to try the crayons! Cheris, thanks for the pix, they're lovely! Thank you everyone for your insight and invaluable help!
I have the pencils and love those, but after reading all the comments about the crayons, I made need to find a Miami demo to see what I'm missing! LOL!
And samples I'm seeing done with crayon are divine!

I have all four of the color families in the watercolor crayons, plus the neutrals. I use the crayons to color about 95% of the time along with a blender pen. I have tons of samples in my gallery for more ideas. The other 5% of the time, I use regular Crayola Colored pencils ($7.88 at Wal-Mart for 50 colors) only because the images are smaller so they are easier to color in the fine details.
The crayons will cost you more than the watercolor pencils but there are more color choices that coordinate with all SU products. I have those too, I got them new on Ebay for $12 so I couldn't resist. I love having several options to color since that is my favorite thing to do.
Wow! I love the samples shown ~ and now I'm going to have to play a bunch more with my crayons!!
I think it was the OP who mentioned she's getting markers so should she even get crayons or pencils ~~ ABSOLUTELY LOL ;) !! Markers are just a necessity after all - heehee!! Try the SU markers on w/c paper with the aquapainter ... totally fab!! Here's the first one I tried that way.
