Under the dicussion about what you want to see in the new catalogs, there was this comment:
Go back to the old ink pads as many of us hate the new ones
I was thinking about taking the plunge and buying all of them with my first order after becoming a demonstrator when I get 30% off. Is that not wise, should I wait? I don't have any means of comparison to old inks but if the company got lots of complaints and they are changed in the new catty, maybe I should wait????
Honestly, I have not heard many complaints about the new pads. The biggest complaint is learning how to open the new pads but once you get that down there is no problem. I doubt the pads will change anytime soon. Bonnie
I would (and did) take the plunge and purchased all of them. I have NO regrets. I love the new style pads and wouldn't change one thing about them. I really disliked the old style.
the only complaints i've heard is that with the new style pads, there is sometimes a dip in the center so it doesn't ink large stamps as well. not all of the pads do this and it isn't even limited to certain colors. i think it was here that i saw someone mention they thought the dip was due to a lack of support for the pad and folding cardstock under it (between the bottom piece and the top piece) as you open it solved the problem.
i have a combo of the new and old style pads. personally, no real preference. i love the size of the new ones and that they fold over onto themselves but some of mine do dip. the old pads don't dip, but they are smaller and you have that pesky lid to deal with.
I have never used the old pads, so I can't compare, but I did get to use one of the old craft pads and it was yucky, I like the newer ones. I have been working towards getting all the big pads. I have the Rich Regals and I earned the Bold Brights for free at my last party. I am also becoming a demo so I am getting the pads I don't have and I figure I will get the last bit with my discount too. Yup better get it on that first order with the wonderful 30% discount, because 30% is better than the 20% later on Gratz on becoming a demo!
If they changed the style of the pads again in the future, you should still be able to use what you had. They didn't make all demos replace them last time, did they?
(I wasn't a demo yet!)

I have heard that the new pads purchased right after the changover have problems dipping in the center. I purchased all of mine as soon as they changed. I have had problems with some of mine doing that, but DH cut squares of corrugated cardboard for me to slip inside the lid when open and it solves the problem.
I did read on here somewhere that the problem has been corrected since then.
Let me just say that in spite of this, I *love* the pads. They corrected all of the colors so that they match the paper and pens much better. The larger size is nice and the fact that they naturally store upside down. All in all they are a very good design.
You may want to consider buying the pads as a hostess order instead of a demo order because you get a better deal. You get your initial 20% back plus you get a hostess set and free hostess merchandise.
The only complaint that I have is that the center "dips" over time. There are sometimes that I have to go back and redo an image because of the dip in the center of the pad so it didn't ink the stamp. If you are a demo and they decide to change it, yes you would eventually have to buy the new style of pads, because people wouldn't be able to purchase the older ones. I don't think they would change the style unless they try to fix the small dip that some get in the center... I found the more I use the pad the more of a dip I get to them...
Wow, you guys are awesome. Pinkhedgehog - I would never have thought to turn in my ink order as a demo to get the other free stuff but how smart are you?!!!!

Pretty stinkin' smart!
I was a SU! demo until I had to resign because we moved overseas. I will sign up again as soon as we go back. I *never* bought stuff on a demo order because it didn't count toward sales, and you don't get hostess benefits. I found it always better to be my own hostess!
I love the new pads! My upline has some of the old ones and some of them have little dips too. I think it is from only inking in the middle of the pad. I was told to ink your stamp from different parts of the pad each time. Otherwise the corners will curl up and make it look like a dip in the middle.
I am in an SU club that has been around for 6 years. We took a survey (there are 17 of us in the group) and over 70% of our pads went bad. They sag horribly in the middle and they are also very prone to fraying. The company receives LOTS of complaints. I read on a number of stamp boards and it is often the topic of conversation there. One the GW board someone's husband has come up with a piece of something that you slide in to it to repair. It has been suggested that the company manufacture these and give them to customers. I purchased 10 of the new pads and within 6 months all of mine were unusable for the most part. You could barely ink a small stamp and in no way could do a large stamp. All but the 1/2" outer edge was sunk in. I do not press hard and ink my large stamps face up on the table. SU has been diluged with complaints and yet they don't respond. Many of us buy blank pads (brand is Commotion), that are identical to the original SU pads. We buy them at ATRS when they are on sale and then buy SU reinkers and make our own. Some tried to sell the new pads on the internet and had very little luck because the first thing people wanted to know was if they were saggy. The company offers no solution and has been absolutely unresponsive to e-mails. They also will not replace bad pads for customers according to our demo (she hates hers too). I love SU with the exception of this one major problem. If you go to the GW board someone there will post the design for the solution so you can get by with your old pads. It still does not help the fraying issue.
www.gingerstamp.com (it is also called Gingerwood). I don't know how to post links but this should get you there. There is a fantastic chatboard and a link list miles long.
My husband was on the web a few months back and found a company that sells stamp pads like the new ones from SU. The problem is he can't remember the address he was at or the name of the manufacturer. Has anyone else seen this on the web and if so could you post the address. I'd like to check it out for myself. I did call SU and they would not tell me the name of their manufacturer.
Thanks
inky-fingers
I have had most of my stamp pads since the new style came out and have NEVER had a problem. I also never rub the stamp on the pad as that pulls up the edges of the pad and makes them fray. Mine are still in great shape!

You don't get hostess benefits but it DOES count toward your sales to put in a demo order. The only thing that doesn't count for sales is a supply order.
I just got the new pads (my first COLOR inks EVER- how did I LIVE?) and I really like them - except opening them can be tricky... I expect I'll get the hang of it sooner or later. I like Aquapainting with them... that's FUN!
