Favorites at my workshops seem to have been sets of inspiration sheets and a coupon set, one for each of the next four months (coupons like "buy one of these, get this free", and that sort of thing.)

My demo usually uses the small incentive stamps for SU Workshop door prizes. Names and addresses (and interest in SU) are collected on a sheet of paper and then one is drawn.
For hostess appreciation parties (usually once a year) or other open houses at her home; she has ribbon, stamp pads or even smaller stamp sets - just depends
I have a basket for door prizes. I have included the following:
swaps that I no longer show (retired, not a full set, etc.)
retired alphadots (the paper circles) in groups of 25
other duplicate stamped objects--post it pad, stamped candles--left over
from stamp camps or demos
I used to use incentive stamps, but now try to only give those to hostesses.
one fun thing that my demo does is a lottery, each workshop guest who wants to play puts a dollar into the pot we each draw a number then usually the hostess picks the number that wins the pot. the winner then can pick extra stuff for her order. who wouldn't love that :!:

I went to my very first SU! party four years ago. I won the door prize and still remember what it was. It was 4 blank notecards with envelopes in a cello bag with 1/4 sponge(we'd used sponging techniques that day) laid on top tied with a bunch of raffia. It looked very nice and of course I bought things because I had to fill up those blank cards!

I'm not sure if there was more to the party but....it sure seems expensive to pay $15 for just 3 cards. I realize that each demo runs their workshops/parties differently. I would think that if I charged that much I would quickly lose my customers (or never get them to come in the first place).
I have parties (no cost to the attendees) where each person makes (and takes) at least 2 projects (usually one card and a gift bag, tile, post-it pad, etc...). I always give away at least one door prize (a gift related to the techniques I'm showing) and frequently give each guest a small incentive stamp. I also host workshops/stamp camps where customers come to my home and make 10 cards for $12. Everyone seems happy with the cost and cards they make.
I have been to many parties. I won a set of stamps the first party I went to and I won a package of earth elements paper the second party I went to. Now I have many stamps and have been stamping for about a year. We have had as door prizes:
Gift Bags
Magnets
Coasters
Our demonstrator is great. We always make about 5 or 6 cards and a project for $15.00. It is great!
I just filled up my door prize basket this past week! I put small cello bags with incentive stamps and nice toppers, and of course some hand stamped 4X6 notebooks. They love having a choice.

That's CANADIAN $15 for 3 cards, I am assuming, therefore, to we americans it would seem high . . . or am I mistaken?
Of course, I have a hard time justifying charging only $12 for folks to make 10 cards.
I'm thinking of having a stamp-a-stack, 10 cards for $20; receive $10 rebate back on an order place that day.
I also charge $15 for a 4 card class, but the cards are usually multi-layered, have embellishments. and I serve refreshments. A stamp store charged me $12 for a class to make ONE card . . . I couldn't believe we only made ONE card for $12. . . I was expecting at least 3 but not more than that, due to teaching time/preparation time, which I understand should be part of the price of a class. But, the instructor only stamped a square shadow stamp in checkerboard fashion on a kraft card, then stamped the leaf, cut it out and set it to the card with an eyelet. We were all expected to duplicate that card. I think she spoke to us for all of 5 min. We made the card in 5 min. Class was over. And there weren't any refreshments, either!

My local stamp store charges $15 to make 3 cards--the teacher presents 3 different techniques (dry embossing, UTEE, stencils, embossing paste, etc) It sounded great to me back when I didn't know about Stampin Up demonstrators
I agree - $15 for 3 cards is a LOT! I charge $10 for my Stamp Camps where we make four projects, but there is usually only one card! The rest are more labor and cost intensive. Then $5 of the price is refunded with an order that night. Then for my Stamp-A-Stacks I only charge $20 for 20 cards.

Gee, I am feeling pretty lucky here! My demo charges $5 for 5 cards, including envelopes (which aren't SU, I don't believe!) Sometimes you get to do a scrapbook page, too. She usually doesn't include a 12 X 12 page, though! For 10 cards she charges $12, but they usually have some embellishments to them, like ribbons and eyelets. You can have just a regular party and make one card or project for free and she demos two other project that the hostess gets to keep, but no one else does! I am in a stamp club and I get to chose between all of these type of workshops for my hostess month. I definitely wouldn't pay $15 for only three cards! I probably would pay more than $5 for 5 cards, though!
I guess I got off the subject! My demo sometimes gives leftover sell-a-bration or extra hostess sets (split up) for door prizes. She gives incentive stamps, glitter in small amounts, stampin spots, ribbon lengths, eyelets (a package of 10 star eyelets just made me order the whole amount!), ink pads on special occasions, cardstock selections (usually this is cut in half to make cards, random assortments), post-it note pads in decorated holders, etc. etc. Usually she gives 3 or 4 of these through out the evening, depending on how many attend the workshop.
Thanks for the input, ladies! I'm doing a fundraiser and want to give away door prizes, but I don't want to give away the farm, so to speak. I won't be making any money off of this, so I want to get people stamping around here!
I don't do door prizes at my workshops. I do totally hands on and we make three cards. Right now since I am concentrating on Christmas Cards one that I have been doing is with a Snowman and letting them use the Applique. I normally have ribbon on at least one card and since I give them envelopes for the cards I feel that is enough.
I usually give a free classic ink pad of the winners choice.
This way they can pick out what ever color they want and I can add the total of the pad to the hostess' total
a win win.
My stamp camps are $10. And we have numreous projects. Really if you are a new demonstrator $10 a person doesn't seem to cover your costs and work effort(because you are trying to build your collection and usually have to order things for the stamp camp) for a stamp camp, but as I get more and more stabalized in my business the $10 goes alot further! I would have a hard time charging too much more then the $10 because my goal is to build my customer base and then have them book a party or make an order at the stamp camp.
My customers love my stamp camps! And I always give some type of doorprize like the ones that have been mentioned. Because door prizes are just fun for everyone...we usually play a game to get the doorprize.
This past workshop the doorprizes were dominoe Christmas ornaments packaged in the clear envelopes with a tag. THEY LOVE THEM. Plus my customers like to get 12x12 Layouts. So If I make a layout...sometimes I will make a duplicate to give away.

Yes, that's Cdn$15...which according to xe.com, is US$12.30. I didn't realize that was expensive! :oops: She did provide all the supplies though, or is that standard? I had a good time anyway. Maybe she meant to have door prizes, she was a bit disorganized, she didn't even know about the 2005 calendar promotion, I had to bring it up. But these stamp camps sound interesting. I will have to ask around (maybe a different demo! ;)).
Every demonstration/workshop I do is totally hands-on, 3-4 projects, at no cost to the participants. I did charge $3 per person once (in advance), more to insure that if I travelled 7 hours to do the workshop that people who said they were interested would actually show up. We do basic techniques, but will occasionally add an embellishment, such as a ribbon, or put a treat in a package we make from a pattern, so it is a ready-made gift. I realize it's easier once you've built up your supplies, but I've only been a demonstrator since March and this has been my practice from the very beginning. I do offer a door-prize, not because I think they need something else, or that they aren't going home with enough, but so that I will have their contact information for follow-up from the forms they fill out to register for the door prize! Think about it, though, a card with 2 additional layers costs me less than 25 cents. Many are less than that. Sometimes one project will be a bookmark--about 5 or 6 cents, or less, even. For people that have never stamped, actually DOING it is the key. And if I gain a new perpetual customer, what's an investment of less than a dollar? So that is not a burden, unless people say they will show up and then they don't. If they don't, and I have stuff pre-cut for projects, I use them later for one-on-one teaching opportunities, or adapt them a bit and make something different, or make them the same and some of those samples become my next door prize! (for which, like I said before, is for the contact info, not because they need something else!)

The hostess usually gets something nice from the demo though
