I want to make a very special journal for a special friend. I have alterered the compisition books before, I was wanting to get something just a tad bit smaller. If I could happen to find one that ran lengh-wise, I think I would really like that.
If you have a good source for journals that can be altered, I would love the info.
Thanks in advance.
I get my journals from the Michaels $1 section when they go on clearance (which they are right now). They come in a variety of sizes, so I just keep an eye out for what I like. However, I've never seen any there that were a horizontal orientation. (In fact, I don't think I've ever seen any, period.)
I love altering spiral notebooks. Those are my favorite. I find nice ones and various sizes at my grocery store, at Wal-Mart, and other places like that. You can also find them with the spiral at the top too so you have a wide variety to choose from. Have fun!

The best selection of blank journals is at Barnes & Nobles. There is a big variety of sizes and types of pages (blank, ruled, sketch, etc.) and the ultra-plain black or kraft ones for altering are very reasonably priced. What a nice gift!

I have a bunch of spiral notebooks that I found on clearance, and have altered a couple. I cut tiny slits in the DP on the spiral side, right beside each wire loop. Then I smoothed the paper around it. It looks pretty good, but do you have a better method of getting the paper around the spiral wires?

This is a slight thread jack but I did wonder if a Bind it All would do it? I don't have one but was wondering the other day when I was looking at my son's school agenda and it had bookmark that attached to the spirals of the agenda to keep it in place. If the Bind it All would work it would make a fun project to make bookmarks/placemarks for notebooks.
In a craft magazine ( I don't know the name) but it's one that's out now a women took a compostion notebook to Kinkos and had them cut it in half width wise. Then she altered it. Would that work for you?

Is there an opening to the coil? If so, you can do it just like the cheapo back-to-school spiral notebooks. I just open the coil, unthread the whole thing, punch new holes in the new cover with my Cropadile, and then rethread it.

That's a great idea - thanks!
