I make birthday cards for my mom every month. I've been doing this for a couple of months now, with limited stamps, and I'm running out of ideas for different cards (she likes them to all be pretty different). HELP!!
Becky
Here's a link to a birthday card I made using wire. I got the idea from a magazine--not sure which one. It used a different word stamp and used lined paper for the candles where I used the frame stamp (most any stamp could be used on them or none at all).
I've been stamping for quite a few years and just came up with this idea, can't believe I didn't think ot it before.!
I used a square punch to make a window in the card front; then I stamped my image on the inside of the back page. You can still stamp "Happy Birthday" on the front.
The other thing that I did recently was punch squares out of not-quite-right images and glued them to the front of the card. Then I glued a silk pansy
(because it was the right size) to the center front. A whole bush only cost me $1.99 at Michaels. Then I pulled the flower off and glued only the flower head and some leaves to the front.
Do you use any floral sets? These are more flexible than a regular birthday set.
Add embellishments to the cards. Eyelets, brads, etc. I have a friend that every card must have some glitter on it. She's really a glitter queen and I must say, sometimes a little glitter makes a huge difference.
Make a OSW. By making more of a collage card, you can make your sets go further.
Put vellum and the sentiment over the front. Go to versalog.com or other sites for sayings and print out from your computer.
Has your mom offered to buy you a set? I make cards for my mom. I don't charge her, but I get "donations" every so often for my supplies and my time.
I'm not familiar with swaps on this site, but maybe this is something you can join.
Do you have friends that are stampers? Can you swap sets for a week or maybe they can stamp off some images for you.
Have you checked the gallery for your set? That can open a whole world of ideas you never thought of.
Hope this helps...

I am addicted to glitter!! I just bought four more colors this weekend as a matter of fact. Over half of my cards have glitter. I like shiny stuff!!
My mom does actually buy stamps for me. Everytime she sees something at Hobby Lobby that she likes, she buys it. I am collecting the House Mouse designs, so she frequently picks up some of those.
I actually just got through making a card with a suggestion I was given on this site. I used wire to make birthday candles. I also used the shaving cream background paper after seeing the technique on this site!!! I love it. I now have pink and purple tye-dyed paper! It's the greatest.
I am trying to find ways to effectively use my Crystal Laquer (sp?). My girlfriend uses it on EVERYTHING, and I think it's kind of overkill...so I am trying to see where it looks good and where it doesn't. Any ideas for that?
I really suck with vellum...haven't quite gotten the hang of it yet. Just started using brads...I like them better than eyelets, which I am crazy for. I use those about as much as I use glitter.
Thanks for all the great ideas! If you have anymore, let me know!! I'll try to return the favor (if I can ever get my creative juices flowing...)
You should pm Jami with all of your info (ie. what stamps sets/color paper/inks/embellishments you have) and maybe she can make it one of her weekly "Limited Supply Challenges" and you'll get a ton of ideas! Check out her challenges:
There's nothing wrong with having limited stamps; it's quality, not quantity, which matters. ;)
I like to look at card sketches for ideas & inspirations. If you look in the Splitcoast Challenges you will find the Card Sketches sub-Forum.
(find it on your own like so: Splitcoaststampers > Stamping Stuff > Splitcoast Challenges > Card Sketches)
Thus far, there are 26 card sketches with links to what others have made!
*centers of flowers (add some tiny beads or glitter to it for added dimension)
*animal eyes (loved Cool Cat for that, especially)
*highlighting parts of a background stamp (such as coloring in the hearts in the Soft swirls stamp)
*use as a glue for glitter, especially if you want _lots_ of glitter to stick
That is one of the CUTEST cards I have ever seen. Great job!!!!

I make a ton of birthday cards too. You can check out my gallery if you'd like. I've found that even though I only have a few stamps, COLOR makes all the difference in the tone of the card. I like to look at the inspiration sheets for layout ideas-- most of the features are pretty basic ideas. Also, like others have suggested, find a stamping buddy and share supplies! The gallery on here is just monstrous-- you can get lost in it!! Look at the cards made with your stamp sets, then also do a search for birthday, masculine, feminine, etc. and you'll probably be overwhelmed with ideas! Good luck!
