Default Mailed my SU Demo paperwork today!

Just had to share the news with somebody!!! No one appreciates this like the ladies at SCS! I'm soooooo excited! I'm starting out slow, as I work a full time job and work part time in a scrapbook store (which I hope to let go of the part time job by the end of summer!) I've been a super loyal SU customer (boy my Demo loves me! LOL!) and thought I might as well dive right in! I've done a swap with some of you on here before, and am a huge fan of the postings in the gallery (as soon as I get a scanner, I'll upload mine!)... anyway, just wanted to express my sheer happiness of becoming an SU Demo and thank EVERYONE on here who is a Demo, as I think it was more y'all then my own Demo that made me want to do this!

I'm sure lots of you have done this very thing, so if you don't mind, let me know how it has worked for you: I want to do like a "Mother/Daughter" party and maybe even get them started as a "Hostess" type club once a month. Have any of you done the Mother/Daughter thing, and how well has it gone over? I really want to try out the "younger" crowd (along with regular aprties of course)... small parties for kids anywhere from age 10 on up. My niece can't wait for me to do this for her... her and her friends love crafts and no one has ever done anything like this for them.

What do y'all think??? Any ideas/suggestions/warnings would be great!!

Hugs to all!!!!!

Congratulation, Nannette! I mailed mine in on Friday. Starting tomorrow, I'll be calling SU to see if I can get my number. I really want to get on the web-site and start playing around there while I'm waiting for my kit.

It's gonna be a looooong week.

Best wishes to you!

I did a Mother/Daughter scrapbook class at Adult Ed and they loved it! I used a Simply Scrappin set and also showed them how to use stamps and punches to make borders and journal boxes. How to put their photos and embellishments and decorate their pages. Girls were around 8-10 years of age.

In addition to some materials from the Simply Scrappin sets (some of the diecuts/borders and some of the cardstock -- split up each kit amongst several people), I used some stamp sets (Girlfriends set at the time) and Fresh FLowers -- I bought the Frames and Tags set on page 217 in the US white so was able to stamp both and use for the pages. They loved that also. The girls liked the punches and like the stamping. They liked to use themarkers too to color in stuff. I think we used some ribbon or hemp, I can't recall what was used for the tags. They loved doing the eyelets! We used the banging hammer technique, that seemed to be a hit, no pun intended.

For cards I would imagine moms/daughters would love this also! My 4 yo uses glitter at school, I can only imagine that the kids would love this also!

Have fun! I put together kits for the class, that seemed to work for the situation -- charging $5 for the kit and then they paid $8 for me to teach the class, You may want to charge more/less depending.

Congratulations and glad to see you joining the SU! family. I do a few Mother/Daughter stamp classes a couple times a year. They are always a big hit. I started with moms with kids that ranged from ages 5-10. We made ceramic tile magnets and a card and covered a notepad and stamp it. They all had such a good time and have asked me when the next one is coming up.
I love stamping with kids they're so fun. I do stamp classes at the school where I work. I did a huge stamp class just before Christmas with 124 5th graders and 5 teachers, they made ceramic tile pins and cards and just last week did a class with 24 3rd graders and two teachers, they made domino pins. I have another one planned in a month, but I don't know what we're doing yet.
Kids don't hold back....they stamp whatever they can. It's nice to learn from them for a change.

Congratulations! I am NOT a demo, but am considering the plunge! Haven't talked my DH into it yet, he really has no idea what I have already spent on SU! (And I am afraid I would have to disclose this to him to become a demo, LOL!)

My 10 year old daughter wanted to have a mother-daughter stamping party and another Mom and I took the plunge and planned it all ourselves, and invited my demo (who has two girls), too! That way she didn't have to do all the work this time! We had the projects already ready to go and the kids could pick what they wanted to do.

I suggest always having some kind of bag to decorate for the kids to put their creations in, like wheeling a paper lunch sack, for instance! At my daughters' party, the kids could make a couple of cards (one general/birthday and one Father's Day card as it was in early June), a bookmark, a candy bag topper, and homemade candy (my demo has her kids make frosted sugar cookies at her parties!) We had them melt chocolate and put it in those Wilton candy molds, then put in freezer and they firmed up pretty quickly. They put these in their candy topper bags. They loved this! You can just provide candy for the bags, too. I find that most kids want to do something around food at stamping parties, though!

You can make a shrink plastic bracelet or necklace, post-it note holders, ornaments, note cubes and pens. I personally wouldn't do the tiles, what kids really care about having them? Maybe they could give them away as a gift? Any kind of box or bag would delight them to decorate as well! I also had my kids stamp gift tags at Christmas and they loved that, quick and simple! If you stamp some kid friendly images ahead of time, the kids could color them in and make their own cards. Be very flexible, though, they want to do the cards their own way!

If you are very particular about your stamps, don't let the kids use any but the already stained ones! I DON'T recommend spectrum/kaleidacolor pads, either, they just don't get it unless you stand right there and help them with them! I often use a kids' water soluable black ink pad, too and leave my nice permanent ink ones tucked away out of sight! That black ink is so hard to get off of stamps, wood, my coffee table, you get the idea! Make sure you mention to the Moms that their kids should wear clothing they don't mind getting ink on. I use the older style pads for my kids' parties, my daughter loves that they are the grown up style and not the kids pads, but the latter are much easier to get out of clothing, so I understand!

Good luck to you and have fun!

Wow Laurie, thanks for the tips! And thanks to everyone else for their encouragement. To those of you who have also signed up, I hope we all do great, but most importantly, keep having fun doing it. Hubby already knows what I was spending on SU with my Demo, so it was EASY to talk him into being one. (He hunts and fishes, so he knows hobbies can get pricey... hehehehe)

I do have a question for the Demo's out there... In all honesty, were you TOTALLY happy when you had your customers sign up to be a Demo under you? I mean, like the ones who spend ALOT of money with you? My Demo's being supportive, but she's not near as cheerful as she usually is when I'm placing an order. Does that sound right?

I may be reading her wrong (although I know her VERY well... she's one of my best friends), I just get the feeling she's going to miss the direct sale coming from me. Has anyone else felt/experienced this??

TIA & Hugs to all!
