I am sending stamp sets to someone & she told me to send them media mail to save $$, the lady at the post office said stamp sets couldn't be media mail...anyone have experience with this ???
as far as i know, media mail is for magazines, books, cds and such. Stamp sets would not be media mail....i think. I may be wrong, but i am sure someone knows more!
Nope, they don't qualify...I mail stamps all the time. The best you could do is parcel post, but half the time or more, first class and priority mail are only pennies apart.
not that it really matters for the point of this post, but media mail is limited to books, film, manuscripts, sound recordings, video tapes, and computer media but can't contain advertisements.
I got schooled at the post office when I mailed a softback book that the worker thought might be a magazine due to its size, like I was trying to swindle them.
Any package of value is best sent priority with delivery confirmation and/or insurance because you never know when the post office will lose something!
I bubble wrap them and put them in a Priority mail box and off they go. I've sent quite a few this way. And like someone else said, usually the diff. between Priority Mail and parcel isn't much!
Here at the post office and at the grocery stores that have postal service, you have to leave any envelope going media mail open for them to look at before you can send it via media mail. You also cannot include any sort of personal correspondence. I sent a catalog and had a sticky note on it that said Thanks! and the post office said I couldn't mail it media mail with the "correspondence" but if I remove it it was a book so that is ok. My friend got grilled for mailing old catalogs, the lady told her it was soliciting and that can't go media mail. She sold them on ebay and informed the postal lady that it was against her contract with SU! to solicit this way and she is just mailing the catalog not trying to get any business from the person that bought it. So you have to follow all the rules to the tiniest detail, they must have people abusing it since it is cheapest.
I just use padded envelopes and send them. Usually first class is only a few cents cheaper than Priority and Priority will get there faster!! A day faster at least!!
i would charge at least $5 for shipping for that big of a set. smaller ones, you can get by with $3.95. but you don't want to lose money on shipping, and ebay takes a bite out of what you charge for shippping as well as what the item sells for. hope this helps...

...I send stuff Media Mail from the Post Office all the time like Cds to family and bound papers for a book. You cant tell them that you are sending stamps but that is not honest so you make your choices. It is only for Cds, Tapes, Printed transcripts that sort of thing. Some people try to send paper but it is not for that eather. It is for printed material and NOT to have any advertising in this.......
Best of luck on this..
PS it will not cost much to ship them Par. Post or heck it is only 3.45 or so to ship priority

.... just a quick tip: If you'll be sending a few sets to the same person, or bigger accessories, there are two sizes of FLAT RATE PRIORITY BOXES. You can fill them up, as heavy as they get, and the charge to mail them is $7.70. The boxes themselves are free online or at the post office.
