I saw some of these at Target tonight and wondered if anyone had used them for cardmaking. If so, do you need to use acrylic paints with them ... or do our classic pads work ok?
I have two sets and they work just fine for stamping. I do like the craft inks on them a bit better, but classics will work too. They do stain a bit but it doesn't effect the next color if you clean them off well. The only thing I don't like about them is the foam mount. It's so hard to hold on to and doesn't feel like you are getting an even impression, you do though if you press down along the stamp.
Here is one from my gallery that was done with craft white: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
I have a couple of these and I use my inkpads as well as paint with them. I really love them. My Targets that are close by don't carry them :( MM just came out with a new alpha called Simply Fab.. and it is just that! It looks so cool! They also have a new flower set out that looks fun too and you just can't beat the price! (Oh and the Hobby Lobby by me does not carry these :( )
The Target store by my house had the simply fab alpha for $9.99. I resisted getting the set, as hard as it was, but I already have 2 other MM alphabets that I rarely use. I just find myself grabbing my SU! alphabets more.

I just got a few sets and I love them I don't have much posted, but I do use them. I have only used classic ink so far, but after seeing Lynn's posts I will definitely try the craft and chalk inks. I saw an example at LSS with the paints, and I thought it looked pretty bad, could have just been bad technique. To clean I just run under water and scrub with a toothbrush, then allow to air dry. They take a bit getting used to, but they are not difficult to use. Hope that helps.

Bummer! Took a trip to HL this morning and the only set of foam MM stamps they had was a set of Valentine stamps. The clerk said they don't usually carry the MM alphabets there. :(

I have the MM paints and use them more than ink with the foam stamps. I like the slight random texture/unevenness the paint gives the image. Inks give a very smooth image for me, which works in other situations, though. I do use them more on scrapbook pages than cards.
To use the paint, apply it evenly and not too heavily to the stamp with a foam brush--if you just dip the stamp into the paint, it can make a globby mess!

I trimmed my MM alphabets and put aileens tack and retack on the back and use them with an acrylic block. They work awesome and you can do a whole word if you have a 2x6.5 block.

I clean mine with baby wipes.
HTH!
Yeah, the example in the LSS looked very much like a globby mess, thanks for the pointer on how I may make it look different. I may try the paints now!

Ooo Simply Fab looks very much like the Pharmacy font! I know Mobe stamps has a set of UM in that font, but these are cheaper!
I have Misunderstood UC, Franklin, Gabby, and Philadelphia LC. I LOVE my MM foam stamps! They work well with both inks and acrylic paint. The trick with the paint is to apply it with a foam brush. That gives nice coverage without getting gloppy. (Doh, LateBlossom just said that )
Do I need to order the MM Spotlight and Asphalt paints ... or will my white and black craft pads give the same effect?
Are the above colors good ones to start out with?
Inks will look different than paint--smoother and more even. The paint sort of pulls back when you lift the stamp, giving an uneven look. Paint is also more opaque. So, if you want the more textured look, you need paint. I've used the cheaper, regular craft acrylic paint from Michaels or HL, and it works basically the same. It has more water in it, though, so you might have a little buckling of the paper as it dries. The MM paints are more expensive, but they have less water and dry faster. I felt they were worth it (I've got about 30 bottles!), but lots of other people just use the less expensive stuff and are perfectly happy with it.
As for colors, if I could only get two, I'd get the spotlight and manila instead of asphalt, but I really like stamping them on darker paper, with lighter lettering, since the opaque paint works so well for that. I think it just depends on your style and color preferences.
I don't think so. I just use a bunch of water and stamp off on a paper towel. Then hit it with my stamp cleaner and scrub. They do stain, but it in now way affects the way they stamp. You can also clean them under running water if you want to, but be careful with the thin ones like the "i" and "j" etc... they have in teh past been known to come loose with too much scrubbing
I love these stamps! I have only used paints, but now that I have all the craft spots, I might give that a try.
Great idea about baby wipes! I use for my stamps in a hurry - why didn't I think of it for them?!?! Although they are more cumbersome to clean than a stamp set, the look is TOTALLY worth it. Things worthwhile are seldom easy!
These are on sale at Joann's - they don't have all the alphas, but you can't beat $7 for a full alpha. PLUS shipping is free if you spend over $25 (code CRAFTH625 through 3/31) PLUS you can get 4% back if you go through ebates.com
this group is killing my wallet... after reading about these i of course had to dash out to HL and get some while they were 1/2 off and then ran to target to get some there as well... one day i will sit still long enough to post these!! all i can figure is that i sort of "saved" a little money in that i got TWO sets of alphas (upper & lower case and numbers) for less than 1/2 of what it would have taken me to get just one case and no numbers from SU!... but i am still drooling over the headline letters - they are just a little bigger. these foam stamps are GREAT!!! seriously, thanks for the advice!! yuko
