Default Markers or Watercolor crayons? Which would you buy?

I have the chance to buy one or the other. I have been stamping for about 6 months now. Been doing pretty good with the bender pen. But now I have a chance to purchace either markers or crayons. Which would I get the most use out of? Which do you perfer? Help your comments are most welcome!

it really depends upon your "style" - I really like watercolors alot - and I think that I use my crayons more. I'll be honest - I use my markers more for writing...

Definately get the crayons first.... they are cheaper and you can do so much with them! With that being said... I have the crayons and am now ordering the markers! What can I say... I need them BOTH!

For coloring, I use the crayons more than the markers. The crayons give a softer look, the markers can be a little intense. But I do use markers to color on my stamps when I have a solid stamp that I want multiple colors (ex. flowers with stems).

Can I just say thank you for asking this question today? I have a bunch of cards to make this afternoon and I think I'll break out my crayons... I haven't used them in a few weeks...

I have both and I use my markers more. I like using the markers to color on the stamps and make multi colored images, and for coloring in. If I want a more watercolored look with the markers, I scribble some on a CD or a stamp box and use my aquapainter or blender pens.

I think the markers are a must!! The crayons are great but the markers are the first must have- they can color the stamps for the varitey of color in the stamps they are great to color with and just a plain necessity!

Do you have all the ink colors? If you don't then the markers are probably more versatile than the crayons. On the other hand, for the price of the markers you could get the crayons and a couple of sets of the spots, so....
They're both good. Either way, you'll eventually find a moment when you'll wish you had the other one. I do think the big box makes it worth getting all the markers at once, so if you don't think you're going to have $120 to spend all at once later, then I'd get the markers now. Plus, 2 sell-a-bration sets!

Talking Markers!!

I LOVE MY MARKERS!!!!! They have been by far my favorite item from Stampin' Up! I use them everytime I stamp or scrapbook. I love using them with the Aqua Painters, on stamps or just to sign my cards in ink that matches the card I made!

I have to say that I just got the crayons this week and used them the other night and was not happy with them. I'm sure that in time I will grow to love them, but I need to learn the tricks on how to use them. On the other hand the markers you can use right out of the box without any special training.

My vote would be markers, espically if you are a scrapbooker. Couldn't see myself ever journaling with a crayon!

I completely agree! I have both and I can tell you that I use my markers on 95% of my projects! I could live without my Crayons, although I love them lots too, but don't you mess with my markers!! LOL

Oh, another point about the markers, they have the writing end, I use that to write my note on the inside of the card - it totally coordinates!

Hmm, I just had this whole debate myself this month. I finally decided to go ahead and get both. But I think if I could only have one or the other (/cry), I would start with the markers especially since I don't have all of the classic ink pads. You can get a marvelous watercolored look with the crayons by misting, coloring the stamp and misting again, but you could probably get something similar with the markers by coloring the stamp and misting. However, you can't get the sharp look of plain stamping with the crayons like you can with coloring directly on the stamp with markers.

Check out the Marker Tips document in this Ways to Use It challenge. And then to tempt you further to get the crayons, check out this link. Also check out the marvelous tutorials in the Resource section (click the link at the top of this page).

Markers! Especially if you do not have every ink pad color yet.

And, you can scribble on the top of a stamp set box with the markers and use your Aqua Painters or blender pens or watercolor brush to pick up the ink and watercolor with it.

JMO from what I use personally, but I'm not exactly the Crayon master yet. ;)

Have fun with what ever you do purchase!

I vote for the markers - you can color your images in with them, use them directly on your stamps to color select parts of an image (like Alphabet Soup, for instance), write on the inside of cards, use them in a pinch if you haven't bought all of the inkpads, address your envelopes with matching colors, etc. Like others said, you can scribble on a CD cover and use your blender pens or aquapainter with them too.

Someone on this site had another good idea - you could get a friend to buy the WCC with you and then break the crayons in 1/2. They said that it takes forever to use the crayons in the first place, so 1/2 size crayons would be perfect and only 1/2 the price!

I would also say markers--for all the reasons stated above. They are much more user friendly, they are more versatile, and the Real Red is actually Real Red. :-)

Right now, I am buying the water color crayons and will be getting the markers next. I am in a group and we all buy one set but split it between 4 people, 4 purchases. I took the bold brights this time. I think we'll be doing this with the markers next.

Ok - so here's my "duhhh" moment for today. I never even thought of signing my cards with a matching marker! How crazy is that!!

I only have the BB markers right now, but I LOVE them. I have SS on order, but they haven't arrived yet. I've never tried the crayons, so I'd say go for markers!!

I vote for the markers, too. i was lucky enough to get them in a donation box from SU, and I love them!!!! I don't have all the ink pads yet, and there were some colors I just didn't think I needed. Having the markers showed me how wrong I was about some colors. I never would have bought Chocolate Chip if I hadn't tried the marker. I am now working on buying the new color markers, although I do have the pads for those. I don't really like the crayons, but I haven't really tried all the different uses for them yet.

I agree with the majority (I think?) Buy the markers first, they are more versatile, especially if you don't have all the ink pads! I sometimes use my markers to fill in spots that didn't stamp well, works like a charm!
