What do you all do for masculine cards when it's for a man who isn't into something there's a specific set for - like cars, sports, hunting, etc...Just something for a man, particularly a birthday card.
I have Birthday Wishes from Sincere Salutations, but I'd like to stamp something else, or Versamark some kind of image, not just words. I just made one Versamarking the cupcake with a candle in it for my brother-in-law - he's in his 40s - it was a good enough birthday card, but not very, I don't know, classy, older.

do you have any of the nature sets? Or maybe Lovely as a tree? maybe along the shore, or Coast to Coast? Try one of those...I have a card in my gallery that I made for my FIL that I think is more on the masculine side, using lovely as a tree...here's a link:
If you play around with the word stamps, you might come up with something. A couple of weeks ago the "Limited Supply Challenge" was exactly that. NO images, only words. Go to galleries; in search box type LSC18. There are a couple of good ideas. I like the one called "Great Christmas Greeting." The words are stamped every which way, then the card front is tied with a ribbon so it looks like a package. Of course, I rather like my own creations too. The rust/brown "Happy Birthday" was for my son-in-law.

You are welcome! I LIVE with one of 'those' guys!!! My DH isn't into cars, he is into soprts, but wouldn't want a card themed like that...we're in a Fife & Drum corps and he plays the bass drum, but there aren't any stamps like that...and he's an electrician, so I thought of getting 'take shape' so I could do the lightbulb thing, but I dunno...he's tough! Yeah, lovely as a tree I think is a GREAT set for the 'masculine' cards and it's not too expensive...be sure to post a link here when you make your card!!!
Oh, very helpful gallery samples. I think I get it now. I need to try and think more creatively. I'm waiting for the Lexicon of Love set - love it, and it would be good for men too.

*Blush* Thanks Garnet! That just totally made my day!
Any nature sets such as Lovely as a Tree or Fantastic Foliage or the new Autumn Leaf Prints set work great for masculine cards. I snapped up Yukon before it retired for just that reason. DD Pines would work well, too. I've only seen the new catty once so far (don't have my own yet, had to borrow a friend's) but I thought the tool set would be great for guys, or just about any of the vintage sets. I have quite a few cards in my gallery (link below) with a masculine flair.

I sometimes use Noble Deer set and I just bought the Power Up set because that's what my DH is into. I "kinda" looked at the computer set but it was too cutsy I thought. HTH.
Lovely as a Tree and Set Sail come to mind first, but as other's have said, many of the nature sets will work. Leaves, especially. The leaf from On Gossamer Wings can be stamped randomly in various colors to make a very nice background.
I participated in a Masculine Birthday card swap here on SCS. Received many fabulous cards that gave me some great ideas. So you might want to organize your own swap.
I used 'Party Fun' wheel (goes with 'Let's Party' set) on vanilla with Old Olive & Night of Navy. Sometimes it is the colour combinations that turn a regular card masculine.
Have fun.

Here's one I CASEd from the gallery (sorry I don't remember the original artist) for my brother. I would suggest you do a search for birthday or masculine (I think I did masculine when I found the original) and go from there. Good luck!
Leaves, trees, geometric shapes, and such are all good "manly" cards for those not into sports or cars. I usually stick with greys, blacks, browns or greens usually with metallics too!

I don't have any SU stamps, but I've seen mention of the canvas bg which would be perfect for a masculine card. And isn't there something that does plaid?
Had an idea as I was typing--don't know if it would work, but here goes:
tape thin strips of paper or cs to your work surface--multiple pieces and enough to make a striped pattern. Slide white or gray cs under thin strips and brayer with black ink. Instant pinstripe background--maybe!

There was a "Country Plaid" set a few years ago that was retired, plus there is the "Plaid Maker" template. Some of the new background stamps would also be excellent for guys: Crosshatch, Cheesecloth, Ephemera, Houndstooth...even the 4-piece mini set Wonderful Weaves would be great. So would older backgrounds like Geometric and On Safari. Stamp your background and then all you really need to add is a simple greeting like "Happy Birthday" or "Thinking of You." The burlap strip from Art of Life would also work.
Oooh...now I'm wishing I had some of the new backgrounds so I could play around a bit tomorrow. The only one I have so far is Canvas. Bet I could come up with several different ideas for that, though. ;)

I use masculine color cardstock (creamy caramel, old olive, mellow moss, etc.), and then I use some masculine colored background paper I get from Memories Galore or Michaels. I did this when all I had was words like "Happy Birthday", etc. to use for my masculine cards. Then I just used different techniques, etc. I use "In the Wild" set now and "Lexicon of Love". But if you use the masculine color cardstock and background paper, you can come up with a lot of different cards with very few masculine stamps.
I've ordered Canvas already (waiting for that to arrive). I think that will be very versatile, and good for a man's card.
Inspired by yesterday's posts on this topic, I played around a bit this afternoon with my Canvas background stamp and managed to get a couple done before dinner. They're the last three uploaded to my gallery:
I like to use the 'retro' look and to keep it simple, using little or no embellishments. For example, these sets work well: Geometrics (background stamp), By Design, Hot to Dot (wheel), Fun with Shapes.
Here's a card I made (as part of a Virtual Stamp Night Challenge).
A snippet of info on colors--while moss, dk brown, gray, black are all considered masculine--men love purple. Keep it deep and dark, not pale and lilac.
Can't remember where I picked that up, but I do know dh's second favorite color is the purple. (First is hunter green)
I just made a card using the "Little Pieces" set with Night of Navy, More Mustard and Bravo Burgandy...the colours look great together...and very masculine! My husband liked it! My scanner is broken, or I would post it!!
