I just talked to a friend of mine that was out in Brighton trying to use the Michael's coupon that has been featured in a banner ad up here and elsewhere online.
Apparently this is a test market for this coupon. But, it would be nice, wouldn't it, if the corporate headquarters told the stores listed on the coupon to actually TAKE the coupon, wouldn't it?
I went in to the Livonia store with mine the other day and the clerk very reluctantly took it after she told me that they "didn't take coupons printed from the internet". I pointed out to her that, yes, it was a MICHAEL's coupon and that the only place to get this particular coupon was the internet. The original version of the coupon just said "Metro-Detroit area stores only" and I notice now that it lists every store that is supposed to accept it in a list on the bottom.
But my friend tells me there is a sign near the check-out in Brighton that says they are NOT taking this coupon.
What is the point of launching a marketing campaign and making a coupon that the stores listed on the front won't even take?
The same thing happened when they decided they would start taking the coupons for the Martha Stewart. Half the stores I visited in the week or two after the decision was made had no clue that they could now take the coupon for Martha Stewart stuff.
What is it with this company? Does the right hand know what the left hand is doing? Doesn't their corporate office tell their store managers anything? Do the store managers have a problem informing their employees? What's going on?
Anyone else having a problem with the online coupon?
Basically if the coupon isn't meant to be used, the register won't accept it. Now lets face it, Michaels isn't hiring rocket scientists and their coporate communication is abhorrent. I have a smart friend who is the events coordinator here in Los Angeles and she says its amazing how they just don't get it when it comes to informing employees about jack. I posted about 4 months ago about how I got into an arguement with the manager of my local M's reagrding a coupon for my Cuttlebug. Won't go into details, but lets just say he's as dumb a s*%#! Oh, and I won in the end. Not only did I get my Bug, but I then decided to pull out a 50% off Joanns instead of the 40% M's.
I didn't know they were taking the coupons for the Martha Stewart stuff.
Yes you can now use the coupons for Martha Stewart products. This started a few weeks ago already. It is no longer listed on the bottom of the coupon that lists what cannot be bought with the coupon. Sales were not what they expected with the Martha stuff so since we can now buy her stuff using it, the sales have gone up. If a clerk refuses to take it for a Martha item just tell her it is not listed on the bottom and M's does take them now and has been for a while. Not all of the employees are aware of this yet.
I truly believe M's has a very bad comunication problem between stores and employees. What one store does the next one will say we are not allowed to do that. The customers know more about their jobs than they do. How sad that is!!!
Friends are like the walls of a house. Sometimes they hold you up, sometimes you lean on them. But sometimes, it's enough to know they're just standing by.
My Mikes has a HUGE sign when you walk in the door that says "we now accept coupons on MS items".
Doesn't matter to me, cuz I won't buy her items. I think she is a freak.
in the rural area, I would have to drive 15 miles to get the newspaper that
has a Micheals coupon in it. Micheals' always has a response to counteract
their policies, but in our area we found out, you can ask the store if their was a discount coupon in the paper this week and they will give you that discount, but do ask for my zip code, which is fine. I just want to be able to get a coupon and use it when I get to that town 50 miles away. The zip code encourages people to not cheat, which is fine. However, how many
people live in the same town as the store and buy, beg, borrow or steal from work, the paper the coupons come in and sometimes, go 3 times a week to get a super buy,AND I JUST WANT ONE COUPON, when I'm driving 50 miles to their store. I do think their company is suffering because of their coupon policy. Carolyn

I tried to use the 40% off coupon this week on the cuttlebug and got the same NO you can't because it's a Cricut product which it is not. it is made by provocraft which just happens to be the same company that also manufactures cricut and several other things like scrapbok paper. I sent an email to corporate the same day and still haven't received a response! I am so tired of this store.
I live within 15 miles from 3 different Mikes. 4 months ago they stopped supplying my area with Sunday ads / coupons. Go figure!!! I made a written inquiry and the answer was, "we'll look into it". Still no coupons. Needless to say, I haven't been in a Mikes for 2 months! I used to frequent the stores in my area once a week (to use my coupon!)
Wonder if they will look into it before they go bankrupt . . .

I stopped seeing them in my paper awhile ago. But they started popping up in one of the ad packets we get in the mail. After my last couple of trips to M I try avoid the place. The employees at Hobby Lobby have just been more friendly to me. Especially since they saw me over 6 times this week.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one. I refuse to buy any of her products. Just don't like the woman. Can't quite put my finger on why, though.

I just visited a Mike's in Erie, PA and was told: no coupon, no discount. In Ontario, at the Mike's I frequent, we just have to give our postal code when we don't have a coupon and we get the discount. ( I, often, don't get my flyers either...they just don't get delivered).

Thanks for the tip. It's funny that no one at Mike's never offered this. I checked with my local paper before sending an inquiry to Mikes. The paper vendor said they are no longer being supplied with the Mike's add. I will go to Mikes this weekend and see if the "postal zip" works! TFS

In one of the magazines I subscribe to there has been a 20% off your entire purchase coupon each month. It helps. I used it at Joann's too, but then the manager really started to read the coupon and said they would have to contact corporate about whether or not they would continue to take them. She did let me keep my $2 discount though (I wasn't buying very much).

Reason: spelling
The 2 Michael's in my area have asked for zip codes at checkout since they opened...nothing to do with giving me a discount, just a corporate survey about where the business is coming from.
I hardly ever go there anymore, either. I do cut the coupon every week, but hardly ever use it.
I am quite curious to see if our local Recollections stock ends up in the Michael's across the parking lot in January...
50% Michaels' coupon for the Cuttlebug...ugghh!!!
DH actually found a coupon and bought it for our anniversary, but said they wouldn't let him use the coupon. So, of course I went back up there with him and the manager declared they couldn't (even though you could use it on the dies). We got the number for corporate and called from outside the store, the rep told us we were right and called the store to tell them to accept them. You'd think they could do a mass notification by now.
I haven't had any major problems with Michaels here in Charlotte, but I buy a lot of big items online or at my fav local stamp/scrap stores with a TLC frequent buyer discount kind of thing.
AC Moore gets the majority of my business because I can print out coupons, and also Hobby Lobby puts their SB paper packs on 50% off a lot as well as a good line of brads and accessories.
I'm lucky. In one area of my town, there's a Michaels, AC Moore and a Hobby Lobby all at the same intersection!
No stores in our area accept ANY internet coupons. Apparently, there has been a lot of fraud. Our grocery stores, craft stores, pretty much every store, has a sign that says they're sorry, but due to abuse of internet coupons, they won't accept them, so I don't even try. A few bad apples always ruin it for the honest people.
My sentiment exactly...HATE Michael's with a passion. Joanns has nicer policies, nicer employees, nicer everything...my dollars and I go there.
See, now, I dislike going to Joann's, because every time I think I have something I can use my coupon on, I get up to the checkout and it is on sale, usually for less percent off than the coupon would give me. EVERYTHING seems to be on sale there, whether it is announced in the paper or not. They used to let you choose to take the sale price or use the coupon on the original price, but they won't let you do that anymore. I think the coupon is nothing more than a bait and switch...get you in the store, but then you have a heck of a time finding a non-sale item to use it on. I'd rather take my Joann's coupon to Mike's and use it there, at least they don't have any "hidden" sales on their merchandise.
And when I went to buy my Cuttlebug at Joann's, they told me I couldn't use the coupon. I finally had to email corporate and complain and then the manager called and told me I could come in and use it.
Jan... you should write Micheal's corporate and complain. Be sure to mention you have a "popular stamping blog"... and would "hate to have to let your readers know about this problem". Or something like that.

This is exactly what happened to me. I got really nasty with the manager and told him that I could read and the coupon did not state that I couldn't use it on Cuttlebugs. I just kept getting the same stupid reply that it was a Cricut and they can't take the coupon. I called the coporate office and the guy I talked to was amazed at the attitude and answer I got. He assured me that I was right and the manager was wrong. I happily used my bug last night!
I ended up at the Michael's in Westland today and the girl there didn't even bat an eye at the internet coupon, but let me use it without a problem. Must vary by store. ;)

This is exactly my experience with Joann's also.

I say....... Take your cell phone with you and call their customer service number and ask your question... Then hand the phone to the manager or cashier to hear the response repeated. (1-800-642-4235)
