Default modular storage furniture...

OK I have spent the past hour or so looking in the stamping spaces gallery and slogging through threads...

I am in the market for some type of modular storage furniture for my crafting space.

In my head I envision a bottom piece with drawers, fairly wide (2ft or so) and the ability to put a cabinet (with doors) on top...along with the possibility of a wide waist high cabinet to put beside it as well...

Does anyone know if anything like this exists that doesn't cost over $1,000.

I have perused the Ikea site and found a few things that *may* work but it is hard to tell from the pictures - I have seen many pictures of people using the IKEA bookshelves but not any sort of combo of drawers and cabinets (or did I miss those???)

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and look at the assemble yourself storage cabinets, drawers, counters etc., in the closet system area. It is what I will be switching to when we move.

Jenni,

I don't know about a base piece, but I LOVE the white storage cubes at Michaels (near the Cricut section in VA Ctr). They retail for $30 each and can hold 12x12 albums. That's what I have been using my 50% coupons for. They are solid and perfect for sitting on top of a desk or big filing cabinet/drawer. I'm using a repurposed filing cabinet for paper storage and then built a tower (2 units across) for most of my storage. My Cricut sits on top of them.

Cheers!

I have one of these from IKEA:

MARKOR buffet

It's a great height for a cutting station. It's also the perfect height for our parakeets' cage, since they live in my craft room. The only warning I'd give is that it's definitely the most complex IKEA piece that I've ever assembled - over 50 steps! You wouldn't believe how much of the dreaded "alterables" stash will fit in this thing, though.

Those Michaels cubes...they recently appeared in a wood-grain version for $34.95. I saw in my Michaels yesterday that they were on sale for $19.99! Obviously these wouldn't work for your base cabinet, but for putting together something on the top of it, they might work.

I got this combo from Ikea in Jan when the white was on sale. I love the height for a standing cutting station. I put my file drawer on the top, with the intention of putting scraps away right away. I am still a "bit" disorganized in that room, or I would take a picture to show you how it works, but I think it is great. I have Ikea adjustable shelves on the wall above.
HTH- pm me if you have more questions.
