Default It must be the season for stupid questions

I have another stupid question, although I don't think anyone else's questions were stupid.
Can you use the wheels like a brayer? For example, can you use the wheel with a versamark pad? I don't want to start collecting wheels and then discover that you need different inks for every one. I want to be able to use a versamark with it so it is more versatile.

My demo/friend said yes. You can run your wheel over an ink pad and wheel on your cardstock. She said with one ink up from the pad you could do one wheel line across the front of a card, that's about how much ink would be on the wheel.

Make sense?

I have the Island wheel (matches Do the Hula) and only one ink cartridge for a wheel (Green Galore). I've used my Versamark pad and it works.

You will need to get a blank cartridge then ink it with the VersaMark refill. You can use it just like any stamp. I actually only have a black and a VersaMark cartridge for my wheels. The rest I just ink up using a stamp pad. You can get across one regular card width using a wheel inked in this manner. Limits the possibilities a bit, but my budget is limited too!

That's what I did . . . I got a blank cartridge and a versamark refill. Works like a charm!

I just ordered a wheel and my demo told me I could use the Versamark refill on the cartridge. My question is how much do you use? How can you tell when there is enough Versamark on the cartridge? TIA

I have three cartridges and never use them, they were a waste of my money. I always run the wheel through my colored ink or Versa Mark pad and then run it over the card front. Since I never do anything bigger than a card it works fine for me.
A tip if you haven't worked with wheels is to find the seam and turn it so the seam is just behind your starting point. On some wheels it doesn't matter but on others it shows and I just don't care to see where the seam started. Out of my SU wheels the only one I notice it on is the Heart of Africa and it's obvious. If you look close under the image you'll see the gap in the card I linked between the yellow and blue sections. I figured it out after I did this card!

I agree with Rox71...I have some cartridges and never use them. They are only needed if you are doing gift wrap or scrapbook pages. Otherwise, they are a pain to use and money wasted.

Me too! I have several wheels and have never purchased an ink cartridge. I just always use my pads!

Thanks guys,

That has saved me a fortune having to buy ink cartridges. I might buy some of the Christmas mini wheels now.
