My Boss Threw My Card Away!
This was just a little wierd to me. I went to the stamping store I work at and was looking for something when I was helping a customer. I found out that my boss threw one of the demo cards I made away because it creeped her out to look at it. Usually she just loves what I do and oohs and ahhs over it. But this was just wierd to me!!!

I don't think it is creepy, but that is not the point. If she didn't like it she could have just taken it down and given it back to you. She shouldn't have thrown it in the garbage!
I've come to the conclusion that once cards leave our hands there is very little that we can do about what happens next.........keep, toss, recycle them to another person, etc. It's all been done.
As far as being creepy, I don't think so, it's more artsy. Are the cards you typically make for her in this genre or different? Maybe it reminded her of something else, who knows her reason..............
It looks like an impressionist painting. Even if she was so uncomfortable with it, she could have at least "done away with it" in a place you weren't going to find it. Or like others said, give it back to you.
I wonder what creeped her out? I like it! I also like it when demo cards don't all look the same. Showing different ways that stamps can be used helps me to decide if I want to buy that particular stamp (or set).

THAT's the word I was thinking of. I was going to say something about the style of card but I couldn't think of "impressionist" so I just didn't mention anything about style. LOL

i think your card is beautiful... i find in stamping as in all areas of ones life...everyone has different taste...but to throw your card away because it "creeped" her out is a little strange....to me there is no reason the card could be creepy...a tree plus snow..??? i would have been honored if you had made that card for me...
Second there isn't anything creepy about it. At least not in my book but since some of my favorite books have vampires and shapeshifters, I might not be the best one to ask. <grin>
I'm kind of stunned she would throw it away....I would assume, since she's the owner, she stamps and would know how hurtful just throwing away someone's work is.
Second, I know that we can not control what happens to our cards or homemade gifts after we give them away, but I think what hurts the most is *knowing* it was thrown away, because it was left somewhere you could find it! If she wanted to throw it away, she could have at least done it somewhere that you wouldn't have saw it!
My last thing (then I will shut up) it that maybe she threw it away on accident...
I agree that it is a very pretty card. I do know that once we give away our works you never know what people will do with them.
I had a friend once actually ask me to not sign the cards I give her (birthday, holiday, whatever) because she gives them out to people. So, I started making 2 to give. One for her, one to give out.
I'm the kind of person who would of said "oh, this was in the trash. It must of fallen in ~ you can have it back."

I don't get it......could the reason be that she is just simply so sick of snow that she cannot begin to look at one more thing with snow on it? LOL! I agree with you Lois....just plain weird!
I love it and find it very soothing. I agree that it was very strange and rude to throw it away, especially somewhere that you would find it. Even if it was not her taste, if would have been nice of her if she had given it back to you.
Oh my gosh, that is one of my favorite cards! It's been in my favorites gallery for a while. I still just love the effect you achieved. How rude to throw it away where you could see. And how discouraging for you. Some people!
Sorry that happened to you! I find it pretty disrespectful that it was thrown away.
I sell cards at the school where I work. I've always been surprised by cards that are my least fav which sell like hotcakes. Other cards I LOVE don't sell well. Hmmmmm, each of us really has our own tastes.
You can see by all the comments that your card is appreciated here. I LOVE the way you did the dark sky background. Beautiful!

the tree looks sad all by its self but not creepy lol. I love that people get all sorts of ideas from art! but I think she should have just given the card back to you if it bothered her!

Oh I wish I could have gotten away with that! But she clearly told me she threw it away and why! That was to me the wierd part.

Thanks everyone for all the positive comments. It's not my normal style of card. I do tend to lean towards the artsy a little more than most, but this one was to try a special style and technique for a class I was teaching for her in the store. I have no problem with people not liking my things. That happens. We all have different tastes. But when she stood there in front of a regualr customer and me and said why she had purposely thrown it out, it was just wierd! I thought the customers eyes were gonna pop out! Actually that part of it was funny.
So thanks for all the very kind words!!! I really needed them today.

It's a very deep into winter card...brrrrrr.....you can really feel the snow..and the dark night....but creepy?....no!.....Way cool?..yes! I think it great!

My thought, exactly! Even if she didn't care for the card, to toss it out so blithely without consulting with you first is rude and uncalled for >:(!! If it's still there in the trash, I would take it out and take it home. She obviously doesn't want it on display.
I echo everyone who said that your card is beautiful and very artistic.
I know you can't help what people do with cards once they are out of your hands, but I bought a stamp from River City Rubberworks that I stamp on the back of most of my cards that lets the receivers know what I think they should NOT do with them; it says "This better not go in the trash." Of course, that only gets put on those close enough to me to know my sense of humor, but that includes most of the people who receive the cards I spend a lot of time and effort on. HTH!
Lois, this is almost funny! SCARY? I think it's a pretty tree with snow on it at night. Gee, am I dorky or what? I don't even think it looks impressionistic!
Did you mean to say it was DORK and mysterious? ;)

Oh why didn't I think of that?

I would be furious! It isn't like it is a card you gave as a gift.. when we do that it isn't up to us what happens to them but you made this one for work? Different and so rude. I am glad I wasn't that customer! I would have told her how rude she was! Now I am mad for you! lol
Well since you work at the store, it was a demo card & she's the boss - she is the one to have the final say in what is shown as a demo. She could have given it back to you instead of throwing it out - but maybe she's a person who isn't comfortable with any sort of confrontation & this was just her way of dealing with it. Not everything we do is to everybody's taste & maybe she just thought it wouldn't go over as well with the stores clients as other cards. The idea is to sell ideas & product. Maybe you'd feel better if you made several for whatever season/reason, gave them to her & tell her pick the one's she wants to display, & take the rest home.
If you have the card I'd suggest you just take it home & enjoy sending it to someone.

Oh I agree she is the boss and she does have the right to do with things in the store as she wants. But it was on a display of former class samples so people could see what we have done in the past. It was a class I had already taught. In fact the customer standing there with me had been in the class! She had approved the class and all the samples I had made then. See that is why it is so wierd! Oh well. I do have a copy of the card I cased! So that is good.

I love this card. Next time you can just send it to me instead of your boss.;)
Some people just don't appreciate things. I love how you did the background.

Strange. Definitely looks like an oil painting. It's a shame she would throw such a pretty card away, that's exactly the kind of card my mom LOVES and would be inspired by when shopping at the LSS. Very pretty. The whole thing brings Romans 12 to mind ;).
God bless and keep up the good work,
Victoria
