Default MY images are not clear, help?

I am using new classic pads, new SU stamps...the ink is not a solid image, it is "beady" and bubbly. Should I add ink? These are brand new pads, I am bummed I am having this problem. I never have problems with other inks - versafine, versamark, etc - it seems to be my classic ink...advice? what do i do?

Default Your stamp

It sounds like there is still residue on the stamp from the manufacturing process. You can do several things to remove this residue

- rub the stamps on your pants....then clean the stamp.

OR

- rub a pencil eraser over the stamp....then clean the stamp.

OR

- ink the stamp up with Versamark....then stamp off the ink. Clean your stamp.

I've done the first two personally. I've heard that the third suggestion works too. This should solve your problem.

If it doesn't, PM me and we can discuss further.

1. Make sure you are using good paper like SU's Whisper White.
2. Make sure your stamp is "conditioned" by rubbing it all over with an eraser or rubbing it briskly on your denim jeans (I've heard that "magic eraser" works well too but I haven't had to try it).
3. Rub the stamp all around on the pad to fully moisten it.
4. Then tap*, tap, tap, tap (rotating your had so you're tapping in different locations) to pull up the "knap" on the ink and avoid lines ...*actually, it's more like a gentle press
5. Look at your stamp to make sure it's fully covered evenly
6. If you took a long time looking at it, then gently "huff" (like you do on eye glasses to clean them) right before you stamp to remoisten.

Voila! (I hope!)

HAHA..i've been stalking my own thread. I am using SU CS. I have always used the eraser/jeans technique on my clear stamps, not my SU. I am off to attempt this again....

I just rub new stamps on my stampin' scrub cleaner before I ink them up. It works for me.

well, it's better but still not 100%. I am using the small, solid flower from Fab Flowers. maybe my expectations are too high.

I always seem to have the same problem too, even with used stamps. Whenever I stamp at a workshop, they come out perfect, at home, not so much. Could it be a difference between using spots and regular ink pads?

I find I often have to stamp my image on scrap 3-5 times before it really stamps well...especially with solid stamps. Good luck!!!

I've been conditioning my stamps with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It's been working wonders! Especially for my acrylic stamps that, up to this point, I've never gotten a clean image with.
I just lightly rub the stamp with the magic eraser thingy and then clean it on my stamping scrub.

when using solid stamps - you REALLY do need to use high quality paper - regardless what anyone else says there is a BIG difference when stamping solid stamps...

It mainly has to do with the final coating of the paper...with a high quality paper like SU whisper white the final coating is smooth and allows for the ink to settle in at a constant rate

With a cheaper paper there either is not final coating or is isn't as smooth - this allows for the ink to settle into the paper at various rates...which leads to a splotchy looking appearance.

I have cheaper white cardstock that I use for matting and kiddie projects and I can always tell when I accidenty stamp on that paper vs my WW...

not to say there aren't other white CS that are as good as SU WW out there - there are - but I read a lot of time people commenting about using cheaper GP white cardstock and it is just as good as SU WW - but it really isn't when you are talking about solid stamps

So true...
I see that it's 'fabulous flower' that is giving you a fit. That one has been a stubborn one for me too. For the little ones I really have to look at the stamp to make sure it's "covered" in the method I described above with the tapping, the push down firmly. It's rubber and foam so it's ok to use alot of pressure.

For the big flower, I have to turn the flower over (rubber up) and apply the ink from the pad from the top down. Again, you have to look and see if you have the full image covered evenly. Ifnot, keep tapping down and rotating the pad. Once you do have it fully covered you can take a piece of WW Cardstock cut to the right size and place it over the inked stamp then use a piece of typing paper to place on top of the cs and rub all around evenly with your palm. Or, you can turn it over and stamp it but hold down for a few ..like 5 to 8 ...seconds (((careful not to move it))) and use even, strong pressure down. You can even stand up and use both hands to really put pressure on the stamp.

Is it workin for ya? I hope so! It's a set that 's worth the effort.

Another thing to think about is trying with craft ink. I always get better coverage than with classic...

When I ordered my In Color pads I was having that problem. When I would ink up the stamp, you could look at it and actually see bubbles on it, and when I stamped with it it was like the bubbles popped because there were holes of missing color. I think it was just too much ink, because they work perfectly now.

OK, i've been using mostly solid color SU CS. I'll try it on WW tonight - maybe the color of the CS causes a difference? I do the love the set - no problems with versafine or versamark, just the classic ink. I am been thinking of switching to from classic to craft...even want to trade my full sets & refills for the craft sets....I never have any issue with craft.

It sounds, then, like it might be the ink, not the stamp. Have you tried using the same stamp with Stazon or a different ink? What happens when you do?

Do you use it dry or do you wet it according to the instructions?

Thanks!
