Question My stamped images smear everytime!!

Everytime I try to color in my stamped image with a blender pen, the image smears into my color. What am I doing wrong? Is there a certain kind of ink that I have to use? Are there some kind of tips that you could tell me so that I could do it the right way? Thanks before hand!!

Yes, there are certain black inks that are made to not run when water is added. The black classic ink from Stampin Up is one, and one that will take a ton of water is called Document Stamping Ink. I've used both and like both.

Hope this helps!!

Even the black classic SU ink will smear a bit with a blender pen. Use Staz-on, it's made not to smear.

I've only recently gotten into watercolor pencils and was really frustrated by the stamped images smearing after using a dove blender or an aquapainter. it took a lot of fun out of coloring in those images. I had stamped using regular dye ink. try embossing the image either with versamark + colored EP or colored pigment ink + clear EP. if you don't want an embossed image, try instant dry pigment ink. I've been using Versafine made by the same maker of versamark, tsuikineko.

btw, you don't mention what medium you're using to color in your images but if you are using watercolor pencils, I'd recommend just using an aquapainter or a plain brush with water. the blender pen is pretty rough on most inks.

I had that exact problem! even with the Su black classic pad. I ended up buying versafine in brown and black. no more smears! you don't even have to heat set it! ...but, word of warning, the versafine does stain your rubber stamps.

I like to emboss in black then color it in. Don't have to worry about it smearing and it make the image really pop out.

Cool

Love that Versafine. I see it's coming out in more colors, too. Just make sure to let it dry if you've stamped on US or glossy. Regular CS, no problem. Instantly dry. Never smears.

I've never heard of Versafine. I will definately have to use my next Michael's coupon on it! (If they have it!)

I don't have any problems with SU Basic Black or Basic Brown. But I let mine dry for about 5-10 minutes before watercoloring. I've also heard to stamp, then spray it with a matte sealer, then watercolor. I tried this, and it worked really well. It gave a different look than not sealing. Since I don't have any problem when not sealing, I skip the extra step. But it might help you.

I also use a stamp pad similar to the Versafine and it works great... never smears. But I do hate that it stains all my stamps. I've tried everything to get the ink off and it just won't come. I'm worried that if I ever try to sell the stamps, nobody will want them because they are stained in black. I guess I'll just have to wait and see once I get to that point.

Stampin' Up! Recommends the Basic Black or Basic Brown which are permanent inks for use on the UltraSmooth papers and StazOn Black for use on the naturals or water color paper since they have more of a tooth to them. I haven't had much of an issue if I just use the Basic's.

Lightbulb ink

Another ink to try would be Palette Noir Ink you can get it from a TAC demo or go online and find it on other sites.
I use it all the time and I have never had a problem using it.
I used to use the India Black Dye ink pad but TAC discounted it.
I have also used Stazon Black in for Watercoloring.
