Default Need Ideas for a Hairy Situation!

I need some ideas from my fellow crafters.

I have been asked to make a card to congratulate a 13 year old young man for growing hair under his arm. . .I kid you not! I work with his grandmother, who told me he called her quite thrilled that he has three hairs growing in his armpits. She wants to send a congrats card.

I've been thinking along the lines of "congrats on your big hairy deal" or something with "pits," but thought I'd put this out there to see if anyone else had any other ideas.

This has to be a first!

Thanks!

Beth

that is funny and strange at the same time... think there is an emerson stamp of a gal with hairy armpits and its titled "harry potter" or some off the wall thing, but if i remember right the character is probably wearing a dress...

I really have no clue what to suggest, but thought i would mention this stamp in case you could think of a way to mask just the pits and change out the clothes or crop it or something...

I would suggest a "get a life" card for the grandmother. Why would you want to embarrass your grandson at an age when he is probably already sensitive? I would have to politely decline at making that card.

Hahaha, I love the big hairy deal idea. Maybe with some black felt or a scrap of black fake fur?

I had an education prof that kept us apprised of her son's armpit hair (or lack thereof)--if only I had been stamping then and I could have made him a card.

Can you draw a stick figure with its arms up (and three little hairs in each armpit) holding a sign that says "Congrats"?

Oh, I vote for stick man. Great Idea. As for the suggestion of get a life we have a disabled child and so our life was made an open book. Laughter is the only way to get through life and I am sure Grandma has a special relationship with her Grandson to warrant this card. I bet this card gets kept in a spot that he will look at in the years to come.

Love the stick man idea, lol. The "get a life," not so much. Did you overlook the "who told me he called her" part of the op?

I agree with Post #3. The little boy may have told Grandma, but does he really want the world to know also? I find it strange the Grandma would even make such a request of another person.

I also like the stickman idea.

As embarassing him, I kinda doubt it. He called Grandma all proud of himself. If he doesn't want to share the card with anyone else, he doesn't have to!

Could you use the SU set "All in the Family"? and then draw the arm pit hair? I think this is so cute and the grandson will absoultely adore the card from grandma. My son has saved many of the cards his grandma made for him. I think it is wonderful that grandson has someone special he can share all the neat and weird details of life.

For a sentiment, what about something along the lines of "Congrats on reaching another milestone. Keep growing in all ways.... " Or "So glad you shared with me how quickly you're growing up (or maturing)"

I remember my aunt gave me an electric shaver at my grade school graduation party. I was so embarrassed I quickly put it away but she grabbed it and took it out of the package and showed it around. Of course, that was 40 years ago, and maybe kids aren't that sensitive. I guess if he told his grandma, he's proud of it.

Thanks to everyone who gave useful suggestions! I certainly do appreciate it.

To those who chose to pass judgment on me or the grandmother, I'll quote from above: "GET A LIFE!" This entire family is very loving and close. The grandson is quite proud to be growing up and becoming a young man. As I said, he was thrilled to tell his grandma the big news and she wanted to celebrate that with him. Trust me when I say that this world would be a much better place if every grandchild had a grandmother even half as good as this woman.

I don't know when sending a person a card became "telling the world"? When i open mail I don't want my family (kids) to see, I read it smile and put it out of their sight.

Now handing it to him at a party where he is opening cards in front of his peers would be a different consideration.

I don'
t have a suggestion, but the stick figure sounds great since Diary of a Wimpy kid is so popular with his age group and it is drawn in stick figures.

Just as a funny aside, OH has about 3 chest hairs, which his sister and I take great pleasure in pulling his leg about, anyway a few years back he had a top that had a zip instead of buttons, and I thought the zip was to low down, so I reached over and pushed the zip up....the screams could be heard across the land, I am not sure if he was more traumatized by the 'pain' (needs his bikini waxed if he wants pain) or the fact that he lost his 3 hairs, or me falling about hysterically laughing at him

Good for you sister!!! Thanks for replying to some of the other comments. The request, no matter how odd to some, must mean somthing to you friend and her grandson. You do have lots of ideas and I think the card will be a hit! This did make me laugh this morning, ya can't walk into Hallmark for this one. Good thing there's people like us in the world!! ;)

Just so everyone will know: I ended up doing a card that said on the front, "Step aside, Harry Potter, and make way for. . . " and the inside says, "Hairy Peyton!" I found fonts that were Harry Potter-like and another one that was fuzzy and hairy for the inside text. The grandma just came in and thanked me up and down. Said there was nothing else that could have been more perfect, as they read the Harry Potter series together. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!

Quilterbeth - how fabulous that you found something that had the added extra (Harry Potter connection!)

{{{from another grandma who got the same announcement from her grandson }}}

Very cool that they have that relationship. I think it's great. And I am glad you stood up for yourself and their relationship. If she wants a card made for him about that great! I know my sister and I took my neice outta school and took her to lunch when she started her cylce. It was so funny cause all the waitresses everybody knew why we were there. Um- if he's got under arm hair- he's growing up- enjoy it and embrace it- don't ignore it and act as though it's not happening.

my vote was for flock!

Hopefully he will always be that open with grandma---

my mom, if alive, would have done the same exact thing. my Mitchell is 13 as of yesterday but has at least 40 hairs under each arm pit. I loved this story and it brought a much needed smile to my face.

HaHa Fantastic!!! Love it.
You know its possible, the boy and his friends compare armpit hairs and it could be a big thing for them. Maybe they are envious LOL Even possible he might show the card to all his friends!!! You never know with kids.
Anyway, what a great/fun grandmother he has!! The boy will certainly Never forget the day is grandma gave him a special card made just for him about his armpit hair. Im sure he will look back fondly on that memory
