Default Need some imput

Okay I when i agreed to make these boxes i only had about 70 to make.......now she's (my SIL) has decided she wants 110 of them!!!!

What do you think of it? DH said "it looks to easy, it's not fancy enough" my reply "yeah well you make 110 of them and tell me how fancy you decide to make them"

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v3...t=DSC08038.jpg

P.S. she's not paying for them or the supplies, she's paying for my dress for her wedding.

Wow that is cute :-) I love the stitched ribbon - thats a fab finishing touch...

If you wanted to add something else all I can think of that would be easy and make it look more ritzy would be to put a couple of blobs of stickles - maybe the diamond stickles - on a heart or two...

Great job - I love it :-)

Are these the little matchboxes? If so I can certainly relate to what you are doing. I made 550 for a business dinner my son's company was having. I will tell you I found it easier to work on 50 at a time. It didn't seem quite so overwhelming that way. It took me about 2 weeks of working 6 to 8 hours a day. Hang in there. You can do it.

It is absolutely beautiful. I hope that is your wedding gift to them. That is a lot of work.

I think they are totally adorable! Lots of work on your part.....I liked the idea about stickles, but I am a real glitter girl! Your SIL should be thrilled with these!!

I love simple designs so I really like this. I agree about using stickles, sparingly, if you need to "dress" it up more. Otherwise, I would leave them alone. What does you SIL say?

Anything added to the boxes would be 'too much' in my opinion. They look great, but what is in them?

its very nice as it is. not too plain in my opinion. Do you have a score-pal or scor-it to assist in quick production? or you might check your LSS to see if you purchase the cardstock if they can let you use theirs.

They are lovely as is, but if you wanted to do something else I would drag the edges of the white cardstock over your inkpad to give a little bit of a border. I don't think you need to, personally.

No, I don't have a scor-it or scor-pal. I'm scoring them using the straight edge of my rotary trimmer and a bone folder (yes it's a HUGE PITA and my hands are killing me). I don't really have a LSS ...........and all the products (except the whit CS) are stampin up.........

WOW! Very nice.

Depending on the dress she buys for you- I'd say that's a pretty fair trade. Most of my bridesmaid dresses have been at least $100-$150. Your labor won't be compensated at any sort of market rate, but your supplies will be. For most weddings families will pitch in labor - so you'd be having to do this sort of thing anyhow.

(Says the girl who unwrapped and then rewrapped 300 nestle crunch bars. Thankfully I didn't have to stamp them too!).

Good luck getting them all done- they sure are beautiful.

(And if you have time to wait on shipping and the funds- I'd say this is the perfect excuse to buy a scor-pal or scor-it)

I think they're gorgeous just the way they are and that people at the wedding will love them! If you *had* to fancy it up more (though they really don't need it), you could add some gold or copper cord in with the ribbon (assuming you have some as SU discontinued it - or have time to order some from the new mini that comes out next month). That's what I can think of that doesn't really involve an extra step (since you have to tie only once), as I too have made things in bulk and understand that less work is better.

I've heard good things about both. The less expensive one has lots of score lines- so you don't have to move your paper each time. But many people rave over the more expensive one. It might be personal preference?

Gee, that doesn't look easy to me! Lots of cutting and scoring. Is this a nugget box? I've made a couple of those and they take a bit of time.

I too was asked to make favors (70) for an upcoming church event my solidarity group is hosting. My cousin liked the nugget boxes I made for a craft fair and asked if I'd do those. Now I'm rethinking that idea because it seems overwhelming.

I might try to persuade my group to go with the little box that was posted in Wed. tutorial. It there's just scoring, no tracing and cutting out!

I think they look great. If you chose to add some stickles, that wouldn't be that much extra work.

How many do you have done? Are you doing them assemblyline style? How much time are you allowing yourself?

My style would be to do the hardest part first, then the next hardest, etc. So that when I would be getting tired of working on them, I would be at the easiest steps. That's how I break down swaps too.

Also, at this point I wouldn't make any changes other than to maybe add stickles.

Yes I'm doing them assembly line style. I cut all the paper out, then marked it, now I am scoring the inside box (where the nuggets go) because that is the hardest and most time consuming part of the whole thing!! Her wedding is September 29 so I have a bit of time...........i'm trying to get at least 20 scored a night. I am finding that the scoring is the most time consuming part of the whole thing! I'm telling you, if cuttlebug ever came out with an ebossing folder that would scor a 3 nugget box, i'd buy that machine just for that purpose!!! lol

Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? When the scoring is done, then you will be on the downhill of the job, right? Doing 20 a night, means that should take you about 6 evenings. Then you have the stamping of the white cardstock. Then assembly.

I hope your dress is a good trade. Keep track of your time and materials. Then you will know which of you got the best deal.

Great job on the nugget boxes! I had to do favors for a large wedding in June. I thought that it was for 500 but ended up doing favors for 650! Until I saw how much work was involved in completing each box, I had planned on doing nugget boxes. I was asked to contribute on what I considered short notice and since I had so many to do I decided against the nugget boxes. I think the ones you are doing are gorgeous. I’m assuming that the colors are burgundy and white. At this late date, (I haven’t been on the site in a while) I’m not sure if this is useful or not: Depending on the theme/style of the wedding consider using satin ribbon or sheer ribbon with satin edges. It will add elegance to the project--But ONLY if that’s needed. If it is an outside garden wedding, I WOULDN’T CHANGE A THING!!
