My daughter is starting Brownie's next week and I have been talked into being an assistant leader with another gal and I am very excited. (However, I was never a scout and have no real idea how the program works. I am excited to take the classes but until then, my brain is already working toward ideas!) As an SU demo I have ton's of stamps and would like to use the stuff I already have to help the girls earn badges. Does anyone have any past projects to suggest? What did your Brownie's do and love doing? What badge will it help them work towards? Thanks for your help!
My daughters (now 18 and 21) were Brownies. Check the Try-It book (assuming there is still such a thing) and handbook for great ideas!
We made stamped and colored placemats for nursing homes for various seasons (you can talk about the types of trees the leaves come from), ornaments for their own families and senior centers, and cards for hurricane victims (that was Andrew waaaay back then), but you could adapt that to sending cards to the troops. I will check my brain archives and see if i can tap any other ideas...
I do have a Try It book, but I am so so new to this I am not really sure if you can come up with something outside of the book to use to count toward the badge or if you have to stick with the goodies in the book. I am supposed to meet with the troop leader this week so hopefully I can get more answers from her then.
I'm almost certain you can come up with your own, as long as it ties into the Try It. I was a leader. I am not now, but my daughter is still in it, she has her FIRST Juniors meeting tonight!! There's also a "design your own" Try It, too, where you could do a whole Try It on Stamping if you wanted!!!! And then you get to design the Try It, too!
My one warning would be- use just one color of ink. Or have adults watch carefully that they don't get muddled. I have taught my Cadettes to clean the stamps, but withBrownies I'm not so sure.
There used to be a Junior bddge -art to wear so they could stamp a scarf and you can get cheap silk ones on the net.
There must be a similar Try-it, but I haven't had a Brownie in 18 yrs.
The cards and placemats are a great service project.

I let my brownies use different colors, but emphasized "this color goes with this stamp!" We stamped invitations for ceremonies. I can't remember what specific try-its we used stamps for, but we did tons of crafts and almost any try-it can incorporate a craft!
I have been asked by my DD's Brownie and Junior leaders to do stamping with the girls as craft projects and service projects. The one project we did was for the local nursing home for Valentine's Day. Since the nursing home gets lots of visitors during Thanksgiving and Christmas time, we decided to go when nobody visits. So we made 150 valentines cards for the residents and delivered them and sang songs for them. The girls enjoyed stamping the cards (one color per stamp please!) and talking with the residents of the home. I think your options are unlimited with the girls because they will love stamping so much!
I'm a leader for a 2nd year Brownie troop, and last year I had them stamp their names on the circles we use for their kaper chart. We try to follow the Try-It book as closely as possible, because it is designed so the girls really are "trying" many different activities. I was never a girl scout, either, but have really enjoyed being a leader. Good luck!
