Has to do with the value of US $ vs Canadian, I guess.

I stole a peak at the new "in colors". They're different, but I LOVE the purple! I'm not much help otherwise. I was tempted to steal my demo's copy and mark it all up...but, that wouldn't have been too fair!

Good to know - I was wondering about that one. I understand Canadian prices have gone up by 10 % across the board. Sad. We already pay so much in Canada, and the shipping seems to take forever!

Actually the Canadian dollar is just 10 cents or less below the American dollar right now. And last year our dollar was above the US dollar for quite some time. I think think SU gives Canadians a bit of a bad deal.

Do they still use UPS to ship to Canada? I'm sure your orders leave Utah in the same amount of time as ours, but UPS takes more time to get there for some reason. I'm in Nevada and I've noticed that sometimes people in Virginia get their orders faster for some reason. It doesn't make sense. When they say 2 to 3 business days or 4 to 5 business days to ship, they are usually right on. Once shipped, my oders only take 2 days, one day for transit from Salt Lake City and one day for delivery from Sparks, Nevada. That's UPS though.

I am in the US and I wonder also how they get their conversions. Does the higher cost cover the customs fees though that SU has to pay?
Yes, I think Canadians get a raw deal with the pricing of SU stuff. I can actually pay less for the same punches that SU sells at a local craft store. I am not complaining, it actually makes it more fun to shop around and find a deal.

It probaably does have something to do with customs. I didn't think of that. Even if I can get something cheaper at my LCS, I buy through SU! because I'm a demo and it helps my sales, plus I get instant income, so the only thing I buy elsewhere is stuff I can't get through SU! I love the new catty, BTW!!!

I mean no disrespect to the demos. I love mine and try to support her as I can. Canadian pricing vs American pricing has always been a issue. It might well have something to due with customs. For example, books have always been more expensive in Canada. We were always told it was because our dollar was so low. When the dollar was at par with the US the prices never changed.
All I have ever said is show us where it is expensive maybe we could lobby our gov'.t. I think more often it is an excuse to charge more. I will admit though that gas might have something to do with it.
Sorry enough said from me. I can not wait for the new catty!

I totally agree!
I think we,from Canada, should pull together and write letters of complaint to SU! headquarters...it is just NOT FAIR....plain and simple!
Didn't they ,a couple years ago, had to revise OUR prices in the catty because they were a bit high???? I seem to remeber something like that...
btw Debz..where about in BC are U?? I am in the Fraser Valley...;)
Actually, the past 6 months, we have gotten the better deal. Our prices were only 15% higher than the US prices but our dollar was around the .75 mark for most of the time. Six months ago when the catty was being made I think it is difficult to judge that the US economy would tank so badly that our dollar would shoot up again.
Please, if you are upset by this, email SU! let them know. I know a couple of catties ago they gave us an insert to drop our prices. I would be happy to carry around a paper again.
It might have something to do with customs fees, also some of the products that are being sold are from China and Canada does not have free trade with China.
I found 2 sneak peaks and didn't have to look that far....
they are in the Stampin Up New Zealand catalog that is posted on the SU website.
If you browse through their catty you can see Build a Roo and Circle Circus.
I know that customs may play a part for things that aren't made in the US but anything made in the US we shouldn't be paying any duty for (NAFTA)- so I still question some of the pricing. Our economy in Canada is still not what it was this time last year so I find it difficult to justify buying things that have gone up over 10% (i.e. some punches).
From someone that has extensive experience in marketing and retail...this is a very foolish move- especially since buying craft supplies of any kind tend to be discretionary purchases...and discretionary income is dwindling.
I saw the new in-colors at the last workshop my demo held--I only liked 2 of them, the soft suede and the razzleberry (purplish). Oh, they will be just delicious when used together!!
Every time we get new In-Colors, I like the previous ones better, but they do grow on you! I've made a card with the Melon and WW. I've also made a CAS card just using the Curry for the sentiment and sponging a So Saffron flower with the Curry as well. I'm happy with the outcome. I know I like the Razzleberry and the Suede and the Bermuda Bay. The only one I'm not sure of is the Dusty Durango (orangish). I'm sure I'll like it better when I get a chance to use it...just like I did with the Tangerine Tango.

I agree with the sentiment that the longer you stamp the less exciting it is to have a new catalog. You think, how many flowers like this, or how many word stamps like that do I really need?
Also, I think it really stinks that they are not sharing the recipes in the back of the catalog. I don't care how much room they need for tools and goodies, we need the recipes. NEED!
Even though I am not burning with desire to get new things, I am always excited to see a new catalog and to get some inspiration and renew my stampin' mojo!

I'm pretty excited to have a catty for a year like it used to be. That saves me money! I like the idea of the 3 minis too. I do wish they'd bring back the recipes in the back, too! That was so handy. There's just a few stamps sets that I want to get but I've been into the dies lately. There's many new ones that I HAVE to get! LOL!

Totally agree with what you said. They need the recipes in the back. If I really like a card in the catty I will usually buy what I need to make that card. I justify what I buy in making that card several times.
There are some neat stamp sets in the NZ cattie! I may have to see if my cousin will get them for me (she lives in NZ!)!!! They are so expensive though, because of shipping!

I think if you want a recipe you just have to ask your Demo, they have access to them.

I agree with you. It has bothered me for some time the difference between CAD prices and US prices for the same thing. Thing is, to save money, I would shop US but US Demos aren't allowed to sell to us up here. Shouldn't the shopper get to decide where they want to shop? I see delightful project kits on US Demo Blogs sometimesn but they usually state US shoppers only or something like that.:(
Mrs. Boz, the recipes are on the demo site on the same page as the link to the catalog itself, in the Stampin Up Publications section.
It is frustrating when the distance between the US and Canada might only be a few miles, but nevertheless, it is still considered international trade. In order for SU to do business in Canada, it has to abide by the rules set forth by both countries. I think the fact that SU isn't a regular "store" as such but a direct sales company makes a difference in how it's allowed to operate, as well.
SU has come out in the past with general explanations regarding pricing, and I won't pretend to understand a lot of it. I do know that while dollar values play a major part, that isn't the only factor in pricing. There are fees imposed by Canada just for the privilege of doing business there, for one thing. For another, as has been stated above, not all products coming from SU originate in the US. Many products are made in China or elsewhere that incur additional duties, I believe.
Bottom line is murky, lol, but I do totally sympathize with Canadian customers and demos. It's frustrating to say the least! I wish there was an easier way to equalize prices...
I AM a demo, but I don't know where to find recipes for catty projects!
I believe that they are on the SU website under projects. Still, for me, I would like them in the back of the catty. Part of the enjoyment of the new catty was curling up for bedtime reading and being able to look at how a card was made. Usually, as I stated before if I liked a card I would look it up and find out if I had supplies for it or needed more (LOL at the more!) I then would justify my purchase by making the card several times over. I have often joked with myself "Yes it is cheaper to make your own cards" To have to sit at the computer and look through many cards to get to one description is just boring and a waste of time.
