So, I have only been stamping about a month (should've started earlier! ). My daughter and I are loving it! We are trying to build our collection slowly and I have already learned a lot from you about what I "need" to have. But I am still a bit confused!!! :?
Should I buy chalks first? chalk pads? water color pencils? Twinkling H2O's? Pearl ex? glitter? I love all the neat techniques and want to try them all.
Here's what I have so far
about 10 SU colored pads
1 spectrum pad
White pad
silver and gold metallic pads
2 Chalk Box petal collections
and about 10 stamp sets
assorted SU paper selections
Tool kit
embosser
Brads
eylets
ribbons
I plan on buying a little each payday. I only have until June and then we move to Korea (where I am not sure what kind of supplies I will have access to).
So what should I get first and second etc? Rank order the list. Help me spend my money!!!!
I vote for the varsamark pad and the pastels, that wayyou have all 48 colors and you can do neat stuff with the versamark pad also, embossing, popping pastels, watermarks, etc.

ooh, I'd definatley agree with the versamark and chalks first
next I'd say:
eyelets, and accessories that you may not be able to get (brads, embossing powder, heat tool)
then more stamps and ink.
then markers, and pearl ex
but that's just the order I'd go with given your time restraints.

Here's a document I found somewhere (here more than likely, forgive me, I don't have the name of the author  ). I've found it helpful for beginners! Hope it's helpful to you.
Another vote for the versa mark pad, you will always find a use for it.
I would also suggest the stampin spots. Then you have all the colors. Take adavantage of the March special to get some wonderfully versatile sets. Sincere Salutations and Shapes and Shadows will cover lots of different cards that you may need to make.
Stock up on paper and envelopes, as well as brads, buttons, eyelets, and the ribbon. Once you use the SU paper, others just wont do. And the envelopes are very nice quality, and you never know what you might not be able to find once you are over seas.
If you have a nice demo, you can still purchase things once you are there. You send her your order and pay her for it, and she gets it shipped to her house, then she can ship it to you. If she marks it as a gift, you probably wont have to pay customs or import duties on it.
The aqua painters you will find very useful, espically with the watercolor pencils. And invest in a good quality paper cutter. They might be expensive, but will be well worth it. Trust me. I have purchased 4 horriable cutters, totaling more than what it cost me when I finally broke down and purchased my CARL cutter. I love it! And promptly tossed the 4 junk ones!
IMHO, if you are getting the chalks and spots (highly recommend those!), then I would get the blender pens. Those can act like the markers. I'm a demo and still don't have the markers because I haven't found a definite need for them - *for me*. I use the blenders, spots (or pads), and chalks, and I'm set.

I've been overseas for just over a year. Here's my advice:
If you will have an APO....then don't worry too much about it. You can still keep buying stuff from your demo and have it shipped to your APO, no problem. You might want to wait until you can spend enough to get a workshop then you get the freebies.
No APO but you have someone who will ship stuff to you....buy the heavy stuff (CS, Stamps, Punches, Ink Pads, etc.). Eyelets, buttons, brads, fibers, ribbon, pens, etc. are all very light to ship.
No one to ship to you? Get what you love. I agree with the Versamark, refill and chalks.
Thanks Ladies! I will have an APO. But I think I will go through withdrawl of the ability to get anything I need very quickly in Korea. I have a Michaels H/L and Target all within 5 minutes right now.
All the things mentioned are great. One thing not mentioned are the rubber cutting scissors. They are really great! I put off getting them for a long time, and now I love them.

If you are buying the spots, I would suggest buying the reinkers as well. TheVersamark reiker is awesome-I find myself going through so much VM that the reinker is invaluable to me.

I got the watercolor pencils & blender pens. I loved them. I have since been able to get all the markers.
The versamarker is a must.
I got my cutter at Michael's, a big one, that you can get extra blades for. This is a must.
When I first started I bought stamps I thought were so cute (they were), but I realized I could do just a few things with them. I would suggest a nice alphabet & some phrases also. Then you can do all occasion cards.
The scissors are great also. I have put off getting them, but am going to order them this week. Used my demo's & they are the best.
