Smile new stamper for dummies question

I just recently got into stamping and boy is it addictive!!! I look through all these cards on the gallery and I'm amazed!! My question is how do you get the different colors on the stamp when you stamp the image?? Are you using markers and coloring in the areas that you want or somehow use the ink pads?? I can see that there's alot to learn and this looks like the right place to do it!! Awesome cards to see!! Thanks for help!!

Welcome to Stamping!!!

To get different colors on the same stamp, you can use the brush markers and color directly on the rubber. Right before you stamp, you huff on the rubber (to remoisten the stamp) and then stamp. Voila - different colors.

You can also stamp your image with one of the Kaleidacolor/Spectrum pads which have several ink colors in them.

You can also use ink pads... for example, if you have a flower stamp, and you want the petal part to be pink, and the stem/leaf to be green, you just use the very corner of your ink pad, and ink only the petal part pink, and the stem part green. It takes a little "peeking" (you have to hold the inkpad up instead of laying it on the table so you can see) and practice, but is really easy once you do it a time or two!

Have fun with it!!!

Not all brush markers are created equal. I tried to use some no-name brush markers to colour the rubber of my stamp with, and even after huffing on it the ink had dried so quickly it wouldn't stamp.

Any washable markers work. As much as I like the SU markers, we always have such an abundance of markers that come home at the end of the school year, that are in good condition, but DH wants new ones for fall. (Hey she's an only child/grandchild and is spoiled by many, so there always seem to be new markers coming our way) Besides, that way I use them til they go dry and am not tossing good markers out.

Thanks ohsuzanna for that. I never knew that the washable markers would work. I keep meaning to get some stampin markers at the craft store or from Stampin Up and there is always something else that I want so it gets put off. Now at least I know I can just use the ones that are home.

Thanks so much

Gee this is some place to come. I have learned so much from this site.

Thanks ladies!

You can also use the spots (or ink pads) with a Blender pen. Tap the spots on an old CD and use the blender pen to pick up the color and then use it on your stamps. I love this technique
