Say that like Chandler's old girlfriend on "Friends"!!!
Do you know what I just realized?? Never thought of before???
I can run scraps of paper through my Xyron machine and make them sticky for putting on cards! All this time I've been trimming my double-sided tape (my current choice of adhesive) down to fit these little boogers, and there, right next to me, is that silly old Xyron sticker maker I bought at Walmart for a mere $5! I've not made many cards with scraps for they would always fall off or it took to long to put tape on so it wouldn't show!!!
Now, if only I could figure out what kind of refill this Xyron takes!!!
Emilysuesue--I have done this before. I have the littlest one. It works GREAT. I got tired of getting more glue on me, the table, my leg, anything else not moving instead of the strip. It is great to use up those little slivers of paper not more than 1/4" wide. Looks great too.
Dumb question here. I have on of the big xyron machines and all i have ever used it for is laminating things. Is there a refill that just puts some sticky on the back? Can it be used for anything else? I read about people using it all the time, I never knew what for!
You can buy refills for lamination, temp or permanent adhesive. I can find them at Michael's sometimes and my local scrapbook store all the time.
I places a complete layer of adhesive on the back so that whatever you send through is now a sticker. If you send it through on each side you have sticky back and sticky front. Can stick glitter, sand etc to front and then stick right to paper.
I am pretty sure the $40 is a big one that will take larger items. They come in different sizes. The cheaper one is only large enough for a die cut letter (or so) to fit through. I use mine mostly to attach die cut letters. Getting glue on those little suckers is tricky.
My $5 one from Walmart is a sticker maker, aimed at children. I got it after Christmas in the clearance aisle. It makes stickers up to 2 1/2" wide. It came with no instructions on replacing the cartridge, which SURELY must be near empty by now.
It's 2 tone blue and has a handle on the side that I turn to run the paper through.
I have been wondering about those machines...I absolutely HATE stickers in scrapbooks and on cards so I have not really spent much time really considering one. What else can they be used for?

I have both the littlest zyron that puts adhesive on the back of scraps up to 1.5 (?) inches in width and the zyron 850, which fits full 8.5 x 11 sheets of paper. I absolutely love them both!
I purchased my little zyron for $10 at a stamp craft show. It was aimed for children because it had some children's projects with it. I have since bought refills of the small adhesive. It's a great tool to have handy for those little glue jobs - for example - lettering!
Zyron has a newer model, 900 instad of 850 that is actually easier to change between adhesives - laminates, magnets etc. I have not bought it because it does basically the same thing. It is a real pain to change out the adhesives, so I might break down and buy it one day!
The little Xyron machine I use to do this is in the form of an "X". It is orange colored and is really small. I can get refills next to the machines at my local Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby. Be sure to get the "permenent" and not "repositionable" refills though!!! It works great for little things!! Or even using this size machine to adhere the small Sizzix Sizzlits letters to my scrapbooks!! YEAH!!!
 I just had to jump in here and let everyone know that a xyron is a must for Vellum! If you need to adhere vellum with adhesive instead of brads or eyelets, the xyron adhesive does not show. Also, you can put adhesive on both sides. For example, one side of adhesive if for attaching it to a card or page, the other, you can sprinkle glitter or sand to!
Oh! My! Gosh! I have the little Xyron too and I never thought to use it this way. I too spent considerable time trying to get tape onto small scraps. Well no more. Now that little X machine is coming out of my scrapbook supplies and going into my stamping supplies. Thanks for the tip!
The big dusty lightbulb in my head just went off! I have one of those little guys, too!!! Scraps! Vellum! Oh boy!!! I can't wait to get the kids involved in something so I can go play!!!! Thank you so much ladies for these great ideas!
Now you guys got me all pumped to purchase one. The question is what do you all have and what do you recommend. I mainly do stamping but am getting started into scrapbooking and could see the benfits of getting one of these. The question is which one?
Emilysuesue,
I've never heard of a 2 1/2" xyron sticker maker - I want it! I have 3 Xyrons now -
-the big 850 that takes a full sheet of paper (and can use any of the variety of cartridges) - it's awesome, but expensive.
-the 500 model that takes paper up to 5". Do not get this model; it is not made well. The wheel on the side doesn't work most of the time and I have to pull the project through, often times crumpling it. The newer 5" models are no doubt better; they also accomodate different cartridges, the one I have just does adhesive.
- the Sticker Maker that takes paper up to 1 1/2" wide. This is very handy and I use it lots, but given the choice I would opt for a 2 1/2" model because it would be more versitale.
Off to the store to look for another Xyron!

I'd like to upgrade my 850, as they no longer make it, but continue to make the refills, to the improved 900. Looks like it would take up less storage space and be easier to transport, not to mention it's a lot easier to swap out the cartridges/refill, etc.
I plan to add the 250 (2.5" model, actually designed for kids!). I don't use my 500 as much--the 510 was a marvelous improvement, so I don't recommend investing in the 500 at all if you happen across one?
They are a GREAT tool for applying adhesive and laminating!

I'm torn between the 250 and the 510. The 250 does 2 1/2" stickers only which should cover most sticker and small projects. The 510 does 5" stickers, laminates, and magnets. Opinions needed and welcomed!!!
I have the 510 and love it! My most recent ambition has been converting my business cards to magnets to give to my hostesses. It's nice to have the option of laminating or sticker-making all with the same machine. I don't know where I'd put a machine for each thing!
Great idea for our business cards! My customers are going to get my magnet business card with their new catalogs so every time their preparing their meals they will remember to make another order ! That made up my mind, I think the 510 is a little more versatile. Looks like I can get a great price at www.wilde-ideas.com
