I am on the verge (insert deep breath) of unmounting all of my SU! stamps and misc. wood mounted stamps. I just need someone to push me over the edge.
I am confused as to what to do once I have taken the rubber and gray foam from the wood (I want to keep the gray foam attached to the rubber).
I have several rubber and foam stamps that I've purchased and they cling to the blocks...will mine do the same?
Will the foam simply cling to my acrylic blocks? Do I need some sort of adhesive (I've heard many talk about Aileen's Tack it Over and Over and Mono/Tombow)?
Any help is appreciated. If I can figure out this hurdle, I might just be able to get started.
The grey foam that is on your mounted stamps is a little different than the grey cling foam on your mounted stamps in that there is actual sticky adhesive on the mounted ones. I know people who have taken their stamps off the wood and been able to use them with acrylic blocks directly BUT it can leave residue on your blocks and they can get pretty well stuck on whatever you store them on.
I choose to use a layer of Tack-It-Over-And-Over on top of the sticky adhesive. On new SU! stamps that have never been mounted (but are meant for wood mounting), I stick the clear index sticker on the sticky side of the foam before applying the TIO&O - just because I like the look of it.
After the TIO&O dries, I stick the stamp to my forearm or jeans or something like that, to kind of deactivate the grip of them. TIO&O is a repositionable glue, but I noticed that if I didn't unstick the glue a bit, some stamps that were on their storage boards for a while were a little hard to remove.
That was very helpful! Where can one find Aileen's? I've seen other Aileen adhesives/glues at Wal-Mart and Hobby Lobby, but I've never seen the Tack it Over and Over.
Also, when the Tack it Over and Over is dry, does it feel gummy/sticky or is a more of a clingy stick to the acrylic block?
I don't think that I have seen Aleene's TIO&O at walmart, just at joann's or michael's, but it's initially designed for fabric, so possibly at any fabric store (at Joann's & m's it is in the glue area, not the papercraft area) I would think that Hobby Lobby would have it too
it does feel a little gummy/ sticky rather than static-cling like the cling stamps
just remember THIN coat of glue on the stamp ;)
I have stamps that I put the TIO&O on over 2 years ago and they're still sticking to my block perfectly. If they do get lint (or in my case pet hair) or dust, you can rinse them under warm water and that will bring back the tackiness to the glue.
If you can't find the Aileen's glue, Tombo Mono Multi in the white bottle with green caps works just as well. I was experimenting one day when I couldn't find my TIO&O after a reorganization project.
Ive uncounted my stamps and used the tacky glue bit its too tacky. I can't get it off the block without the label coming off. I tried using a cloth to make it less sticky but that's not working either ??? Help. TIA.
I went the unmounted route 3 or 4 years ago...I didn't try to save the foam the rubber was on....I popped stamps into the freezer,,then just pulled the rubber off. When I had a large enough group of bare rubber to make it worthwhile I would heat up my cutting iron and adhere the rubber to new foam and then cut around it with the heat tool. I don't have any problems with foam not sticking to acrylic blocks. I do miss the stickers on the stamps but you can't pull them off the blocks as easily and many stamps the images are stamped onto the wood only. I was able to do lots of consolidating by unmounting and I love the fact that all my feather sets, or wolf sets or bear sets now fit in one storage device and I can just lable it bears, or wolves or so forth. Finding that special wolf or bear is lots easier too.

I used the Aleene's TIO&O with my earlier ones. I'm liking the tombow multi (green cap) better. I removed the rubber and foam from mine, except for the ones I found it impossible to get the foam off from. I did find that I could use my ATG gun tape on the back of the bare rubber stamps and use that to adhere the stamp to my Misti, and when I was done, all I had to do was rub my finger over the Misti and back of the stamp, and the tape rolls right off.
Love the tip about putting the stamps in the freezer to remove the foam etc.. I'll have to try that.

I also unmounted about 90% of my wood mounted stamps several years ago and have never regretted it. I went down to the bare rubber with all I could.
Originally I used Aleene's TIO&O but found it did not really hold up well over the years. Like Hoptownracer mentioned, I often use double-sided tape to temporarily attach the rubber to my acrylic block or Misti and then clean it right off. I've even done that with glue stick, too. Super easy!

Tack N Peel can be added to different sized acrylic blocks. Your red rubber stamps without foam stick to this so you can stamp. I use this on my blocks and the red rubber sticks well to it. I stamp on a mouse pad or something similar. This is more cost effective since you're only covering several acrylic blocks with the product. It takes no time at all.

Tack N Peel also works well in a dedicated MISTI. I did this with my original MISTI after I upgraded to a newer version. I now have one for naked rubber/photopolymer and one for rubber with foam. I don’t have to constantly change the set up in my MISTI. I just grab the MISTI I need for any given style of stamp.

I was hesitant because I loved just picking up a stamp and using it, but I was shocked by the amount of room it created. I have a lot of them binders. Now I need to go back and add the tacky it over and over glue or something like it.
I don't, and won't, unmount my wood mounted stamps as I love having them on blocks. I have a great storage cabinet my DH built, and if that is so full that I can't fit more in, but want new stamps, I purge, as I don't need anymore stamps than will fit in my storage. I tend to become a stamp collector instead of a stamp user if I have more than will fit and many stamps sit unused. So those have to go, if I want more. That being said, I also carve my own stamps and mount those that come unmounted on wood blocks, so some of my friends that unmount give me their wood blocks. Some come with the foam still attached, so in order to remove that, I put it in the microwave for 25 seconds and it usually softens the adhesive enough to get it off the block. You might want to try that for removing your stamps to keep the foam in tact. I have also fount the Label/Sticker remover to help a great deal:
Stampin Up sells adhesive made just for this..It's called "Cling Adhesive". It's cling on one side, and sticky on the other. I've used it on quite a few of unmounted stamps and like it better than Alene's

Thank you so much Golfnsew for sharing about the adhesive cling! I bought some, and I LOVE it!!! It is a real game changer for me! I am glad I watched videos on youtube on how to apply it though, because I probably would have done it wrong otherwise.
I'm so glad it helped you. I also watched a video before using! It's certainly easy to use, but not "apparent" how to use. My SU person had not used it herself
I would love to unmount my wooden stamps. Unfortunately, we moved recently and the box with all my wood-mounted rubber stamps somehow walked away. I have one box to unpack and I know it holds my oversize pictures to hang on the walls, so it looks like I'm out of luck. I've had some of them for over 30 years, so I know I won't be able to, and can't really afford to, replace them. I'm really upset!

Oh, I'm so sad for you! Can you get in contact with the movers? They should be responsible for loosing such treasures. I think I value my stamps---especially some of the older, irreplaceable ones---more than my jewelry! Maybe they could run a search. We had a list of each box, given to us by the movers that we had to sign off on before they left. You can be sure I checked it. We ended up with something that wasn't ours--- a huge (and I mean 8" diameter roll of wrapping paper). Since I knew ours was the only stuff on the load, it must have been left over from someone else. we couldn't find a sticker on it, so there was no way to track it, but if there had been, we could have gotten it to others. I told them to let us know if someone inquired about it, but no one ever did. I will die before I use up all this red with white polka dots paper! We have even been wrapping huge Christmas gifts with it---a barn door, a router, a solar panel---still have lots left after giving some away and using some for cards. Every time I use it I think of the person who is missing it, but not nearly as much as I bet you are missing you stamps. my heart goes out to you.
Tracy, that makes me so sad for you! How very frustrating. I hope you won't give up stamping completely, though. Even if your collection will never be quite the same.

were your movers military movers? If so you can claim a lost box by using inventory sheets. Is the stamp box listed on the inventory sheets. With all the moves we did with military movers we did not have anything lost...BUT they seem to mix stuff up in boxes. So my suggestion would be to go through every single box as stamps may be mixed in other boxes. I packed all my stamping supplies and movers just put my plastic containers in their moving boxes. I did find kitchen items-cookware mixed into other boxes. I could not find my dogs big sleeping blanket, until I got pregnant for the second time and opened maternity clothes box. That is were the movers packed the dog blanket. Not with bedding but with maternity clothes. Go figure.

I packed all my stamping supplies and movers just put my plastic containers in their moving boxes. I did find kitchen items-cookware mixed into other boxes. I could not find my dogs big sleeping blanket, until I got pregnant for the second time and opened maternity clothes box. That is were the movers packed the dog blanket. Not with bedding but with maternity clothes. Go figure.
When we emigrated 20+ years ago, I moved to our new home country first, leaving DH to pack the house up with the movers, who put all the packed boxes into a container for shipment. I made sure to pack my craft supplies before I left, and those came across OK. But the weirdest thing I found when unpacking was a box containing several empty biscuit tins which had been stored on top of the fridge/freezer in our old kitchen in case they came in useful 'one day'. I mean, who exports empty biscuit tins to the other side of the world??
The funniest part when we moved into our new house was when the movers took one wrapped item off the truck and complained about its weight, I checked its number on the inventory and, without thinking said, 'oh, that's my stamp collection'. They guy gave me a very odd look as he wheeled my carefully packed rubber stamp cabinet away on his trolley. Belatedly I realised he must be thinking postage stamps. lol.

There has been a lot of horror stories regard military packers. No matter if there are US or over seas.
First is packing food. We were in New Jersey PCSing to Rota Spain. We were told packers would no pack dry food. So not wanting to take a big hit we packaged up my spice and herb cabinet and mailed it to our new address. Being a cook that lost would have been a lot. Also we had our friends come over and take any dry or can food they wanted. We were left with all open package of crackers, chips and so on. So when packers left I went into kitchen to clear it out. Well guess what, they packed all left over open food! I could not believe it!!
Biggest horror story is packers packing up the kitchen trash. Yep, can you just envision opening up that box. especially if it was boxed up and transported on a military ship over seas. We were lucky with word of mouth to not even have any trash in house when packers entered the house.
