I want to organize all my little embellishments, such as brads, eyelets, buttons etc, but need some suggestions on what works for everyone. I like the tin containers with clear lids, but do not know where to buy. I do not want to do the ebay thing. Any help out there? I am desperate to organize!!!
I use one of the little cabinets for screws, you can get them at Home Depot. They have little drawers in them, works great for me, hold lots of little things and it comes in different sizes
I went to Walmart and bought a plastic container that has 24 mini shaker containers that have flip tops. I just love it! You can store alot in a small area. The size is approximately 5"d x 8"w x 2"h. I found it in the craft area.

I found a 7 day pill reminder at a dollar store. It is 7 clear circular containers that all screw together to make a tube looking thing...similar size to a paper towel tube when assembled (If that makes sense) You could even buy more than one and then screw 12 together for the different color groups. For a dollar you can't beat it!!!

Hi,
I really like the little containers from stampin' up, you can even buy them empty in a little black holder that mounts to the wall. It holds 6 I think or 12 of the smaller ones (but I think it comes with the 6 bigger ones. It's nice too cuz you can buy your eyelets etc. from stampin up and get the containers free and then just buy the black holder thing too. Hope that makes sense.
Here is a link to the clear topped metal containers i think you were referring to. I have ordered several here and this company is fast with their shipping!!!
Michael's sells those metal containers with clear lids...they are by Provo Craft and are in the section with the Making Memories eyelets stuff. You can buy them as a set of 4 to 6 containers(they come in 4 different sizes) and you can also buy them as a set enclosed in a metal box...actually, my Mike's in Canada had the ones in the metal box on clearance.
I am going to buy magnets and attach them to the back of the containers(they are aluminum and won't stick) and put a one of those metallic bulletin boards on my peg board and voila...got me some organized embellishments.
Hope this idea works for you.

Jeannie - what a super COOL idea! I actually traded my metal tins for some plastic compartment boxes (ArtBins - LOVE them), but it's a really neat idea!

OK, so when you purchase the eylets, etc., they give you the container for free? I wouldn't have to order containers seperately? This is new to me, so please clarify.
I just bought a cropper hopper embelllishment case, with small boxes that are for embellishements, these were sold separatly and you can lable them If you check out their site you can see pictures of them. They hold tonnes of stuff and your tools.

The containers that the eyelets, buttons & beads come in fit into the Stampin' Stack holder. The holder has 6 slots, which will hold 6 large containers or 12 small containers, or a combination.
You can purchase the complete set, which is the holder, 4 large & 4 small containers. It comes with 2 screws for wall-mounting (slides on & off if you want to take it with you) or double-sided foam tape for permanent mounting.
($8.95 for whole set)
You can also buy additional containers in packs of 6 for either size ($3.95). And of course, you can buy the holder with no containers ($5.95).

I use the floss organizers they sell in the sewing department of Michael's and Joann's. It's all clear and there are 17 compartments. They sell for $3.99. I just bought another one at Joann's when they had 40% off plastic storage containers.
I even decorated one and use it as my jewelry box.

I use the metal tins with the glass tops. I have about 100 of them if not more, all different sizes. I use them for my beads (make jewelry) so I figured they would be great for eyelets, etc.
I got mine for that auction site......;)

And the buttons come in the large containers, the eyelets come in the large containers, the brads come in the small containers. If the eyelets or brads are an assortment, they come in a large container with four sections. The 4-section container is not available empty.
Thanks Belinda! I didn't think about mentioning that. I personally love these. I have 4 full ones at the moment. I had bought my eyelets when they came in the old stacks, so I purchased the small containers & gave each color its own. I can see exactly what I have & know right where to look, since I have them "rainbowed".
I found at Home Depot an orange carry case with 4 pull out containers in it to hold screws and nuts ect. It is made by Black and Decker. It was about $12.00 Can. I have 4 of them and I love them. The best thing about them is that they have a handle so that if you are going to a crop or some thing you can take them with you. The other thing is that the have little holes in the back so that you can hang them to the wall. I love them, each container is labeled so that I don't have to search I put the container and find the thing that I need inside one of the little segments.
I just bought a thing today from Michael's for my embellishments (so far just ribbon, metal framed tags, and lots of brads). It's by Generations, black canvas bag, with a zipper, and 6 containers inside with flip-top lids, the containers are sectioned into 2 each. All my brads fit except big alphabet ones I have, they're in a Ziploc bag inside the pouch, and so are my tags and ribbon.
I buy containers in the fishing dept at Walmart. I like this one kind that looks like floss containers except for it latches (helpful for slowing down a toddler and keeping it all in place when my cats knock it over). I also like it that it allows me to make the stoage parts inside different sizes. Take a look there.
I use an embroidery floss container from AC Moore. It has lots of little dividers. I have my buttons sorted by color. Much easier to find matching pairs. They are usually $1.99 or so.
I keep my eyelets in a plastic container from Making Memories that I found at our local Paper Zone. It has 18 sections. I don't remember what it cost because I've had it for a couple years now. I hope I can find another one because I'll probably have more than 18 colors of eyelets soon.
My other embellishments such as tags and so forth I put in ziplock bags. I really need to find something to organize my ribbon, our Target doesn't have the ribbon organizer I've seen here.
Has anyone organized their embellishments by color family? I was thinking about this and wondered if it would allow me to find what I need quicker. I was thinking of getting 5 of the small sized Rubbermaid Show Offs. You know the clear ones with a blue snap on lid and a handle? Then inside put my spools of ribbon, ribbon scraps and loose ribbon from swaps, then depending on how big that tic tac box (haven't seen it yet) is from Walmart put one in each for the various colors and shapes of eyelets.
What do you think? So... all of my colored embellishments and ribbon would go in the 4 families, plus anything else (white, black, metal) would go in a neutral box. Black should be a neutral, not an EE. I could even put my pre-cut tags with their color families

organizing embellishments
HI, I have a black canvas bag from Michaels...it has one plastic divided box that I put eyelets in and when you unzip the bag the inside has three velvet backed flaps with different sized clear plastic velcro closure pockets that I have metal letters, words and such in: another large flap with two zipper areas that I havewire and things in then an open flap where I have tools..then on the outside backis another zipper mesh area... I used 40 % off and paid 12.00 I think very usable and easy to take places if I want. but easy to store too. jusy one of those "finds" when I truly did not need anything

I even put my hemp in the large containers!
Don't forget that the beads come in these containers as well!
I've purchased several of these little storage thingies. They are great!!
For my brads and eyelets, I found a clear plastic box which contains 24 Tic-tac-like boxes, with a flip-up top. Very useful. (Wal-Mart, craft aisle)
As for the rest of my ever-growing embellishment collection, I bought a Plano fishing gear organizer. I wish I'd found out about this sooner!! I fit all of my everyday scrapping tools in the top compartment (scissors, glue dots, adhesive tabs, glue stick, etc.) and I've organized my ribbons, metal-rimmed tags and everything else in the separate plastic organizers underneath. I like the fact that everything pulls out individually so you don't have to pile and unpile everything, which was my problem when everything was fitted tightly into one big box. I think some people have shared pictures of their Plano boxes, so maybe you can find some visuals in the gallery. (Once again, another Walmart find. Check out the fishing gear aisle, they have all kinds of small boxes with compartments if you want something smaller for your brads and eyelets only.)
I, too, use the tic-tac containers for eyelets. I also use the floss organizers (the kind with the latches) for other embellishments--buttons, mini clothespins, etc. I'm in the process of reorganizing, though, and I love all the insight you ladies have on how to organize. I'll get this done soon, I hope!
I have a couple of boxes that I think are meant for beaders at M's. They look similar to the floss boxes but the have a locking mechanism. You have to push this lever in to get any of the compartments to open. Helps with spillage.
Maybe I just have too many, but I use a fishing tackle box!!!! It works great! I can put bigger things in the bottom & smaller things fit great in the adjustable sides that lures & things usually fit in. I got one that has two pull open sides for lures. I think it was about $29.99 at Meijers. I love it because I can take it with me very easily when I go some place to scrapbook.

I use a fishing tacle box by Plano that I got at Wal-mart. It's 2-sided & hold tons of stuff. Ribbons, scissors, buttons, brads--everything I got pretty much.
I have the craftmates bag that you can get at Michaels. it comes with 5 containers to hold all those little doodads! It's about $17 with the coupon! It works great!

I get all of my organization ideas/bins at The Container Store. If you have not been there you must go. The items are a little more epensive but well worth it in my opinion!
