That sucks. My paper cutter frays the edges after a bit of use. It's so frustrating because I have to sand down the paper, which will cause DSP to not look as pretty.

I'm considering buying one of those big paper cutters with the arm; I used to use one where I worked and the paper was crisp, clean, and straight everytime.

I used the Crafter's Companion Paper Cutter. And I love it. I haven't had any problems with them.

I have the large one and two of the small ones. I purchased (The big & small one together.) (that was the deal)

I have an extra one. That I am selling here on SCS. If you're interested?

Is it a rotary blade?

I've almost exclusively used Fiskars cutters, I just bought a new one at Joanns for $18...it was $30, I can't remember what it's called, but it's got a swing-out arm that measures out to 15 inches, and has markings on it for several sizes of cards, very sturdy and has rubber feet for non skid. The only thing I liked better was the CraftLite cutter from As Seen on TV, but those blades are impossible to replace. Cutterpede makes a good mini and regular size cutter too. I always think of the giant guilliotine cutters in junior high that could cut your hand off...LOL

I've been using a guillotine paper cutter that I bought at Staples or Office Max that is 12 inch square. Have been using it for quite a few years with no problem.

The absolute best paper cutter on the market is the Genesis (with edgelight). It is well worth the price. Perfectly straight clean cute every time!

Where do you buy the Genesis? Is it a craft company or an office supply co? I am in need of a new paper cutter and have also been thinking about getting one at one of the office supply places. I don't mind paying a good price for quality. I have gone through several paper cutters and none of them seem to hold up very long.

I swear by my Making Memories cutter. It is a rotary cutter with self-sharpening blade. I haven't had any problems with it at all and I've been using it for about 2 years now. It cuts straight with nice clean cuts like the day it was new. The only irritant is that because the blade housing slides along a metal rod, it will start to squeal sometimes. I just sprayed a lubricant (like WD40) onto a tissue and rubbed the metal bar and it stopped squealing. Hasn't squealed in about 6-8 months now. You can get them at Michaels so you can use a coupon to purchase them.

Hi Nancy!
I haven't traded with you for a long time.
Does Does this score? I don't know what it means by accentuate. Does the one you have for sale cut 12 x 12 inch paper?

My fiskars one is okay, but it almost always cuts crooked, but I'd rather straighten the edges than have to find another tool to score.

I've had the same purple Fiskars trimmer ever since I started scrapbooking/stamping (9 years ago), and it's still going strong. The cuts are straight and smooth.

I've noticed that my Tonic has a rough spot. If I don't carefully "pull in" the arm, I get a frayed edge. If I pull in too much, it makes a horrible sound and won't cut at all. I've had this cutter for a while, and I thought it was supposed to be self sharpening? Maybe I've just used it to death.

Funny you say that Jen...I just started having the same problem with my tonic! It's about 2 years old. I love it and have never had any problem. But now I sometimes get that "fray" end if I don't pull it in just enough. Maybe it's time to replace it. I'd still get the tonic though.

Hmmm, mine is just about the same age, I think. I do think it's a great cutter, and it's more convenient than my Carl. Maybe I'll give myself a new one for Christmas.

that Genesis looks AMAZING but then it should be for the price. Sadly with being out of work and nothing looking promising that is not in my budget at all. But perhaps one day. Or I need to find one of the ones the elementary school has---it is a big scary arm one but such a great cutter.

Hehe yes, for the price of the Genesis, I should be able to lay a paper there and say, "Cut this 4 inches by 6 inches" and it goes to town. ;)

I need one of those "goin' to town" cutters... LOL
Thanks for all your input folks! Wish I could try some of these machines before I buy...

I am happy with what I have and have received a RAK or two from some kind folks, but it does bother me that I am limited with what I have and what I can do with it. I suppose we have to do the best we can with what we have.

As I said before, I've really stuck with Fiskars cutters. You just need to make sure you have extra blades around. Try checking out Tuesday Morning if you are near one, I got a cutter there for $7, and they have other things like that from time to time.
