I am currently unmounting my SU stamps, quite a job! I just heard about something called Grafix and I was wondering how to use it on my stamps once I remove them from the wood blocks. I would so appreciate it if someone could please tell me how this works.
Grafix Clear Cling Vinyl is sheets of the clear cling without any foam. It is perfect for mounting stamps already with the foam like your SU stamps when they arrive. Saves LOTS of money because it runs less than $1 a huge sheet and saves time! You trim your SU stamps with the paper on the foam. Then peel off the paper and lay it directly on the vinyl sheet and then pull of the backing paper. You end up with something identical to the EZ mount at much savings. I use EZ mount only for the bare rubber stamps I buy or for those stamps that when heated come off without the glue.

Where do you purchase the Grafix?

I buy mine at www.wildeideas.com but you can go to the Grafix site and they have a store and online store locator. I use Wilde Ideas because they have cheap shipping, good prices, I can order EZ mount at the same time, and they have LOTS of great products.
mamakimberly, that is an excellent price. I pay $6.99 for 6 sheets most of the time. You are going to be totally blown away by how far one package will go! Our Mike's does not carry it :(
they have it at michael's for 7.99 for 9 sheets, just FYI
I got a pack and it works great!
Have you unmounted all your SU? I've been wanting to do this because I live near Houston and during last years' hurricane evacuations, I had to leave behind my stamps. I hated that!! I figured if I unmount them, I could at least have room for my favorites during an evacuation. But....the downside is, if you ever want to sell any on Ebay etc., the don't sell as well. So, I think that I am going to only unmount the ones I love and always come back to. What are your thoughts on unmounting stamps? Thanks MamaK!

Ok, I am really lost. Why would you want to unmount them? I have never heard of anyone doing that before. I am just curious. I did hear though to unmount them an easy way of doing that is to heat them in the microwave first. I am not sure for how long but I heard it does work. Just an idea. Please do fill me in on why you would do this. Thanks, Angela
I'm only unmounting sets that I don't want to sell at any point. It is soooooo wonderful and I love it. I have saved soooooo much space.... I am loving having all of my sets so accessible!

To answer the question--why unmount?
1-They take up about 10 percent of the space they do when on wood.
2-They are SO much more accessible. No longer digging through drawers.
3-EASY to carry many with you when you stamp on the go.
4-Much easier to clean as you don't have to worry about inky wood.
5-Takes up MUCH less work area and are so much easier to put away.
6-Purchasing UM's is about 50-90% cheaper in general.
7-Rubber does not deteriorate but wood does.
8-If you have to move, it is a breeze!
9- MOST importantly, I love the clear blocks and get a much better result when it comes to positioning things. I actually have thrown away my positioner tool.
I don't worry about selling because I keep every block. I put them in boxes and put them in the attic. Actually, I sell very few of my stamps. They are not in the least hard to remount if you change your mind or want to sell.
Hmm, so how do you use them to stamp with if the wood block is not on there to hold onto? How do you store them? Do you keep them all in one box or still keep them seperate like they come in the plastic containers? This is really fasinating to me because I just have to know how this works. Thanks to both of you who replied to my question already. Sorry if I seem a little slow. It is late. Thanks again, Angela

Thanks for the encouragement! I never thought about keeping the wood just in case; they wouldn't hurt anything up in the attic! I think I am going to do it!!!

Angela, Alot of people store their unmounted stamps in CD cases. I think that is what I would do.

You use acrylic blocks (called handles) for this. You really only need a set of 4 or 5 in different sizes. Because they have cling vinyl on the bottom they stick to the block just like clingies you buy in the store stick to a window. When you are done you clean, peel them off and restick them in the CD case (some people buy special notebook pages and stick those to them, but I find that too expensive and bulky for my taste).
I store mine in CD jewel cases with a category down the spine with a self-stick label. For example on each I have a label with the main category and sometimes subcategories like winter/snowflakes or words/thanks. This depends on how many stamps you have and how much you want to break them down. I sometimes label them with 3 identifiers such as Flowers/Roses/2 step stamping or Flowers/SU Terrific Tulips.
I have been known to pop 3-4 CD cases in my purse along with a couple of pads in a ziplock and stamp in the doctor's office! You can carry the travel baby wipes to clean them.
When you take the rubber off the wood, and say there isn't enough sticky left for the cling, how long do you heat in the microwave to get the cushion off so that you can EZ mount it? I bought some of that too on Wilde-Ideas today.

I do 2-3 medium stamps at time for 15 seconds a shot. If there is NOT enough glue then use EZ mount. If there is enough glue use Grafix to save lots of money. The other thread on UM's has a great site, cheapest I have seen for these products! Check it out!
